I was so mad today! I put my horse away and was standing outside her stall, and someone a few crosstie sets up was tacking up their horse. Well they had put on one of those things that keeps their head down(what are those things called again?) and did it way to tight, the horse paniced and started backing and I didn't have time to move so she stepped on my foot and pinned me right up agaisnt the wall (this horses butt is higher than my head). Everybody except the owner of the horse and the person who was tacking her up asked if I was okay. They just caught the horse and walked into the arena, acting like nothing even happened.:soapbox:

Ouch! Sorry they were so rude. The piece of tack is called a tie-down where we live, but I think the more proper name is standing martingale.

I'm with Carla - I'd get all up in their koolaid. ;) I hope your foot feels better.

Wow. It's just awful how inconsiderate some people are. I hope you're okay.

Ditto here JackieB, it's a tiedown.
I hope your foot is okay! Some people have no common curtesy for anyone but themselves, and could careless about anyone but "I". Those are the people I want to jerk a knot in.
Hope your foot gets to feeling better. :grouphug:

I would have been very upset. Good for you for keeping your cool.
At the position I am at here, I oversee all of the kids and lesson students etc.. and I don't allow that kind of behavior or they're out the door. It's sad things like that can happen and people are so insensitive.
I guess I'm trying to grow up these girls with respect for each other and manners. You know, LIFE SKILLS.
I wish more BOs/managers/instructors enforced the same rules.

So I feel a bit better because somebody else that was there said that they wanted to make sure I was okay but didn't get a chance to catch me before I left, but I don't get why they didn't ask when I was standing there watching people ride right next to them

My mom offered to take me to the doctor to see if it is broken, but I wanted to ask if you guys think it is worth it because there isnt much they can do is there?

Go to the doc!! They can give you something for pain at the very least!! Besides if it is broken the quicker get it set the quicker it will get better. And yes if one of the main bones in your foot is broken they'll give you some sort of wrap or cast. Only your small toes would not be set if they were broken.

Oh and one more question... Why didn't you correct the horse before it was on top of you?? I would have smacked that horse on the butt!! :D I do NOT like horses that get in MY space. :p

I didn't really see it coming and I was in the wall and then it was over before I really had time to react, the horse was running backwards. I think I pushed the horses butt over but I don't even remember, the horse kinda just turned and kept going after hitting me.
And I'm 99% sure nothing in the foot is broken, because it's just the pinky toe that hurts. Would they give me one of those little boots or anything so I can stop walking on the side of my foot?

Mom decided she is going to call and ask the doc if they think I should come in to get it checked.
Hopefully I don't get a "horses are dangerous" lecture again like I did when I got stitches

Just remember, revenge is best served cold.
Ride your horse into them next time you see them, and ask who they are. ;)

Smacking a horse's hindend when they're backing toward you in a paniced fashion?! Sounds like a good way to get kicked to me.

Geeze I would have been mad too! How inconsiderate. I'm glad you weren't hurt worse and hopefully the doc will be able to help you with the pain.
Hopefully I don't get a "horses are dangerous" lecture again like I did when I got stitches
If he does then explain it is actually the people who are dangerous, lol.

Wow, how rude. Im with Carla, do we need to come and get in that girls face?
I sure hope you are ok((HUGS))
Sounds like a tie down or standing martingale was used. Direct pressure from head to chest.
I copied this information. Does that help with which one it was???
The standing martingale (also known as a head check)[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martingale_%28tack%29#cite_note-PCA-0) has a single strap which is attached to the girth, passes between the horse's front legs and is fixed to the back of the noseband. To prevent it from catching on other objects, it also has a neck strap. A variation is attached to a breastplate (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breastplate_%28tack%29) in lieu of a neck strap. When correctly fitted it should be possible to push the martingale strap up to touch the horse's throatlatch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equine_anatomy).
A variation of the standing martingale, called a tiedown, is seen almost exclusively in the western riding (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_riding) disciplines. A tiedown is adjusted much shorter than a standing martingale and is intended primarily to prevent the horse from flipping its head up when asked to abruptly stop or turn in speed events. It consists of an adjustable strap, one end which attaches to the horse's breastplate and the other which attaches to a noseband (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noseband) on the bridle. The noseband can be of leather, but may also be of lariat rope, or even plastic-covered cable, which can make the western tiedown considerably harsher than the English-style standing martingale.

Sounds like a tiedown, the horse is a dressage horse.

Doctor doesn't think I need to go in today, because there isn't much they will do even if it is broken.
If it is bad tomarrow they can check it and give me an air cast but thats about it.

Aww that sucks, some people can be so rude. I would have given them an earful. Good for you for keeping your cool though:). I'd go to the doc. I'v broken my foot before and it HURTS! I was put in a cast for three weeks then in a boot/splint thingy for another two.

OH MY GOODNESS ME! What a couple of cheeky sods! If that were me I would have been AFTER them like goodness alone knows what. I hope nothing serious comes of that foot >.< and if it does guess who you should ask to pay the bill!!
Ugh, that's disgusting! I'm getting all wound up just sitting here thinking about it!

Gotcha about not seeing it coming. ;)
Shouldn't they be approached and asked to pay medical expenses if there is a real injury? That was just a question towards anyone...

Yeah, I thought about that, but if I thought I was about to get flattened against the wall I might risk getting kicked vs. dying under a big horsey butt. :D
