I found out tonight that a girl who I used to ride with had to put her horse down. She just got this horse a few months ago and was doing great showing and loved her. There was a freak accident at her barn and the horse cut threw her two of her main tendons and her tendon sheath on her right front and the injury was just to severe to do anything. This was just such an eye opener and you never know what will happen one day, so cherish every moment you have

I've learned that lesson the hard way. I am so sorry for your friend. It's not easy to loose a horse.

I'm very sorry for your friend, Jacki. I cherished some time with Buster just a couple of hours ago. Very good advice.

Same exact thing happened to my pony. Freak accident that lead to severed tendons. It's crazy how one minute your horse is there with what seems like such a bright future and years of trails ahead of him and everything is just beginning..... then the next minute he's gone. :( It really made realize how much I love my horses and made me cherish them even more. I don't know what I would do if I had to go through that again. Every night when I put the horses up I give each one a hug and a kiss and tell them how much I love them. Maybe I'm crazy, but my horses are my world and I don't know what I'd do if I lost one again.

I'm really sorry for your friend.

Aw, so sorry for your friend. It is so hard to lose an animal friend. And you are right, we should always take the time to let those we love- animal or human- know that they are loved and cherished.

How true,, you do never know.. I hug them everytime I see them. I pray they are standing there healthy and unharmed every morning when I go out to feed them. I am so sorry for your friend's loss.:( It is sooo hard when you loose any pet, or human. So remember to hug them all :)

Something like that happened at my old barn. My friend, who I go to school with and she is a junior, only had her horse for about 7 months and then the mare colliced(spelling?).

It was SO sad...it was too bad that there was nothing they could do! :(
I felt so bad because I got my horse about 6 months before she gots hers,
and losing Angel that quickly would have been awefulllllllll!! :(

So sorry for your friend's loss! I think about the fact that I need to spend as much time with Gypsy as I can every day! Of course, with her being thirty, it's understandable. However, it's an eye opener to realize that anyone could go out to see their horse, and on any given day, it could be the last.

After the loss of Ladybird, I always make sure we love on ALL the horses when we go out there, even if we don't ride. My kids get mad at me, because they are in the truck waiting to leave and I say "wait, I want to give everyone hugs again before we leave."

I'm sorry about your friend. I know the pain she is going through.. :(

That is hard. I have not yet lost a horse. I have lost my cat, Fluffy (which was my alarm clock) and my dog Tanna. They were very dear to me. But when I am out there with my horses I dont just throw them food. I make sure they get a hug.
