It seems there are already quite a few members here with Buns - most "house rabbits" too which is even cooler! I wanted to start this thread for us to post pics of our Buns (Chev - you need to post that awesome throne pic again!) and to have a place to ask questions or chat about them.
This is BlackMagic. He was found on the side of the road in a park three years ago - he didn't run from dogs so we knew he had to have been a pet and been dumped. If I'm not home and the dogs are inside, he lives in our large bathroom... but if we are home, he runs the house. I know he is a Lop but he is bigger than a mini and smaller than a normal Lop... he weighs in at 7.5lbs - yes, a little tubby I know!;)

Ooooh! I have a bunny! But she stays outside most of the time, and we just built her a new enclosure (the 5th!) and we put chicken wire on the bottom, so hopefully (keeping my fingers crossed!) she won't get out of this one. So far she has dug, bent the wire down, and hopped over every single other one. We used to have three rabbits, but one mysteriously died, and the other ran away and never came back. So now Casey is the only one left.
But i do have a question - I have just noticed that Casey is started to put on quite a bit of weight, what dietary changes would help her? Right now she's free fed pellets and grass hay, with carrots and lettuce and stuff thrown in.

Gosh, if I gave Magic free feed pellets he would be fat as a house!:p As it is, he is getting quite portly and I know I've been too liberal with the fruit in his diet - but he loves it. I'm thinking maybe you need to limit the pellets and I need to cut back on the bananas, grapes, pineapple and strawberries!:D

Magic is so lucky that you found him, gosh he is adorable!! Aren't bunnies so smart and so fun?!!
I wouldn't really cut back on his fruits so much, they do say to provide grass hay daily for them tho, that is actually better than pellets, altho they need pellets too. Pellets can make them kind of fat I guess.

You know... now that you mention the grass hay, I didn't even think about the fact that Magic has been getting Alfalfa rather than the Orchard Grass my horses eat. He tended to just nibble at the OG and devours the Alf... just like horses I suppose - it's like candy!
Ebony is adorable... how much does she weigh? Does she have fuzzy gray feet too?

Yeah, alfalfa is OK for the very young bunnies, but not so good for older buns....they say timothy or orchard grass is better....Ebony loves orchard grass! lol. Eb weighs about 6 lbs., and yeah, he has cute little gray paws.....I call him "Eboneester T. Graypaws"....lol!

And, I have to include a picture of my sweet Bun Bun, I had Bun Bun for (let me see) about 6 years I think.....he sadly had to be put to sleep after he suffered a stroke. I was so crushed. He was a love. I got Ebony shortly after I lost Bun, and Ebony has fast become my best little buddy.

Here's Roger!!!! One picture is when he was at the stable and the other is in his little cage. I do let him out. My biggest problem is that I need to housebreak him and the other is getting him to come when I want to put him to bed. He'll run around and won't come, I'm exhausted trying to catch him, he's a fast bunny!!!!! I'll even sit there and wait for him to come to me but he'll take off as soon as I go to touch him.
He'll let me hold him with no problem it's just catching him when he's running loose. Tyler will say "Roger Runnin"! Our house is really an assylum!
I bought bunny litter so now we have to work on that. He is a cutie. Everyone's bunnies are so cute. They do make fun little friends!

I've got a full size Rex. His name is Allister, don't ask where I got the name from! I have no idea! He is...almost 3 years old. He is extremely outgoing and is a full-time house rabbit when we're home.

Awwww!!!! Bunnies are very adorable!
I have two rabbits, Skye and Ronnie. They live in my room.
Skye, she is such spoiled little princess.

Ronnie. My brother found him running around the neighborhood and none of the neighbors knew who he belonged to, so he is now ours and bonded to Skye.

Allister has always had those ears too, ever since he was little. It's funny when he's hopping around the house, sometimes you only see his ears! I've never actually weighed Allister but I'm guessing he weighs around 8 or 9 pounds, give or take.

Okay bunny experts... Hubby and I were talking about MAYBE getting a rabbit for the kids (okay, US too!). My husband used to have them when he was little but they were always outside and he said he never brought them in.
How do you all let your Buns in? Don't they go to the bathroom everywhere? I would love an indoor bunny, but hubby said you can't train them. I will be showing him this thread for proof that they do live inside and run around.
Thanks everyone... now instead of baby fever I have BUNNY fever! (which is probably better anyways!)

I know lots of people with litter trained rabbits! When I got mine I immediately had his cage in the house and he had a litter box in the corner of the cage - he just automatically went potty in it. Soon we started leaving his door open so he could roam that room and he always went back to the litterbox (use corn cob litter and NOT litter for cats as sometimes buns eat it!) to do his business. After a couple monthes we started letting him roam the whole house while supervised and we quickly discovered that (probably because he is an un-neutered male) he will pee in places the smell of another animal is strong... like my dogs bed and in front of the back door where my old Beagle has accidents once in a while. Sooo we keep our bedroom (where the dog beds are) baby-gated and I just now if Magic is out I'll probably have to clean a potty spot on the floor in front of the door. I've tried squirting him with water when I catch him starting to go, and that definately stops him, but he always does it again. I have friends with rabbits however that NEVER go potty outside the litter box.
Here are a couple of articles: http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/litter.html and http://www.howtodothings.com/pets-and-animals/a3077-how-to-house-train-rabbits.html

Thanks for those links Sedona. Very interesting and informative. I will have to have hubby read it tonight when he gets home.
Any certain kind of rabbit that is good for small kids, etc.?

I looked into this for my niece and it seems that as a general rule they say the larger breeds are better for kids and less likely to bite. However, the Flemish Giants that are known to be great with kids - get so big they scare some kids and are too big for kids to pick up (most rabbits hate being picked up anyway). My little mini lop is great with with kids and has never threatened to bite - but apparently some do.

I used to have a house bunny named Bunnicula - he sadly passed away :( I would love to have another but I fear the weiner dogs would torture it worse than they do the cats :)

Bunzilla is just so adorable! I love those pics of her, way too cute, she is adorable!
Allister, Sky and Ronnie are soooooo adorable....there is just nothing better than a pet bunny, they are so smart and affectionate.
It's really hard to find the right rabbit for kids.....kids can be so rough (well, not all, but most seem to be) and rabbit's backs can break so easily, so I kind of cringe whenever I see kids handling rabbits, unless they are sitting on the floor with the rabbit on the floor......most rabbits don't like to be held anyway, like you say. I've noticed that mini lops, and the larger breeds too, are more calm.
Lovesfortune, it's real easy to litterbox train a rabbit, basically just offer them a litterbox like you would a cat......some un-neutered male rabbits my spray tho, for a while. And if anyone should decide to get their bunny spayed or neutered make sure your vet is very knowledgable about rabbits since some anesthesia can kill rabbits....I believe isoflurane is a rabbit-safe anesthesia. I get a lot of info from www.rabbit.org
If kids can be gentle with the rabbits and not drop them or let them jump out of their arms, and know how to properly handle rabbits, they can be such loving pets.....but rabbits scratch and hate to be picked up....so it is best to sit on the floor with them, and rabbits backs are very fragile and break easily. Kids have to learn to hold both the rabbit's butt and the front end of the rabbit (you never pick a rabbit up by the scruff of the neck or hold with one hand). Anyway....I am such a huge bunny lover.....I belonged to the Wisconsin House Rabbit Society for quite a few years, it was fun to meet other bunny people!
