Some of you may know that my sister in law (and best friend since 5th grade) had a scheduled c-section yesterday. She gave birth to a healthy 9 lb. 14 oz. baby boy.
She lost a lot of blood during the surgery and has been having issues with her blood pressure, etc. Yesterday we went to see her and she didn't look good and was resting with oxygen in her nose.
This morning she called me panicking because her hemogloben (sp?) was at critical level of 6. They had just taken her blood again and were talking about a blood transfusion/infusion.
I managed to calm her down and we talked about the baby. He is doing GREAT. Great eater, in great health, etc.
So I talked to her a little later and they had taken more blood and her level this afternoon is now lower than 6 so she needs to get the blood today.
Please send prayers and healing thoughts for her and her new family your way. She has a 2 yr old son and husband that are home waiting for her to get there.

Thanks Vick. I just got off the phone with her husband and he said it was just "really wierd watching bags of blood go into her that wasn't hers". He sounds like he's a mess. But he said her blood pressure went back up a little (not to normal) but at least it's better. I just hope that she is okay soon.

She will be in my prayers. I went through the same thing when I had Wyatt. My Hemoglobin level was at 6 (went down to 5 1/2 but didn't stay very long) as well. 4 pints of blood later I was doing somewhat better. Then I developed pneumonia from all the fluid and my heart stopped working and developed postpartum myocardial apathy. It was a long road to walk and recovery took a long time but if she takes it day by day she will hopefully recover!

Wow - I am SO sorry for her! I hope she does much better soon so she can enjoy her newborn. I know how she feels, as well... I had a C-sec for my now-2yo and about a week after I went into the Urgent Care for evaluation due to terrible headaches and ickiness. My blood pressure was SO extremely high that they immediately called an ambulance for me to do transport to the ER. I also had a 2yo at home! I know it is very scary - you have your family (including newborn) counting on you and there just isn't anything you can do but put your life in the hands of Doctors/others.
Tell her we are all sending the best of thoughts her way.

AH!!!!!!!!!! What are the symptoms of all of that? I know she's at a hospital, but we are a fairly small town.

Well for me I when went home (was released once my hemoglobin level returned to 10, 14 is normal) I tried to rest and relax but my feet starting swelling like crazy. I'm talking elephant legs!! I went back to the E.R. the night I was released and a Doctor as old as Methuselah told me I was just retaining fluid and gave me a lasix. . sent me home. Saturday I woke up and my chest was congested (with no sniffles and no sinus problems) which I thought was weird. (that was the pnemonia) By Monday I could hardly breath! It hurt so much just to inhale and my heart rate was sky rocketing. My doctor thought I might have developed postpartum preeclampsia, which is rare and very severe. . so i was really worried about that. They readmitted me on Monday, went for chest xrays and what not then my doctor came in and told me I had the postpartum myocardial apathy which was basically my heart wasn't strong enough to pump the fluid off my lungs and heart anymore. Luckily they reversed it very quickly and at last check no lasting problems!!!

Thanks for the extra details Amy. I will just watch her closely once she gets home (hopefully Friday or Saturday). I'm thinking they won't release her until she is back to 12, what she came in with. I'll update again tomorrow when I talk to her. I'm glad your situation worked out for you and you caught everything in time. She has has the worst luck with delivery!! Her 1st born, she was in labor forever and had to have a c-section... her epidural didn't take.. and the stupid OB (not her regular) started cutting! She was screaming and could feel EVERY cut, staple, etc. The anestesiologist (sp?) told the OB to stop and he didn't. So the anestisiologist gave her something to knock her out cold, but the baby was already out.
Now this time the delivery went well, but she has to deal with the aftermath. Thankfully this is her last baby (she got her tubes tied yesterday as well) so she won't have to have any more deliveries!
Going to bed.

Good update! I talked to her this morning on the phone for about 5 min and she sounds 100% better just in her voice! She said she is feeling ALOT better and is suprised by how much more energy she has. She was feeding the baby, so she's calling me later, but I'm so relieved that she's starting to feel better!!

Oh I'm sorry to freak you out. If it helps, I have had 2 c-sections with both of mine children with NO PROBLEMS. You will be fine
I just got back from the hospital. She is doing great! She gets to come home tomorrow afternoon. Yay!! I got to hold the baby for AN HOUR!!!!!!!!! He was even awake so I got to see his cute eyes staring at me!
Baby fever is still strong, but I have come to the conclusion that we are done with two and so there will be no more babies for me. :( Hubby is happy I have given up bugging him about having another.

Well... what a weekend! My family went over to visit her yesterday at her house (she lives 2 houses down :) ) and she showed me this HUGE bruise, softball sized, on her stomach by her bellybutton. We both thought it was probably a bruise from them pushing the baby out.
She was in a little bit more pain today, so she had her hubby get a good look at her incision (her tummy is still big, so it's hard for her to see). and he said she had a big BLACK mark right above her incision. That it was so dark it looked like someone useda black permanent marker!!! So she called the hospital, talked to OB, and was told to go to the ER.
So I watched her 2 yr old for 2 hours while they went in with the new baby. Turns out she has a post op hematoma. Which I guess just means a really really deep bruise from having them pull/stretch on her stomach to get the big baby out.
Phew! Dr. said it could take months for it to go away completely, but it's nothing to worry about. Yay! Baby goes in tomorrow or Tuesday for a billirubin testing since he is a bit jaundiced.
And baby fever is officially OVER!

LOl. SO many things you forget about when your kids grow so fast...all the stress of a new baby, just from a sister-in-laws stand point is TOO MUCH!!!
But Wyatt, the big brother LOVES Dylan and can't get enough of him!! He's turned into mommy's little helper with everything, so that's great news too!
