Remington, for the first 16 months of his life, has been relatively neglected. His former owner never worked with him on picking up his feet and his hooves have never been trimmed. I've been working on this with him the past couple of weeks and I can pick his feet out with no problem now, he's such a smart little boy! Well, the farrier will be at the barn tomorrow so I'm going to have Remy's feet trimmed while he's here. I hope he's a good boy for the farrier! It's only been the past two weeks that he has had consistent handling. He's a quick learner but still, I worry that maybe he isn't quite ready yet. Good thing my farrier is very patient (at least he pretends to be because I'm standing right there, lol). Well, wish me, Remy and the farrier luck tomorrow!

Hope all goes well. Just try to keep it positive and short. Its good to have a patient farrier. I LOVE my farrier. He is sooooo patient and never gets physical with a horse( I have one who was. He didn't stay long)

I definitely want before and after pictures for myself so I'll post them up here for everyone to see. Depending on how the farrier visit and the rest of the day goes (don't want to overload him) Remy may get his first bath tomorrow also so I must have my camera on hand!

My farrier is Leon, I can never remember his last name! Who do you use? We have a lot of good farriers in town. There are only 2 that I have really heard bad things about and even they have their customers that love them.

Good luck with Remy.....I am glad he is now getting proper care and socialization. Many of the problem older horses were treated like this when they were young. Thanks for giving him a fighting chance.

Well, the farrier didn't show up., he's coming next weekend. That's ok, Remy had a big day anyway. Instead of having a his feet trimmed we worked on trailer loading and he put his front feet in the trailer today, woohoo! Plus, he got his first bath and got his mane and tail all braided up. Here are pics of the pretty clean boy.
I'm all wet mom!

Well dangit on the farrier but that's great you were still able to make progress otherwise! He sounds willing to cooperate - I think he knows what you've done for him & is grateful ;). Can't wait to see how the farrier works out!

Well, Remington got his feet trimmed today for the first time. I didn't get pictures because I didn't know the farrier was going to be there today, he was supposed to come yesterday and told me he would come next weekend. I got to the barn around 11:30 just as he was finishing up. My cousin was there and said that Remy was a perfect angel while his feet were trimmed. They said that he tried to pull his left hind away while it was being trimmed but the farrier didn't let go so he stopped and stood still the rest of the time. I wish they would have called me, I would have liked to have been there and got pictures. Oh well, I guess the two men just didn't understand why that would be a big deal to me. I am super happy that Remy was such a good boy though! I guess the past two weeks of time I've spent with him have paid off.:)
