Tomorrow I have a dentist appointment with the dental school nearby. My good friend wiggled me in ahead of the 4 month  waiting list.
Some of you know I am terrified of the dentist. I tend to hyperventalate(sp?) and freak out. My sister is driving me and will be there for my freak outs.
I am starting to get shaking and sick to my stomach.. headaches and tummy aches from the nerves. I can not STAND the sound of metal on teeth *shivers* or the thought of someone elses fingers in my mouth. *shudders*
So tomorrow send calming soothing vibes my way. Hopefully I won't be accidentally smacking any dentists with my flailing arms or giving myself an asthma attack.
*sigh*
*deep breathe*
:o
I hope your appointment goods amazingly well!

All will be fine and in the end you will have the results you want. Just keep breathing- Of course if you pass out then you wont be as stressed.

i'm the exact same way about needles. Try doing something else to not think about it. I hate the dentist too. After having 14 cavaities and a root canal (genetics, I brush my teeth plenty) they aren't my favorite person. Can you take something to make yourself drowsy? lol, or maybe the dentist will gas you. I wish mine woulda done that but I wasn't so lucky.
You'll be ok. :)

Ask if they can sedate you perhaps? Or at least give you some of the "happy gas" that dentists use?
I know what you mean, I am really scared of dentists now....altho I never used to be, but after two bad experiences, now I'm terrified and I put off going to the dentist.
Let us know how it goes.

Sounds like your dentist needs to use gas instead. I dont like needles either, and I usually find something to talk about(unless its the dentist...lol)when they are going in me.
Hope all goes well((HUGS))

I know exactly how you feel. I had a horrible dentist for years when I was younger so now, no matter what I'm in for (even just a simple cleaning), I have serious panic attacks. I don't flail or anything, but I completely freeze up, can't breathe, tense all over. The dentist I'm with now is soooo awesome though (and pretty good looking too ;)) and talks to me the whole time to keep me calm.
I'm like Kzeiger, bad teeth run in the family. I brush/floss/fluoride mouthwash 3x a day and it doesn't matter a bit. I've had so many cavities filled that I actually have a slight immunity to the novacaine and it takes about 3-4x the normal amount for me. Getting the shot is actually, in a kind of messed up way, my favorite part. I have no problem telling them I need another one. I hardly even feel it, just a pinch, a little ache and then numb.
My dentist lets me bring my iPod and listen to music and he doesn't care how loud I turn it up. I just blast music in my ears so I can't hear the drill as much. It really helps a lot.
Try to relax, it will be over soon and you will be so relieved when they get finished, try to focus on that. I hate going to the dentist too, I panic and feel like I'm going to jump out of the chair any second, but I try to focus on the time when I'm walking out the door it makes me feel a little better.

I'm back... I'm alive :D
It wasn't too bad... only had one minor break down when she was examining my gums. I was there fro 4 hours, fullx-rays, exam and impressions made.
I have horrible teeth... looks like over th course of the next year I will be investing over $3,000 into repairing my smile. *shudder* But this dentist was great, she was patient and calming, she made jokes and helped me relax by "yelling" at her assistant whom is a very very good friend of mine. It went very well.
I am exhausted however, came home and laid in bed for awhile to try an recover. Just popped on here to let you'll know I made it out alive and without injuring anyone.
I go back in two weeks.

Glad all went well. I have a dentist phobia too, thankfully ours is really nice and doesn't mind that I leave nail prints in her chair! I like her so much but I get sick even thinking of going there and I've been there enough I just get nervous. Hopefully your next visit will be easier since you know the dentist now.
