So I've never had cavities in my life until my son was born. Now I've had 5 fillings done and I'm pretty inexperienced with this. Last week I had 3 fillings done (upper left, upper right and lower right) Saturday night my jaw started aching whenever I closed my teeth. . . and I noticed my teeth don't feel lined up. So I went this morning to have my dentist adjust my bite and it felt a bit better but the pain was still there. Now this afternoon it's as bad as ever so I'm afraid he didn't do enough of an adjustment.
Is it always this hard to get a bite adjusted correctly? And has anyone had this problem before? I just wonder if maybe it'll take time for my jaw to stop hurting. . . sigh. But it just doesn't feel right!!!
My Mom thinks my dentist is a quack. . . and since I've never been through this I don't know enough to judge!!!

Sounds like you not lined up right......I've had it happen a few times, but it only took one trip back to fix.

I've never had to go back and have them adjusted. They're usually pretty careful to assess bite before I leave. I guess I'd try to relax it as much as possible, maybe take some IB or something, and if the jaw isn't better by tomorrow go back again.
BTW, I never had a cavity till I was about 39, and since then I've had to have a few, and I didn't have kids. I think it might just be an aging thing? :(

I see a chiropractor, who, among other things, aligns my jaw......you talk about INTENSE pain.....yikes ! But, I feel allot better afterwards!

I inhertited dreadful teeth from my dad. I've had somewhere around 30 fillings done in my life. I usually get between 2 and 5 done at a time. Most of the time, for a little while after Ihave work done, my jaw feels a bit out of whack, but once the soreness goes away, it's fine. It does change your bite ever so slightly, but you just have to get used to it. It doesn't mess it up, just makes it a bit different. You're mouth will work just as well as before ;).
I never heard of having your jaw adjusted. However - your pain sounds similar to when I was having issues with TMJ due to grinding & clenching my teeth at night due to stress.
Funny - now that I think about it - I haven't had any jaw pain issues since I've been laid off. :hysterical: Maybe that is telling me something about my last job.

But the left side feels like it doesn't touch!!!! Lol. I am not a fan of this teeth out of whack pain. . . how long does it take to go away.
I called the dentist, going back on Thursday morning to look at it again. . . sigh. It's an hour drive each way. ..
Steve!! Your jaw adjusted!! ouch!!! I can't imagine!! It was painful to have my back done!!!
My Mom has TMJ so I thought of that too but now I'm pretty certain it's my bite since it doesn't hurt if I clench my teeth with an underbite. . . like at all.
I've been drinking hot tea and sitting with a hot pad on my face most of the day. . . lol. I'm going to loose weight simply because I don't want to eat. . . hmmm. . .maybe I should cancel my Thursday appointment. .. sigh. better not!

Sounds painful...and strange. I think I'd be looking for a new dentist.

Yeah I think I'm going to after this. He uses this laser thing to look for cavities and finds some you can see on xrays and can't see in person. . . sigh. My friends who work in dentists office say they've never heard of that. . . not comforting. . .

After I've had cavities filled it will sometimes have a rough spot on my tooth but that's all I've had (knock on wood). Our dentist we think is a quack too. For some reason I end up with more cavities then I have teeth in my head, go figure! lol :p
One of the guys who works at the dentist office we were going to was said to have killed his wife, they've never said anything else about his court case, but because he was under supervison and living with one of the other dentist he is back at his practice. So for now we're going to no dentist. Regardless though I think they are screwballs there, lol. :p
I hope you get better!!! Hugs :grouphug:

When I was working as a dental assitant I saw a few people come back in with bite problems. I have not had it happen to me, but it appeared to be rather painful for them. At the office I worked at we always used bite paper (it was bluish and we would have the patient bite down on it after a filling and move their teeth side to side). The markings left on the tooth from the paper were then filed down and rechecked again. If the dentist didn't do that he/she may not have gotten it alligned correctly.
Hope you get to feeling better - definitely go back to the dentist...

This can be VERY painful if your bite is off. It's like having a pebble in your shoe. If you bite down slowly and the tooth that was worked on is hitting first your bite needs to be adjusted. Sometimes it's hard to get people bite correct if they are numb. You're jaw should NOT hurt at all after having a cavity filled. We also use bite paper at our office. (it's like type writer ribbon) like starkitten stated if there are bold marks left on the teeth those areas need to be adjusted. Sometimes it will take a few visits if you have a very sensitive bite. (like myself or my father) lol I couldn't even feel that my bite was off but we sat there for a while and finally found that TINY spot that was ever so slightly off and adjusted it and felt better almost right away. If you're bite is off you may also experience hot or cold sensitivity...teeth are crazy sometimes. I'm really sorry that you are going thru this. :( it's never fun and whenever I hear these stories I want them to come to my office! (but that would be an even longer ride :) to NJ) Goodluck and I hope you feel better!
edit ps...if one side of your mouth isn't even touching this is absolutely unacceptable and I'd find another dentist.
and second opinions NEVER hurt. Always ask to see the xrays that show your cavities...any dentist should be more than willing to show and explain what you are looking at.

could take a few days or a week.
if you feel your bite isn't correct , and falling off or hitting on something before you bite "normal" you need to go back in.
It's quite possible your dentist filled in the tooth to where it normally should be , and your natural feeling (bite) seems weird right now.
I had for years 1 filling , then I went to my current dentist and got like 10 or 12 fillings. (I thought I was building a house for him) \
But he proved to me the decay was there .... mirrors and probing.
Ironically the time I swithced to this dentist 14 years ago was the time I started work for my current company and candy dish's were every where ....
