You know how you go through your years and have some memories of school and a few teachers that stand out. Ones that you will never forget, whether they were great mentors or great goofballs, they will always be in you head.

Well, I just recieved news that one of those teachers for me passed away two days ago.
 His name was Mr. Hershnik and he taught middle school english. He was a goofball through and threw, he used to sing. "My Bonnie" everytime I'd raise my hand or walk in the room. He never once gave me a hard time about my dyslexia, he was always giving me support and helping me get through essays. He was a very vibratant and caring man.
They believe he died of a heart attack as he was found dead in his house yesterday afternoon after not showing up to work for two days. :(

Unfortunately I can not attend the funeral being as it is in CT but my Best friend is going and she said she'll say goodbye for me.

Rest in Peace Mr. H.

This is for you,
"My Bonnie lies over the ocean,
My Bonnie lies over the sea,
My Bonnie lies over the ocean.
Oh bring back my Bonnie to me."

It's too bad there are not more teachers out there like that - sounds like he made an impact on many lives.

May he rest in peace

Aw, how sad. It's nice that you have such a great memory of him, though. I'm glad your friend will be able to say goodbye for you. :(

Oh no, I'm so sorry!

My favorite middle school teacher passed away last year. She taught Science, she got in a car wreck. Pretty much the whole town went to a memorial. She was young too, she had a daughter a year older than me (I'm a junior in HS) and a son younger than her.

It seems good teachers aren't as easy to find nowadays with all the issues they face it's good to hear and remember a great one.

HAving a teacher that you remember in your adult years something grand. I struggled in school, for personal reasons, but there was ONE teacher that helped me to graduate HS. It's those teachers that deserve a "teacher of life" award.

Sorry your teacher passed, it will be a great loss.

Aw, I'm so sorry to hear about his passing. I know what you mean by those special teachers you will never forget. I was lucky enough to have 3! One in elementary school, one in middle school and one in high school. I still keep in touch with all 3 too. My kindergarten teacher was diagnosed with cancer recently. She had just gotten remarried after 12 years alone since her husband passed away. Her new hubby is an amazing person and I'm so glad he's there for her. She's doing very well and my mom and I had lunch with her a few weeks ago.
I hope everyone should be so lucky as to have at least one great teacher in their life. They can really inspire a kid to do their very best and follow their dreams.

So sorry to hear about this. One of my favorite HS teachers died about 5 years ago, she was pretty old when she taught me in HS so she must have been ancient. She was my Latin teacher for 4 years in HS, Sr. Rita Marie. Spoke several languages, taught Latin, was a spry little thing, tough as nails but with a heart of gold. She did missionary work during the summers. There is a memorial scholarship fund set up for her at my hs.

Maybe you could start something like that?
