As most of you know, I have been trying to find a trainer to come and work with me and Booty at my house for quite a while now. I want someone to just give me a couple of lessons/refresher. I have called tack shops, gotten referrals, emailed quite a few as well. Well two weeks ago I FINALLY thought I had found someone. My farrier knows a lady that used to teach Western Pleasure and he talked to her about me just wanting a few lessons, etc. He called me, gave me her number and said that she said she would be able to help me out.

That was two weeks ago. I called and left a message and never heard back. :( I was really excited this time around too. What am I doing wrong that no one calls me back?

The good news is that slowly (VERY slowly) Booty and I are making some strides.

Well phooey - I do hope you hear, and she is better at lessons than she is at returning phone calls.

Thanks WB. I'm starting to think that it's just not meant to be and I'm meant to just learn along WITH Booty and help our bond. I dunno. We are doing really well in that dept. She now comes up to me in the pasture just by having me call for her. She respects me ALOT more and the last time I rode her I wasn't as fearful.

That stinks!!! Do you have any big barns in the area that might know someone? Good luck!!! It's hard to find horse professionals. Not sure if they just don't know how to advertise or what! I always search for things I want or need using the internet and it is next to impossible to find anything horse related (like trainers, barns, arenas) on the internet. It's like our industry hasn't really embraced technology!!

Not returning calls doesn't seem professional. I hope things work out for you.

I'm adding to the, 'I hope everything works out for you' group. But it does sound like you and Booty are doing well, that's great to hear!

That's for sure, it seems as though most of the stables around here haven't updated their websites (if they even have one) for like 4 years! I've found myself reverting back to the old-fashioned method of actually looking in a phone book, lol.

sure sounds like the 2 of you are doing just fine.....if some structure to your time together would help, why not try some of the parelli stuff...you don't have to invest big bucks just check the library.....and his web site is loaded with ideas...if the time comes and you want to purchase anything go to ebay first...i have the old level one with the take along lessons that get me motivated and feeling more confident that just the 2 of us are best...
i don't think your jinxed. maybe just in an area that doesn't have the best resources for a travelin' trainer...i have the same problem but it's probably best that we learn together with what i do know then havin' both of us tryin' to learn from a 3rd person....
when you need encouragement and support there's always this great forum!!

Aw man, that sucks. I was going to take lessons with one lady that lives a few blocks down from our barn but she wouldn't answer the phone to save her life! What was the point of having a trainer you can't get in touch with? Anyway, I hope you find a trainer soon!

Oh pooh!! How many times have you called? If just once...Call again. Maybe she has been out of town. You could call your Farrier again and see what is up with this lady.

Sounds like you and Booty are doing good. I am glad to hear you two are bonding. What a great feeling when your are building up the "confidence". I wish I could send up my trainer that helped with Buck and my step-daughter Carla who is about the best Confidence Builder" you will ever want to meet. She doesn't let me get away with anything. lol

Thanks for the support guys. I think at this point I will just see how we do on our own. With winter coming I don't want to do a lot and then have Booty have the winter off and then start all over again.

I think it's really helped the last few times I rode her. She did SO GREAT for only being ridden about 7 times or so all summer. No bucking, kicking, etc. Just a little rusty. We did lots of ground work instead of riding....but after being used to being ridden all day every day, she is doing really well with all the off time and me riding her.

That is totally un professional that those trainers aren't returning calls! I hope you find someone who is worth your time soon, but I'm glad to hear you're doing well on your own in the mean time.
