Reading WBs thread about the death penalty sure hits a nerve in me.
Long story short, my grandson lived 2 months 5 days and was abused by his mother(not my child)while living with her boyfriend. She had issues about his color(he was to white), and she hated my son, the father of the child.
I was at the court hearing and heard it ALL, everything that happened to Damon, and it wasnt pretty.
Although I hurt now and then with the strong memories of him, I am not looking for sympathy, it makes the pain worse. The poem was written just a couple days before I found out the truth about what happened, so the illness is what I was hearing, yet not the truth, but still, my grandson is Gods Child now, a much better place for him.
Just feeling melancholy tonight I guess.

not sure why the copyright is 2009, I wrote it in 2000, published in 2001.

He's God's Child

Dedicated to my grandson Damon (two months old)

I heard of His birth,
His dad told me,
I finally got to meet Him,
His mom brought Him,
His mom's mom, His dad's mom, and mom and dad were there,
We laughed, we talked, we even took pictures,
I knew He was ill,
His dad told me,
I heard of His death,
His mom told me,
His mom's mom, His dad's mom, and mom and dad were there,
We cried, we talked, there were no pictures taken,
The love we have was not strong enough to keep Him,
For He's God's Child now.

It is beautiful, simple but says what it needs to say. I'm very sorry, I can't imagine the loss you feel but know it's not anything you will ever forget. My mother lost a baby before me [stillborn] and all these yrs later it still hurts her. It's good you can get some things out with writing.

I just read the other thread. How sad and awful. I was thinking he had an illness until I read the other info. It's hard to imagine anyone being so cruel, if it was so bad why didn't she just give the baby to someone who would love him. I know you don't want sympathy but it's still a heartbreak. I'd personally like to see her fry.
