You guys are going to hate me....I forgot my actual camera. But I did get pics, they're just crappy quality since I took them with my phone. So long as we don't get a snowstorm tomorrow (like is being forecasted...grrrr), I'll be out to see how he's settling in and WILL remember my dang camera....LOL.

Went out to the old barn, packed up all my tack - gave the barn owner a letter and TSC giftcard, which she was really appreciative of. :) Talked to my trainer...got a heads up on a REALLY well paying horsey job that sounds like a shoe-in because she's friends with the barn owner and he said he's looking forward to hearing from me! Woot....it's a little further away than I want in relation to where I'll be living and where Rebel is boarded, but....it'll pay nicely, so I'm going to call the guy tomorrow.

Anyway, so the new BM showed up with her lovely trailer. Rebel walked right up onto the ramp...just a bit of hesitation, but I think that was because the other horses on the property were excited and acting up, and he could see his BFF...who was one of the worst offenders. :nono: All in all, he loaded great. It was only after I walked off the trailer and he realized he was all alone that he started pawing and making a racket. BUT, we made it to the new place without incident. :)

And now pics...

Hitting the road!

Unloading....lots of new sights, smells, and horses to take in. Goober unloaded crooked off the ramp... His face was priceless. It was like, "OMG....MOM....don't freak out, but THERE ARE HORSES HERE...."

We put him in the indoor arena to relax and take it all in. Of course, it took about 45min before he was quieting down....poor guy was a frothy mess by the time he was all tuckered out and ready to get in his stall. :( And me, being a worried mom....and never having gone through this before....didn't know what to make of it. I don't know if his reaction was normal or not, but I can't imagine it was too ABnormal...

Making friends with the BM's dog....the most adorable little tank of a Boston Terrier you will ever see...

I don't know about this place, mom....

Trot trot trot...

Some cookies finally calmed him down. It was so funny. Whenever I give him a treat, I ask him if he wants cookies. "Does Rebel want cookies?" He know what it means now, so when I said that, he stopped fretting for a minute, came over to me and did his cute little beggy face...lol. He's a drama queen.

And finally, some well deserved hay! :)

I hope he settles in ok. About how long do you guys think it will take? He settled in quickly at the old barn, but I think part of that was because he was in such poor shape. He's fitter now, so I imagine the process might be a little different...but I don't know.

Cross your fingers that it doesn't SNOW tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!

Woo hoo! I'm so glad things went well. And we would NEVER complain about phone pics.. that's all I ever get anymore, lol, and besides- anything's better than none at all! I cracked up at the 'mom' comment when Rebel unloaded! And I bet he'll be settled down within several days at most. Best to get him out walking around the grounds so everything's not a mystery for long! Good luck and post more pics soon. :D

Aww, poor guy!! It's hard moving to a new place. But good practice for shows!! In the beginning (years and years ago) It would take Sterling about a month to get totally normal again at a barn, but by the time we left college and all our showing behind it took less than 12 hours. .. Just be patient with him and know he will go back to normal!

Would you guys suggest holding off on working him for a week or so to let him get adjusted? I'm going to go out in a bit and groom him, maybe walk him around the place....but I don't want to push him too much. He's had a big last couple days between having his mane pulled, getting wormed and vaccinated, and now moving.

Look like such a nice place, and I like how the stall is more open with the mesh/grillwork.

I guess if he wasn't overly-nervous and not wound-up after the move.....heck I'd ride him. But you know him better than we do. The last two horses I had were real calm about moving anywhere, so I rode them and worked them right away. The mare I have now is a bit more nervous, so I give her a little time to settle in.....I just sort of play it by ear and see how they do.

Thanks Remali. Yeah, he was REALLY worked up last night...we'll see how he's acting today I guess. :)

We had some real stinkers about moving when we brought in our Colt Training horses to college...one mare we went to pick up and that was a several HOUR ordeal to get her(she was a 45 min. drive away) that I'll never forget...and even she settled in after a couple of days(we took her from where she was born and lived in same paddock her whole life for 5-6 years...can't remember how old she was)

my own small herd has always adjusted well with moves, but at the same time, they usually moved with one of their other buddies. The only time I gave one of my horses a week off after moving was when I took Gypsy and Sadie up to the Boy Scout camp my last year there...Gypsy was, imo, going through a mental breakdown due to some treatment she had received by someone. So I just tossed her out in the field for a week, didn't touch her all of staff week...and by the middle of our first camper week, I just pulled her out, tacked her up, and hopped up....she was soooo relaxed...the most relaxed I'd ever seen her and was a star on the trails for being a greenie(only one we had that would lead out the rides) and I vowed that she wouldn't be going back to where she had been.

looks like a SUPER nice place..can't wait to see more pics of the Rebel-man enjoying himself there...I bet he fits in really quickly once he realizes you haven't abandoned him and he is still getting food and water and there are more horses to be buddy buddy with :D

TRH.....I think you need to come up for a visit sometime in the near future.

EQUINE AFFAIR THIS WEEK. No excuses. You're being kidnapped after the festivities to come see Rebel. Mwahahahahahaha!!!!

They're neat aren't they. Very open and light inside. Makes it easy to see in and see what's happening in there. ~makes note~

Personally, I'd work him. That's what normal life is, that's what he needs to adjust to.

Tired horses sleep better. :) Plus, if you're going to go to rides or shows, he needs to come out of the trailer and adjust and be ready to work.

he used to be a racehorse too, right? I'm betting he's used to being trailered somewhere and then having to "work"(race)

Yeah, WB it must be really bright in there. Would be awesome for stall cleaning. I know at the barn I work at, when it's rainy or cloudy the stalls get mighty dark and it's hard to find all the horse apples buried in there. :D

I would work him too for all of those reasons.

Glad you made it okay :)
I didn't work Billy for probably 3-4 days. I led him around the arena, around the barn and around the property. I groomed him. I generally gave him a couple of days to take in his new home. He made friends with two horses over the wall of his stable, then after a few days I turned him out with them (quarentine period first). He seemed to get used to it fine, Billy was full of beans when he first came as your's sounds. He was just excited to be in a new place, he soon settled down :)

ETA: the couple of days I didn't work Billy for were his ''normal'' days off. Same days every week and that's when I moved him. I'd try and keep this ''normal''. Moving is one change, the routine he knows and is used to will be his comfort blanket.

Thanks guys! Yeah the stalls are wonddeerrfffuuuulllllll. I'm so in love with the place. Today is a really gloomy, rainy, yucky day but the barn aisle was perfectly light and bright!

Rebel ate his breakfast just fine and seemed fairly content when I showed up. Of course he got excited that mom was there, because as soon as I walked away from his stall to get my brushes to groom him, he started carrying on and crying for me. LOL.

I have pics and a video....I longed him. :) He did well and I have such great news that I'll share for that thread. But I'm resizing and uploading everything right now so....hold on for a bit and the new thread will be up soon! :D I'm so proud of my boy!
