Very. Unbelievably scary and sad scene I'm sure.

That many horses on a trailer I wonder if they weren't slaughter bound in the first place.

I was wondering the same thing WB. I hope not. And if so, I hope the ones who helped rescue them, really rescue them.
Sad, poor horses.

Poor horses. I couldn't imagine that many horses on one trailer.

Well, they need better reporters! They should have said where the truck was headed or why there were that many in there. Maybe they were headed to slaughter and that's why they didn't say anything about it? I don't know if they want the bad press about not only horses going to slaughter but how they get into a devastating accident on the way to being killed. Who packs that many horses into a truck other then to take them to slaughter?

I sure hope it wasn't a PMU truck coming down the the USA to deliver to adopters!! Muffin is a PMU and he came down on a big truck full of horses. That would just kill me if I found out he died on his way home!!!

Eight horses died or had to be euthanized after a traffic accident on Deerfoot Trail this morning.

A 50-foot transport trailer was traveling on Deerfoot trail just north of Seton Blvd. when it tipped over, and rolled into the ditch.

There were about 44 horses in the truck.

The horses were being transported to a feedlot when the crash occurred.

According to this other article I found at http://660news.com/news/local/article.jsp?content=20081017_151332_19756 the horses were on the way to a feedlot. What a terribly sad day for all those poor animals. :(

Yea, I agree with WB.. The article did not say where the horses were headed. It flipped because of the balance..and a turn and low spot in the road....I would guess.

Sad...

I suppose it could be a blessing in disguise? :-/ They were put down instead of being killed at the slaughter pen. Just a thought?
