What kinds of careers can you get working in the horse health field? Excluding veterinarians/vet techs. I would love to do something working with a horse's diet/exercise. My backup option is vet tech, which would be a great job and my vet has already offered to help me get into a good program and even ride along with her, but I'm ultimately interested in diet and nutrition if it's even possible to have a job just focusing on that mainly.... plus I'd prefer to make more than $20k a year. :D

I don't know if this belongs in the non-horsey section or here.
Sorry if you need to move it WB :D

Here's a nice little list on my university's website...Career Opportunities for Equestrian Studies majors, lol.

http://www.findlay.edu/academics/colleges/cosc/academicprograms/undergraduate/EQST/programinfo/careeropportunities.htm

There are a few health/nutrition-related ones on there :)

lol, zoel! Lemme know if you have any questions. Also, try searching "findlay" (the correct spelling) on the forum or "findley"...The person who started the thread about it spelled it wrong, I think ;) hehe. I answered a whole bunch of people's questions on that thread.

I'd love to go there, but I think Ohio is too far for me. :( I don't want to go too far away from home so I won't have to move my horses because I can't afford board on 4 horses.

Oh, PS I started training Turkey yesterday :D

Oooh, yeah? How did that go? That is so exciting! In the fall, I'll be getting a fresh start out at the barn :) I'll be getting another unbroke and hopefully getting my associate's degree next year :D

And there are lots of scholarship opportunities here ;) I would totally not be able to go here if it weren't for that...I still can't really afford it, even with the scholarships, though...I'm gonna be paying this stuff off FOREVER.

What are their requirements to get in? I don't think I saw it on the page.... Maybe I'm not looking hard enough. It sure sounds like a great school, though. Since you first started posting about it a long time ago I was like "gahhhh!! I want go there!!"

Turkey was great :)

I free lunged him a little around the arena to see what he was going to be like (while it was being watered so the sprinkler was going everywhere ), then I got him to lunge walk/trot both directions. I put him on the line and asked him ever so gently to move away from me and he took off galloping around me but was pretty easy to get back to a walk. He's a really good horse. Very eager to learn. But I swear he has ADD, he is constantly distracted and is looking at everything all the time. I'm going to work with him again tomorrow and see if we can accomplish something more. I'll also remember my camera so everyone can meet him. He's such a ham. Yesterday was just a "test drive" to see how he functions. He's going to be really fun to train though. I think I'm going to start a "Turkey Training Diary" thread. :D

Another thing to think about is being a Veterinary Pharm. Rep. My cousin works for Abbot, so he spends all day visity vet offices, talking with vets, playing with the animals, and ultimatly selling them vet products. He really loves his job, and makes good money at it!

AU, that doesn't really sound like something I'd be interested in. Thanks for the suggestion though. I want to work more hands on directly with horses.

zoel, what about looking into equine chiropractic stuff? I really don't know anything about it yet, but it's something I'm going to seriously consider getting into after I graduate! It's VERY "hands on" and I think it's super interesting. It was really eye-opening for me when we had a chiropractor come to school and he fixed all these problems people had with the horses they were training...from bucking/back pain to stiffness in one direction and difficulty bending or picking up leads...It was awwwesome! And I thought...jeez. If this guy had never come, these horses would still be in pain and we wouldn't even know it, let alone how to fix it! I think I would love that job :)

You should definitely start a thread about Turkey! I think I might do that for my unbroke next semester...:) How old is he? That ADD is pretty typical with young ones I've found :D I'm excited to see pictures!

I was thinking about chiropractic stuff. I actually just (like minutes ago) saw someones thread on it and I was like hmmmm.... I don't know much about it either, like what it takes to get certified and everything. It would be fun, though. I'll look into it.

I tihnk I may have accidentally denied your msn request. I remember getting it one time and I thought I said accept but I never got you on my list....

Oooh and Turkey's 7.

Oh, so he has no excuse for the ADD! :D Silly horse, lol. How did he end up unbroke at seven? :O

My yahoo is ohthunderbelle@yahoo.com...I think you can add me to your MSN anyway, right? :) Give it another try!

We should both try to find out what we can about becoming a chiropractor and then pool our information :D
