Today Appylover, Gaited and I went on a trail ride in Snow Canyon, Utah. It started out as a beautiful, sunny day in the 70's. We headed out on the sandy trail and rode through sand dunes while enjoying the scenery of the beautiful sandstone cliffs.

Scout was a little spunky in the beginning and Appy and Gaited were a little ahead of me at one point when Scout decided it was time for me to do a flying dismount. By the time I was aware she had bucked I was already out of the saddle and caught a glimpse of her hind feet flying as I flipped through the air! I dreaded hitting the ground and it took me a few seconds after I landed to realize that I had already hit it. Lucky me the sandy trail was so soft it was like landing on a pillow, I wasn't hurt at all, lol. If nothing else at least Scout has timing. The next part of the trail was covered with lava rock and I was grateful she tossed me off in the soft spot! She behaved herself for the rest of the ride. I guess she just had a bug up her butt in the beginning.

I'll let Appy and Gaited tell some of the other stories from the day, there were other adventures.

Here are some pics from the day:
1. Pine tree against the sandstone
2. Appylover and Abbey at the top of a steep rocky hill
3.Abby showing off her bare feet...looking good!
4.Group photo
5.Gaited and her horse, Chip

2. Lave tube..pretty cool!
3. Rough terrain, lava rock is not very foregiving
4. Horses tired after running across the sand dunes!

As VHL said, we had a great ride!

As for VHL's flying dismount, I missed it but one of the bicyclists said that we had a rider down:eek:. When I turned around, VHL was already standing up dusting off. I'm just glad that she was not hurt.

Here are some pics to add to our adventure.

The ride was beautiful. Since we were in a park though that seemed to cater to the retirement comunity though it was a bit restricting on just where we could ride, but the park ranger was nice and cleared things up for us. Still was a great ride, next we will have to go to a place that caters more to being on horseback. But We at least did get some great shots.

Here are some of the ones I was able to get.

I am so jealous!! Great pictures and it looks like ya'll had so much fun. Or, er...at least after the sand diving. Like Auequine said, we have nothing like that here.

Glad you missed the rocks, that could have been bad. :(

Lol, yep renegade riders blazing our own trails...that's us!

Thanks everyone, I'm glad I missed the rocks also. It's not like Scout to buck but she has the hindquarters to really launch you if she wants. Before getting back on I checked her girth and under her pad and removed her sport boots thinking that maybe some sand had got in there and was bothering her. I've had her for two years now and that was the first time she's ever tossed me. Maybe two or other three times in the past she's thrown a couple of little crow hops but nothing that ever came close to unseating me. It must have been the boots because she was a doll the rest of the ride. She's got a stubborn streak but really is a great trail horse. She handles all kinds of terrain and trail obstacles like a champ. Gaited got on her for me for a few minutes while I dusted myself off and Scout showed her a little of her stubborn side but Gaited let her know that she wasn't any match for her, lol!
