Well having an extra day off and perfect riding weather for a beautiful ride.

I was originally only going for a few hour ride but ended up doing 4 hours. Trailered down the road about 5 miles south of the stable. Parked on the east side of Las Vegas Blvd, crossed the railroad tracks, through a tunnel that goes under I-15 (major traffic) to the other side of paradise!
Here are some pics of the ride. I even came across our wild mustangs. I took a few pictures but it is too far away. There was a appy, palomino, and a chestnut. I didn't want to get too close for safety of all. It was pretty cool. It took me many trips to find them. I would always find their poop all over in this area and knew that they would be back but ????
My ride had to be about 15+ miles today.

Here are a few more pictures. In the last post, the last picture is the mustangs. Their is a appy, chestnut and palomino.

First picture is the wild mustangs.
second is Chip and I on our way UP
and UP.
Last picture is another trail that my daughter and I took last fall.

Hi Gaited,

Love your pictures! So very different than MO.

We came upon some MO wild horses last week while trail riding near Eminence, MO. They were SO wild that we had to herd them off of the trail. We even had one loner who followed us for awhile one day. We have seen them several times in past years, but they have always run from us before.

I am getting old...my eyes couldn't find the mustangs...:( But it looks like you had a great ride. Does your horse go through that tunnel?? I think my Dallas would freak..LOL

Were you by yourself? Sometimes those are the best rides.....peaceful!

Would be neat to ride where the mustangs still roam. :)

Thanks for sharing them!

Great pics, I could see the little specks of color that must be the mustangs, lol! I used to have the burros and a couple of mustangs hanging around my trails but I haven't seen them this past year at all. The weather has been great the past couple of days. I'm planning on doing a couple of rides this weekend, got to take advantage of the great weather before it gets cold.

Thanks everyone.

Countrygirl; yes I rode alone on this one. And as for the tunnel, the first time through, I walked him by hand through it and then rode him so he would not be afraid.
Just about a mile north of this tunnel is this other tunnel that was build in 1925 (?)

Okay, here is the other part of my post:doh:

I know that the mustangs are hard to see on those pictures (camera sucks) I also took some pictures with my phone but don't have the new cables to retrieve pics from phone yet (new phone:huh:)

I've included the pic again with the mustangs. There are three small specks in the center of the pic. On the left is the palomino, center is the chestnut, and the appy is on the right.

Arrow; For the most part the skies are beautiful blue, however there are those hazy days with all the traffic here now. Alot of our blue skies are being sucked up by smog.

That tunnel is cool! We've got one that we ride through on our Natchez Trace ride. We're going again this Saturday and I'm really looking forward to it. The leaves were changing a good bit already last weekend, so they should be much brighter this weekend. Here's the tunnel approach...

Yes it is. Lot closer and less traffic issues. Not to mention, I know of a nicer place;). Your choice!

Hey Frog,
Nice pictures! I rode on the Natchez trail MANY years ago just north of Carthage, MS. It was a huge ride with over 100+ riders.

Thanks everyone for all the nice compliments. The desert does hold a special beauty and seeing the wild horses just brings you back to a day of simpler times.

Carthage is down close to Jackson, MS isn't it? This section that we ride is not too far south of Nashville but north of Columbia, TN. So did you use to live in the Southeast?

Philadelphia, MS is where I was transferred to. I purchased a house in Maddin, MS which is a couple miles southeast of Carthage. Carthage is about 60 miles north of Jackson, MS.
The group that I hooked up with was riding from the beginning of the Natchez Trace trail to Jackson, MS.

Great pictures, thanks for sharing! I used to enjoy seeing the wild mustangs when I lived in Henderson, whenever we'd go to Bonnie Springs I would watch for them. They definately are hard to spot, but I managed to find the palomino in your picture! :)

Wow, that's a pretty far piece! Did you ride the whole distance?

I love Natchez. There's so many historic old homes there. We did their Spring Pilgrimage one year and really enjoyed it. It's absolutely STUNNING when all the azaleas and dogwood trees are in bloom!

No, we hooked up with them just north of Carthage (forgot the name of the town) we camped over night and headed out on the Natchez trail. We rode for about 25 miles the first day, camped over night and loaded up (work again:doh:)
It was a very well organized with chuck wagon, potty wagons, (beer wagons) The gaited groups was leading the pack with the R&R groups bringing up the rear.
One of the local girls invited me at the last minute. She would ride with them everytime they would come through, infact, the group would camp out in her relatives yard!

I didn't know you had been to Natchez to see the homes, Frog. My sister and I took my mother there for her 70 birthday. It was wonderful. I could have stayed a week instead of a weekend. I hope the rain doesn't knock us out of the ride down the Trace.

Natchez is a beautiful old town with so much history. I love all the old plantation homes. It's been many a years since I was there but I would love to visit again.

Yeah, it was great! We stayed in an old plantation home called Dunlieth that is now a B&B. It looks like The Forks of Cypress must have looked before it burned, except I don't think The Forks had a 2nd story veranda...

All those old homes are just magical. Most are open to the public and many have been made into Bed & Breakfasts, so if any of you ever get the chance to stay in one, be sure and do it. They're a window into a bygone age.

We went to that one, but I think it was the one closed for a wedding. It's one of the nicer ones. I couldn't believe how much it cost to have a wedding there. There were cars there with tags from all over.

I went to Natchez last year on a girls' weekend trip. We toured several of the old plantation homes. We stayed at the old Eola Hotel. If I remember right that is where John Wayne and Elizabeth Taylor stayed while filming a movie, but I don't remember which movie. Does anyone out there know? I forget the story, but I think that they got into some kind of a disagreement while filming the movie.
