Last weekend I went down to college station to shoot my good friend Dawn's engagement photos. Of course that's not ALL I shot. . . Dawn lives on a huge ranch with her 4 horses. It's where I kept Sterling the last part of college. . .and where Sonora was born! There are a lot of other horse besides Dawn's out there and she and her fiance take care of them all. The owner of the ranch doesn't live there so it's pretty much Dawn's place.
Anyways, Sunday morning, before I packed up to leave, we turned her mares into the baby pasture (which is where Sonora grew up) and I got some photos!!! Dawn has joined here (user name RavvyB) so maybe she'll post! But I wanted to share cause I love these horses like they were my nieces. . . lol.
Silhouette: She was Sterling's BEST friend. They were inseparable!!!! She and Sterling were pregnant together and raised their babies together, crossed big mountain ranges together (Dawn & I were there too. . .) and lived pretty much everyday of the 6 years I was in College Station together. She is 20 this year, Thoroughbred, and S.P.U.N.K.Y. Lol

Running because she feels good! Sil cracks me up because every day after she's done eating she stands at her stall gate like she's in a starting gate of a race. As soon as you open it she busts into a run and doesn't stop until she is way out to pasture. . .lol.
Rav: This is Dawn's baby. (Silhouette's too I guess ;) ) She and Sonora were born less than 3 weeks apart. She's a gorgeous girl. Oldenburg mare, 6 years old.

Devon (and Deana, who I missed getting any photos of somehow. . .): Devon and Deana were bought by Dawn's parents as babies, but now belong to Dawn. They were born the same year as Sonora and Rav. Dawn and I saw them both the day they were born. (In fact I carried Devon a few feet. . .cause she wouldn't follow her Mom to a new pasture area. . .) Percheron Mares, 6 years old.

One last photo. This horse is the ranch owner's. He has a band of broodmares (that he doesn't breed very often). Her name is Chivas and she is pretty to look at but quick to kick and bit difficult to work around on the ground. . . but it was a pretty photo. . .
