So we were heading downtown Minneapolis to go to eat at this fancy steak house. We're on the highway and suddenly the lane we're in comes to a complete STOP. Nathan (my hubby) brakes just in time, but the guy behind me never even tried to stop. He RAMMED right into our car. His entire front end was smashed. We felt quite a jolt from the impact, but our brakes held us and we weren't pushed into anyone else. We pulled over to the side and he pulled over too. We can see the other guy is REALLY upset about it. We're looking around to see if our toddler is okay and when we look up the guy is PULLING AWAY! Awww... We didn't write down a license plate or anything! I called the police and alert them about it. My husband and I only carry liability on our cars because we pay CASH for our cars. :( With the guy to blame gone, we can't get out to look at the damage, etc. We just sat there is shock. When we got off the highway we checked out the back of our car and it's actually as good as it could be. It's just the plastic cover of the rear bumper that's damaged.

So, I'm getting ready to be REALLY mad and I start thinking this could have been SO much worse. I just started thanking God for taking care of us. Here's all the main things that could have been worse...

1. We could have been in our little red coupe. In that case we could all be VERY injured or even dead! Instead we were in our BIG SUV and barely felt the hit. The other guy was in a small Ford Escort and he was very smashed.

2. He could have hit us on the corner of our bumper and spun our car into another lane causing multiple cars to strike us. On that note we were also on a bridge, so we could have been pushed off into the water!

3. If he was really mad and had stayed to talk we could have been hurt by him.

Thank you Lord for taking care of my family. I know that whatever the cost of fixing my vehicle it is nothing compared to loosing one of my family. I felt your hand upon us today.

I hope you all don't mind me spilling my thoughts here, but I needed to vent. My husband is still very stressed about it, so I don't want to burden him right now. Thanks for listening.

I'm uploading pictures now... I'm going to rub my husband's sore neck and then I'll get them on here.

Okay here's the pictures:

That was an awful thing of him to do, but I think you're on the right track to count your blessings. All in all, this situation ended very well.

Mu husband and I have been in 2 accidents in less than a month. We are literally scared to go into town!! The drivers are CRAZY!! I was almost in a huge car pile-up yesterday and escaped with a dent.

Awwww geez, sorry that had to happen. I only live about an hour and a half from Minneapolis, and I have a couple friends that live in the suburbs around there.....any time I have to drive over there I'm always holding my breath, some of the drivers there are crazy! Too bad the person had to take off on ya, that's crappy they did that....but I'm glad you are all OK.

I am glad no one got hurt and they find him. Maybe he was drinking, that is why he fled.

Sorry to hear of your accident. So glad no one got hurt.
Did you call the police and report it? I would of, they would put a look out on the type and color of the car.
God was with you, thats for sure.

I'm glad you are all OK, I was wondering about the drinking part too.

Thank god you and your family were not hurt. The car can be repaired so don't sweat the little stuff. Annoying? yes. an unwanted bill? yes. But it could have been so much worse. I'm sure the person thought it was your fault- How dare you stop and slow him down!! He either excused himself from being responsible or knew he was and didn't want to accept the consequence.

I bet he didn't have insurance or has some kind of warrant out for him or something...

Glad no one was hurt and damage to your SUV was minimal...

I am thankful you and your family were in the SUV and damage to you and the vehicle was minimal. Did they ever catch the other driver?

OMG, shewasmyshadow! I'm so sorry. Yes, for that amount of damage to be on that bumper, it was quite the impact! :( You were definitely being watched over, that's for sure.

My dh, ds and I had a close call yesterday on the way to Diane/SM's house. It's a long road where everyone speeds and this truck was coming our way. He was flying.. and just as he neared us he began to run off the road in a BIG way. Deep grass and a SHARP dropoff. DH cringed and said, "Oh my God.."

After the guy passed, DH said he was so glad the guy didn't overcorrect.. if he had, the timing would have been the worst for all of us. :(

Thank God for all of us!!

edit: And it seems like someone who saw your accident would have reported the driveoff.. I guess if it was such a fast-paced highway, though, those onlookers were already passed and didn't know he drove off anyway. And he probably knew that. :(

I'm with vick, though.. I would definitely report the type/color car. I see all the time on the news here where they're looking for a hit-and-run person and many times they find them.

Oh, we reported the vehicle's color, make/model and damage. I don't even think the police tried to find him at all!! Kind of maddening...

Sorry to hear this SWMS. I'm glad the damage was minimal. I hope your hubby's neck is OK. He should get it checked. Even a minor whiplash can cause a flare up later.

MPLS being a major city is very busy and the police are often behind in calls. Since there was no injury to a person and "just" a traffic accident I bet it was put quite low on the list of priorities.

Wow... sorry to hear about that, but glad everyone in your family is OK!
Hopefully the police do find who did this. My assumption is that he was drinking too and that is why he fled the scene.

Glad y'all are okay but shame on that idiotic driver! People like that make me mad. I hope the police are able to find him, or maybe see his damaged car.

Hugs to y'all :grouphug:

Sorry that your car got damaged but really grateful that none of you were hurt.

I got rear ended almost two years ago. I was at a traffic light trying to make a left turn, had my blinker on and BAM a Ford Escape hit my Chevy Malibu. My Malibu was a tank which is probably the reason I didn't suffer any injuries because the guy driving the Ford did not try to stop. My Malibu was totaled but I'm still here to tell the story. I really wish I would have gotten pictures because it was really messed up.

Luckily for me the guy that hit me didn't run and I was the only one in my car.

Yeah, I mean I really see the value of a BIG car now. They are much safer. I am so thankful this was out first accident and it came not a week after purchasing our SUV. I know I could be angry, but I just can't stop seeing how God protected us.
