So my sister is graduating on Sunday from College so we'll be driving 6 hours over there on friday. I got a dress for graduation yesterday and its slightly above the knee and has spaghetti straps, the thing is i'm like a ghost (darn red hair). I have some freckles on my arms and chest but my shoulders and legs are paper white... So I don't know if I should try to get a little color on them before then or just look sickly white :p

I've been using Jergens lately and I LOVE thee results. xD
What color is the dress?

ETA: I was using this like $35 a tube self tanner my aunt bought but seriously, I like the results I'm getting with Jergens 10000x better lmao.

The dress is lots of different colors, its hard to explain it maybe I will get a picture of it.
But it has white, yellow, pink, green, orange, red, black... lol

A fake tan on red hair is going to look really odd.. you'll be like a tomato.. I know first hand. Keep it pale. Highlight it with a dramatic eye make up that compliments your eyes and a foundation and blush for your skin tone.

As a mom to three redheads who have tried lots of tanning and non-tanning options... I'd stick with your own porcelin complexion. One of my daughters has some redness on her forehead, cheeks and chin and she finally went with a good foundation from a higher end department store. She got "wow" results.

Oldest daughter's, after she had children, hair became browner and now tans. She looks fine, but who'da thunk it?

Some of the better fake tanning lotions work really well. I use them a lot now.....I used to sit out in the sun years ago and go to the tanning place, until a friend of mine was diagnosed with malignant melanoma.....no way would I get a "real" tan now or go to a tanning bed. The fake stuff nowadays looks great, if you get the good stuff. :)

I would go really dark fake that because that would be impossible for me lol :D
I do wear makeup so we'll see if we can play up the eyes a bit

I see what you are saying. :p If you go with Jergens, just go with the lighest one...it's called "natural glow" and really it just gives ya a nice glow...by no means is it tan, just looks like...yeah a glow haha, I'll stop repeating myself now. xD

I agree with the Jergens. I also fall into the pale catagory lol. I'm Italian and I have naturally dark brown hair (although I dye it light blonde). You'd think I would've gotten that nice dark skin but nooooooooo. :p

I used to go tanning at the salon back when I was in high school, then I did all the really fake looking fake tan stuff for a while lol, I finally am to the point where I am just going to be happy with what I got. So, I go for that little glow with Jergens like Cloe said. I think tans look nice but alot of girls go way overboard and it's just so fake looking. Plus it's just not worth the health risk.

I used to use the Jergens stuff, but I hate the smell of it... it smells like chemicals. :puke:
I can't remember the name of the stuff I use, I'll have to go look in my bathroom! lol But I love it. It doesn't make you orange either. I don't know how you feel about Tanning Bed's but you could also go in one of those for a bit to get that glow...

Caitlin, didn't you just rant about self tanner a little while ago? LOL

I'm also a redhead, I'd just stay pale. :) I don't like fake tans on anyone anyway though.

well at the risk of being flogged, i'll admit to being a natural red head who actually tans! *ducks*

But being a horse rider I get evil farmers tans. So to keep up with my tan arms I use jergens on the rest of my body!

Go with your paleness, but using the jergens can add just a nice glow to you!

Before events that require dresses I usually go and get a spray tan. I don't go to a regular tanning place with the machine because it always drips and looks crappy. I go to a skin care place where a lady air brushes you perfectly. It's awesome :) Lasts about a week and costs about $40 and it looks really nice. Kinda pricey so I only do it before important events....like the Bachelorette party this weekend :)

Aslo, I will vouch for the Jergens. It's called Jergen's natural Glow. I made a thread about it back on Horse.com about how much I love it :) It does have a smell to it, some people like it, some don't. It's kinda sweet vanilla-ish.

I think if you do decided to get a spray tan, get a good one. Be willing to spend the money and do some research on where to get it done. My friend got a spray tan for homecoming and she looked horrible. Totally orange and in her pictures it's VERY obvious that it was fake. I honestly think people with red hair and pale skin are really pretty. I think if you got too tan it would look kind of strange. Just my 2 cents.

Any tips/tricks dos/don'ts for this stuff? :)

Painted...Just really try to be even when rubbing it in. For hands and feet...don't use a bunch of lotion for them. I found that after I did my legs and had rubbed it in pretty well, just rubbing the excess down to my feet and ankles made the color look the most even once it showed. Same with your hands and wrists. After you do your arms then just rub the excess on the tops of your hands and wrists and then wash your palms. This stuff is not super dark right away (because your supposed to be able to use it as a daily lotion) so you can get away with not being super careful.
