Okay, so I board Koda at a friends house and have told M (friend) that she can ride him when ever she wants. She is a much better rider then I am and has way more horse experience too so I don't worry about it. Well I found out today that she took him out on Tuesday and was working him in a field down the road. So she put my saddle on Koda, which she fits but isn't real experienced with, and her horses bit and head stall on. We've talked about changing Koda's headstall over to one similar so I guess she wanted to try it out.

She gets him to the field and is doing circles with him when apparently he started bucking and she lost all head control over him. Now she's rode out horses bucking before but always in her saddle where she can grab the horn, my saddle is an Aussie and has no horn. Off she flies and Koda ran home. She followed him, and made him go back and work but she is still hurting today. I can't believe he did that! He's done a few mini-bucks with me but never what she described! She says she's okay and has had worse but I still feel bad. She says she's gonna work him again tomorrow while I'm moving but is gonna do a LOT of ground work first before getting on this time and use his bit and headstall and her saddle.

Im glad your friend is ok. Sounds like she has grits and is ready to take him on. That is good though, for her, him and you. Hope all goes well on her next ride.

Went and saw M on my lunch break and she's doing okay. Has a bit of a bruise on her lower back but moving around okay.

Oh wow....glad she is OK. But, if Koda doesn't normally buck like that... could it be from a different riding style than what he is used to maybe? Or could she maybe have cinched him up to tight by accident...? I guess if my horse had never bucked like that before, and someone else got on and rode and that happened, I'd want to find out why.....just to be on the safe side.... to keep your horse and your friend both safe... She's brave....me, I wouldn't want to get back on....lol.....but then I have become a bit more chicken in my old age.... ;)

Wow. I hope your friend is okay. Takes alot of courage to get right back on.

I really think that he just wasn't in the mood to work and her different riding style prob didn't help. Plus she has a habit of forgetting that he's not neck rein trained and that gives him the time and opportunity to get away from you. Especially when she is cantering/galloping him on the loose rein he doesn't feel any guidence and will just go off his own direction. Then there's the fact that as much trouble as he's been known to give me he gives everyone else at least twice as much. He really likes M but he knows she's not his rider.

That's true.....a lot of horses just know when the new rider isn't quite like their owner....lol....and they'll try all kinds of new things.
