Gradually is how its done. Start with say 1/4 of the new feed, then after a couple days move up. Should take a full 7 or more days for a full change over. Slow is good. A horse cant handle a feed change, they can colic.
We dont want your baby sick.

Thanks Vick...
No..and you know he did colic 2 times in 2 months at the Boarding Stables.
I only give a handfull of feed in the AM and the PM...Of course that will change with the new feed...
Do I still give the same amount but add in just a bit of the new feed for 7 days...then start giving more of the new feed gradually until I get to about 1lb for each horse of feed daily? (which is what I will be feeding)

Say you feed a cup. You would feed 1/4 cup of the new and 3/4 of the feed your using now. Then gradually feed 1/2 cup of each, then 3/4 cup of the new and 1/4 cup of the current. Id say, do each for at least 4 or 5 feedings, that would be 2 days, no less. I usually feed 5 feedings, 2 1/2 days per change.

Yep, the stable had switched all the horses over to it, so I kept Buck on it and gradually reduced him down to just a handful and of course, we give it to "fat Mira"... I ordered a grazzing muzzle for Mira and changing the feed for both horses!!!
