So one of my clients asked me to pick up this giant tub called "Omegatin" for her filly. (Customer is always right)... After reading the can I decided, what they heck, I'll get one for my horses too. It seems to have a lot more to it than the plain old rice bran oil I was using for shiny coats. And it's reasonably priced (Actually cheaper in the long run than just the oil).

Heard of it? Remember I'm in Florida where hay, grain and supplements aren't optional... unless horses can live off sand and swamps lol

It is a flax based rice bran supplement I have seen AMAZING results with it ... heck with the 25lbs tub get the 50lb bags!!!

Great stuff but be prepared for your horses to GAIN weight :)

Oh geez.. that's all I need lol

Actually they work enough I think they'll be ok. At least Dena will.

I didn't know you could get 50 lb bags? I only saw the tub thing.

It is made by Kent ... so not sure you can get the 50's but it does come that way :)

It is 20% Crude Fat ..LOL

That stuff is AMAZING, FANTASTIC & AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! Remember though a little will go a long way in with it, especially for weight gain.

When I was running barrels hard I would use it as a way to keep weight on my horse and make sure they were getting everything the needed with being out in the pasture. A lot of rescues around here use it and really like what they get for a bang for their buck.

Nutrition novice here...is this something that can help a horse gain weight that won't make him/her 'hot'?

Peggy Sue

It shouldn't make them hot... the horses I know who have been on it only one has had issues but we think they were "feel" good silly not hot hard to handle silly

Thanks PS. When I first got Star, she was underweight so the BO just gave her extra flakes of alfalfa, which is what they fed at the stable. Once someone had commented to me "Oh, she's getting her alfalfa 'buzz' that's why she's high all the time". I asked my vet if that was the case and he said probably not; that was just her temperament, but I always wondered about that one comment.

Unfortunately, Gypsy would turn into the Goodyear Blimp on that stuff, lol!

Never heard of that stuff, but it looks good. Sorry to hijack here, but Would it help with Pandora's weight Peggy, or should she be kept just on the RB still without this?

Peggy Sue

it probably would be I wouldn't add or subtract anything just yet... give stuff time to work weight comes OFF fast and is slow to go back on

Alrighty, that's what I was thinking. She's looking better, but I don't know if it's the RB, more grass (since our grass it out alot better now) or both combined. Thank you! :)

Sterling and Mack have been on that. Cost was right and it seemed like it helped. Although now i've got Sterling so fat I'm either going to have to start riding. . .(lol) or cut back on her feed. And Mack is getting there. Even our hay guy (who isn't a horse person) mentioned how good he looks. . .

Thanks for all of the advice and responses.. I didn't meant abandon the thread.. I was dealing with a colic.

I've had them on it a week roughly and I'm already noticing the shine in their new coats that are coming through all the fuzz on some of my rescues. I am liking it so far.
