ok, So I got a loan for 5k and am going to buy a trailer for Muffin. As most of you have seen I have an old 2 horse strait load bumper pull that even with the divider slanted barely fits Muffins big butt!
We got laughed at when we pulled in to the stables with Muffin in it. All the guys were laughing at Mom and I saying that we have the biggest horse and the smallest trailer! They were shocked we could even get him in that trailer!
So, I'm wanting a used 2 horse slant bumper pull with walk in tack. The 2 horse trailer I have now is older...I think a 77 Miley and it's smaller then the 2 horse trailers that are built today.
I'm looking at this trailer from a dealer here in town.
1999 Morgan Built 2 horse slant w/walk in tack. It's listed at 5K but they reduced the price to $4,600 including tax and licensing.
http://www.horsetrailerworld.com/thetrailermart/detail.asp?ID=190469
So, what do you think?
Good deal? Should I get it?
Muffin will fit in there, it's tall but not the extra tall (only 6 more inches). It's a 2 horse slant and that's what I want because I don't need any bigger or I will be pushing my old truck to it's limits.
I also found this 3 horse slant about 2 hours away for less, but I just don't know if I want a bigger trailer or need one for just Muffin. I don't know if it has a walk in tack or if it's just a stalk slant load. Looks to be in good condition and it's newer then the one at the dealership. But, I just don't think I need one that big. Maybe I can get the dealership to lower there price on the 2 horse slant?

Here's the video of Muffin going to the vets. You can see how he barely fits in my trailer and he even bowed out the drivers side from leaning on it .

This is a pic from last year practicing trailer loading him, I forgot to tie his tail up  but he loaded great.

Then we decided along with forum members to move the divider over to give him more room to balance.

That's how we got him to the stables and he did great but this trailer is just too small for him. It has new floors and is solid, it's just too small.....
So, what do you think of the trailers I am looking into? Which one and is it a good deal?

The 3 horse says its a 92 and the one at the dealership says it's a 99. If you are already worried about pushing your truck I' stick with the two horse. It looks very nice and well cared for!!

I am by no means an expert, but I do like both of them. For one horse, the two horse might be better, imo. I hope you get one you like and good luck!

Boy - I'd think in your part of the country, it can't be too open.
I'd look for a slant or stock trailer that is open on both sides with slats... The ones with windows, unless you're going to travel with them down (which is often not a good idea) it's still hot inside in the sun.
Ours is a Thurobilt that is open on both sides, no glass, and it's cool inside (at least no hotter than anywhere else) when we get back from a ride, even when it's been sitting in the sun. The ones with windows, well, they're a lot like getting in a hot car.

IrisGreen, I am a manager at a Trailer lot in Las Vegas. I'm not going to get all sales pitchy with you but a 1999 Morgan Built 2 horse slant w/walk in tack at $4600 is a rip off... Not only did Morgan built went out of business this year I have a Brand new 09 Thuro-bilt Shilo ex (loaded)for $6100.00 or my Thuro-bilt Spirits start at $4900 new! I'm not saying pack up and come buy one but $4600 for a 10 y/o trailer is a huge rip off and please dont buy it. I checked my resale book on it and it only books (in show room condition)at $1900 maybe $2000... There are many Thuro Bilt lots by you and there great trailers. I own one, Appylover has one, and I think WB has one....
The 3 horse is a much better deal, I would offer him $2800 books at $2300...So $2800 is a fair price. I personally wouldnt pay more the $3000 for it though

I would get the 3 horse, but that's just me, it gives him more wide room lol. And you'd have more room for another horse, if for some reason you needed to haul two horses. But, if you don't think your truck could handle it then I guess the 2 horse is your answer. Find out the weight of both and the towing capacity on your truck and go from there. :)

Thankx so much everyone!! Especially Aries!! I won't by the trailer from the dealer!!! I don't know about used trailers so I have no clue what there worth or which ones are good or not. I'm glad I posted BEFORE I purchased that trailer!!! :D
Well, I guess I will keep looking. We only tried for a 5k loan but I think we could get more if we wanted, I just didn't want to pay more then that on a used trailer. I had no idea you could get a new one for that price! All the ones on that dealer lot are 7k and up for just a simple 2 horse straight load. The slants are much more so I thought $4,600 was a good price......I had no clue it was way over priced for the make and model!
Thankx so much for your help, I guess we will keep looking. I will look up other dealers in the area and try to find a good deal on the kind of trailer I would like. Wanna ship me a trailer? lol :)
Thanks again, I will do some more searching.....

Here's mine.... We paid around $6000 for it new.
All the dividers swing or can come out, including the tack room.

ohh, I like yours WB!!!:) I looked up dealers but the closest is 70+ miles away for a thuro bilt. I guess I can call them and ask what there prices are.
I placed an ad on craigslist looking for a used 2h BP slant load so I will see if anyone emails me wanting to sell there trailer for a good price. I will see...
I also called the buy with the 3 horse slant I posted, he still has it. He said people have called asking if he still has it but they never come out to see it. I guess he just had it repainted, it used to be an off white color I guess. He said theres a tack room with removable divider. I told him I needed to talk to the Hubby and see if we could come down this weekend and see if if he still had it. I also need to look up the empty weight on it but he said he pulled it with an old 1/2 ton pickup and it did fine.
I will do some more research on it and talk to the hubby. I also need to call the trailer dealer back and let them know that I did get a loan but that I'm not going to buy there 2 horse slant for that price. Maybe they will lower it closer to what it should be if they really want to sell it...we will see.

