Archery season started a couple of weeks ago, and the deer are taking refuge in the little tract of woods on our property. Today I saw the doe who had a fawn this summer--he's a cute little critter. But I saw another doe with a pair of friends who looked to be...oh I don't know...75 to 80% of her size. Could this be the doe who had a pair of fawns last year, or would those fawns be long gone as adults and this is just a mismatched trio?

They're probably last years fawns... yearlings.
Here's a doe with new babies and last year's baby.

hee hee--try again!
That's cool, though, if I'm seeing last year's fawns!

Cool.... I uploaded the attachment, and by clicking the thumbnail and selecting the properties of the popup, I can embed it in the post full size - or at least, the more reasonable full size it sized it down to. :)

Thanks, WB--I'm tickled pink that I saw 2 different families, and last year's fawns survived! I saw three deer running across a field last winter 2 weeks after the hunting season ended (how do they know?), and I bet it was the doe and her twins. Now I'm seeing them again today! I had my camera, and left it in the car! The deer are really starting to accept the riders--you circle around in our woods, and the second time I saw doe and youngest fawn, she was actually lying down and chewing her cud at the edge of woods/corn field, with baby looking on--obviously not worried about me and Arrow at all! Too bad I've got no pics! Ah well, I've got a wonderful memory.

We had a ton of deer at my mom and dad's house....and we'd see the different "families", we could sort of recognize certain does and their fawns, and much of the time the yearlings were always there too....they seemed like a close-knit family oriented group. They are so fun to watch. After a rain and the large puddle that would form down in our yard, the fawns would run and play in the water, is was adorable.
Beautiful photo, they're so pretty!

We're in deer country, when I had my old horse and used to feed them they were like dogs, they'd be knocking on the door wanting me to get out there with their food!
Ours have this yrs babies and last yrs with them, they all sort of hang together. It's nothing to look out and see 30 or more in our yard. I love them but they make it hard to have any flowers without fences around them. I kill flowers any way so I'd rather have the deer.
I love that photo! We have 5 or 6 plus babies running around here.

I used to have a lot of white-tailed deer in my yard- we used to put corn out for them, as well as for the coons. Unfortuantely my neighbor built his house a few years ago, and he has dogs. So much for the deer!

Just to be clear, that's a pic WB posted! I'm going to try to get pics this weekend, probably won't happen (planning these things never works), but it was cool seeing them and recognizing old friends, anyway.:)

do they still have their spots - almost faded but still there? The youngin's will sometimes hang out with Mom until the new batch is born.

There was one doe with a small one, but no spots--it was earlier this year. The other doe looked like it had just the two yearlings, no newer fawn.
