:D it's INSANE!
I am a "wench" and Singer at the themed Elizabethan Banquets at the local castle:
http://www.eurobookings.com/durham-hotels-gb/lumley-castle.html?label=gg_en_bh_230879-united-kingdom-durham-lumley-castle&gclid=CICH5fuFqpYCFQs2Qwod7l6Uyw
Basically, I have to be a waitress - or rather, a wench - at the banquets, where I serve the courses (of which there are 5). Not only this, I have to dress up in the traditional garb, address everyone as "My Lord" and "My Lady", and be addressed "Lady Katy".
Then, after the courses are served, I get to go off, get changed into a posher medieval frock, then come back to sing to the customers some "traditional" Elizabethan songs, as well as some local folk tunes.
:) I have my dream first job!! I love singing but never thought I'd actually get it. Perhaps it helps my ex-Music Teacher is the resident pianist. ;)
AS well as all that, the castle is said to be haunted, with loads of the girls reporting incidents with the ghost of Lady Lily - who was murdered after refusing to become Catholic (she and her husband were Protestant reformers). She was thrown down a well, and now it is said she haunts the castle, along with the ghosts of the two monks who killed her!!
Ah, I've been dying to tell the old forumers but of course the crashy thing happened...
and of course now I have a nice bit of pocket money so I can get that nice schooling whip I've been after ;)

Lol, WDW, I'll bring my camera on Saturday and see if I can get some piccies especially!
But I'll bet not as jealous as one of my friends at school! Problem is Nick's a boy, so there's no job available for him to dress up and sing to people...because that's what normal boys wanna do :innocent:

I wish I could stay a night there :] tho tbh after 4 hours of work it's so mad we're all glad to get out!
Apparently once the Australian Cricket team stayed over, and got so spooked by the ghosts that one of them camped out in their friend's room. Here's the article...from The Sun, so it's probably not too reliable :P

HOW COOL!!! What a fun job and a totally cool place!
You talking about dressing in medieval clothes brought back a memory of a restaurant I went to years back and thought "I want to work here"! It's a chain in the states and it's just too darned bad there isn't one in the Northwest for Chev and Solon to work at! :)

Aww, the only way it could be better is if horses were involved!!
There is a giant mounting block - and I mean giant, it's easily 5 feet high, I've only ever used 2' blocks - in the courtyard.
Apparently there's a headless horseman that rides from Lumley Castle to Finchale Abbey - anotehr very haunted place (there's supposedly a "Passage of Horror" or something from Finchale to Durham Catherdral, even further away, that's so horrific nobody's ever walked it :P). But I'd like to know who followed the horseman the whole six miles? :]
Work tomorrow! It's a wedding reception so it's early start, 4-9 (usually it's 7-11) promise I'll get some piccies took and put up when I get home! :)
