This saddle is a JV by Union Hill. It's in really good condition, and only a few years old but looks brand new...except...a barn kitty must have sat on it when I forgot to put the cover on it because it has a few scratches on the cantle. They are small scratches, and aren't as noticable when I oil the saddle. Ofcourse when your rear is in the saddle you can't see them at all. Nothing else is wrong with the saddle. It's size 16.5. I want to sell it but how much would the cat scratches make it depreciate in value? I bought it new for $750. Any idea what I should try to sell it for? I'm really bummed out about the scratches on the cantle.

Oh and the reason I am thinking of selling it is because I plan to focus on Dressage.

Here is a pic of the saddle I took last year when I was trying to see how it fit my old paint. I don't have this horse anymore, and I know the saddle didn't fit his wide back well...

Looks nice. Did you check to see what they're going for on ebay??

Looks like a very nice saddle.....I would check around online to see what a similar saddle, of the same brand, is selling for. Yours is in really great condition so you should be able to get a fairly decent price for it I would think.

ETA: I found one like it online for $400, but that is just one....

Thanks guys! It is in really good condition, but what about the cat scratches on the cantle? Do you think that will lower it's value alot?

We had a Dominus which we boght new for $1400. When we sold it, it was in excellent condition except for some teeth marks when Al decided to try to crib on it! We ended up getting $800. Hope this helps.

I wouldn't think scratches would lower the value too much as long as they are pretty small and aren't deep enough to allow moisture to get into the flocking. I'd say you could ask $600 OBO. It's a nice looking saddle :)

I'd like to help you but I dont know squat about english tack I do know that I sold a well used circle y roping saddle with beeg ugly scratches on it for about 3/4 th's of what i paid for it, so I would'nt imagine that a few small blemishes that in no way affect its function will have a great deal of impact on resale value just my 2 cents..Kevin

Is it a Masters JV saddle at Union Hill.
If it is Ive seen 2 different prices.
One at 999.00 and one at 399.00
Big difference.

Thank you for the replies everyone! :)

I guess I will head out to the barn today and take some pics of it for a sale ad.

Vick: Yes it is a Masters JV by Union Hill. I bought it new for around $750 (if I remember right).

I would think $400-500 if you put leathers and irons with it. Saddles are selling better right now, since riding season is back in full swing for most people.

when you advertise it, use Tacktrader.com for at least one of the adverts. I sold my Wintec Isabell on there for $700 in less than a week.

I always check tacktrader.com, horsetopia.com, craigslist.org and, of course, ebay.