Im glad I could help you!! If you want one like WB let me know. I work for Carson Trailer and we have a million locations in Socal. I can have one sent to any Carson locations for whole sale cost plus Freight (we will call that the baywind secret price lol that doesn't leave baywind). I think it would be like $5800-5900....somewhere around there. They also have one thats like mine or Appylover a gt model...they are even cheaper. You can check out specs at www.Thurobilt.com (http://www.Thurobilt.com) . If you have any other questions feel free to ask!

Well, I just got off the phone with the lady at the trailer lot, she was not happy. I told her we did get a loan from are bank but I was told by friends that there asking price was a bit high. She immediately said well that includes tax and licensing and thats a good deal. We have been in the business for 25 years so we should know the price of trailers and unless your friends run a trailer business they don't know the prices. I said told her that one does run a trailer lot and she said, ohh well then maybe we paid too much for this trailer because we are only making $200 bucks off it and we need to pay are bills too!
Then she went on to tell me that if I wanted to buy a trailer from somewhere else then go right ahead but that was a good deal on that trailer.
I asked her what a new trailer would cost that's comparable to the used one they are selling for $4,600. I heard the calculator in the back ground and she said the lowest one that was comparable was a TrailWest Adventure 2h slant with walk in tack and no feed doors for $7,820 (model 7195).
She was not happy when I told her my friends though that was a bit much to ask for the 99 Morgan built. I was nice but I could tell she wanted to hang up on me. lol

That first trailer looks kind of short to me. Make sure the trailer is LONG enough also. I have a livestock trailer, but I have to load my horse in the front section because he is too long to be tied in the back of the trailer. I have one horse and one pony so it works for me, horse in front, pony in back. I also have the option of NOT shutting the middle gate, so I could haul 2 horses in the front...but Ginger doesn't like to hear Whip stomp and make noise...if it was a different horse I could.
Point being, make sure it is TALL enough, WIDE enough, and LONG enough!
I don't think some of the Flexsteel trailers are that heavy. They might provide more room, just a thought. I only have a Chevy 1500 4 by 4 and I can haul the trailer and 2 horses.

Here is one that is for sale locally. A 2002 barely used Circle J two horse slant load with dressing room. These trailers are very roomy and well made. All wiring is in a protective tubing (at least mine is)
http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/grd/1092546692.html
As for the book price on a used trailer, I'm sure you will do you homework on comparison prices. This is going to reflect area, brand and of course, econony.
The price that Aries gave on the trailer sounds more like a wholesale (trade in allowance).
I do like the Miley trailer. The 3 horse trailer is going to be heavier than sh?t to tow. I think the Miley would be bigger inside than the three horse. JMO

Sorry about my post. I thought that the trailer was a Miley, OH I'm BAD!!!!! Don't know too much about Morgan.
The Thorobilts are about the roomiest and tallest trailers I've seen. Well built, and reasonably priced.
The Morganbuilt you looked at probably cost less then $4600 new. It is one of the simple models. Glad you didn't buy it!
I've noticed that used horse trailers are almost too high priced to justify choosing used over new. The deal that Aries mentioned is a good one. Hope you can make use of it.

Actually trade in allowance is around $900 in excellent shape ;) I actually did give the worth value. Kbb took a HUGE drop since this new quater. That trailer would have fetched more last quater then this quater. She probably did pay what she says (or close to it) but everything took such a huge hit. I honestly don't believe that she paid that much...Especially since she got mad. If I was running such a great deal I wont be mad that the custmoer said I was ripping them off, I would have been friendly KNOWING they would come back because its such a great deal, or because I know I would sell it to someone else and probably make more of a profit. I'm not a comissioned dealer...I actually make a very sad salary paycheck. I only have the kbb book out on trailers because I need it to finance people with the banks.
ETS- that circle j is a WAY better trailer then the morgan built and look at the year diff 2002-1999 and she only asking $5500 and will probably neg.

Aries,
My comment was geered towards it being a "Miley" not a Morgan. Morganbuilts I have heard to be cheaply built.

I wonder if that was why I got denied by there bank for the loan?
She ran my credit through the bank they use for the trailer. She called me back and said "I have bad news but I have good news too". Your credit is great but they denied the loan. Then she went on to tell me that she was puzzled as to why when my credit was so good and bla bla. Then she told me to take out a personal loan from my bank because they would give it to me.
Well, My bank did give it to me. But, now I'm thinking the reason why there bank denied the trailer loan was because the selling price was twice the worth of the actually trailer! Maybe that's why they wouldn't finance it? She said there bank finances used trailers and I had a great credit score but she didn't know why they wouldn't.
I bet that was why they denied it but she didn't want to tell me the trailer wasn't worth that much now.
ETA:
Ohh, yeah and I forgot. The lady told me they were only making $200 bucks off that trailer but she also priced it at $4,900 including tax/license when she ran it for the loan (I found this out afterwords) when the day before the sales rep told me they just reduced it to $4,600 including tax/license. So, I have no idea what they actually want for that trailer but she sure got upset with me today when I told her it was priced a little high. I should have told her that her own sales rep quoted me $300 less then what she is quoting me now. But, I just left it alone, the lady was already pretty mad and getting all huffy.

I'm not too sure I would deal with this lady. She sounds kind of shady:eek:.
The deal that aries was offering sounds good. And the Thurobuilt that Appylover has is very ROOMY (2 horse slant w/dressing room) it's big enough for 3. (not the size of Muffin heeheehee)
Give either Appylover or Aries a hollar on this.
I also know that you could get a descent deal with Circle J trailers. Luther Reese with Reese trailer sales up in Yerrington, NV. He is the guy who I purchased my trailer from and he gave me a HECK of a good deal. PM me if you want his contact info.

Dang, Aries. Now I feel like I got ripped off. :( My dad bought a 2006 Morgan 3h slant for $12,000 new at a dealership. Blast.
