Been trying to get with this guy on some Alf/grass mix, and finally after church, we got together. Five bucks a bail, and ya know, its some gooooood stuff. Im trying to find the grass in it...lol. BIG thick flakes too. So when I finally get them switched over(I still have a few bales grass)they will probley only get 1 flake per feeding(maybe 2 depending on how they handle it), yup, they are 4 inch heavy thick flakes of pure nummyness. What Id like to do in the future, is get a round bale of grass and put it in their feeding area, that way they can graze as they want. IF that happens, I may have to cut back on the alf/grass to once a day, cause they get pellets twice a day also, not a whole serving cause they would be FAT. Five bucks, NICE. Oh, and he sells yr round too.
Im stoked. I can buy awesome grass off the field for 2.50 and alf/grass(mostly alf)for 5.00. Did I say Im stoked....lol

Oh Vick thanks for rubbing it in. I am scared to death to see what I have to pay for good hay this summer.

I have hay jealousy right now and need to go pout.

I'm happy for you. Sounds like you got a good deal. :)

However I'm glad I live in KS. It's so much cheaper here. I don't think I could afford all my horses if the hay was that much.

For alfa alfa $2.50 a bale.
For round 1400lb bale of bermuda grass $45.
I could buy round bales of grass hay for $20.
I buy this one, because I can trust the guy on the quality and he brings it for me and sits it where I want it, even if I'm not at home. He'd even take the netting off and close the gates after himself so it really is worth it for me.

As you said you cannot compare to other states, it's a good deal where you live, so it's awesome you got a good deal. :)

Wow, you are lucky! We don't get Alfalfa around here, unless it's trucked in. We have blister beetle problems.

I get my Bermuda hay delivered and stacked for me for $5.25 a bale, and feed alfalfa pellets.

Well, you don't have a lot of WATER to grow the hay, lol. I imagine most of your hay is trucked in as well. I have a friend in Murrieta (Riverside County Calif) and she pays $13-15 a bale for straight alfalfa.

Also keep in mind that most of the West Coast hays are baled a LOT heavier than hay in other parts of the country. A standard square/rectangle bale of grass hay out here is anywhere from 45-65 lbs. The bales of Alfalfa I used to throw and stack in San Diego were more like 100-125 lbs, lol. So, per-pound, the price for hay out here isn't much better at all ;).
