My little Pinto Foal is eating grain....funny but yesterday we had the other horses feed buckets in the wheel barrow and we left them in her pasture while we tied the other five up (it is easier to feed them that way), anyway we looked up and she was helping herself to the top bucket of food. We put it down for her and she tucked right in and finished every little bit. Tonight we fixed her her own bucket and she tucked right in again....so it seems she feels comfortable eating when the others eat. I tried her alone this morning and she sniffed it and moved away! We will try her for a few days feeding her with the others and then see if we can get her to eat while we hold the bucket. We can get much closer to her now, in fact she reached out to sniff my hand when I held it out to her, palm down. A big break through.:)
Yesterday was pick up poop day in the pasture:p and I was in with her for a couple of hours picking up piles (boy can she poop!)She did not seem afraid of the small tractor and cart at all, She did not move away when I came close to her.
We have noticed that she watches closely when we halter the other horses and when we touch and talk to them. She really seems interested in what we do with the others ....maybe she will learn that we will not hurt her from watching?
I hope that Sunday I can work with her, we have to take the Billy Goat to the Auction tomorrow, then I have to close up the pool. I want to be able to give her plenty of my time!
Anyway, I feel as if a little progress has been made, I did not have to go buy sweet feed for her and she loves hay...she seems to be filling out a little, her ribs do not show quite so much...The day I can finally brush her and clean her up will be very special to me!
Happy Day,
Ann:)
