I've had these 3 ducks for almost a year, two males and one female. The male is a total butthead and always beats up the other male. A little over a month ago we got 2 ducklings, both females. We finally let them out of the coop on Thursday and let them roam the yard. Well, three days ago the gray female, Dubbie and the mean male duck disappeared. After about an hour we saw the male duck coming back from the river (which is down a steep cliff sort of thing) that boarders my pasture. This was extremely weird because that duck NEVER goes in that pasture. He doesn't like the horses because they always step on him.

Two days ago the male duck was attacking the other young female Káduk and we had to pry his beak apart to get him off her. Káduk made friends with the "popular" chickens (the boss chickens who are the most people friendly) and stayed in the back yard in an area fenced off from the other ducks and the geese. WELL last night Káduk disappeared, too and we saw duck tracks all over by the river. This time of year the river is REALLY fast with a strong current.

So what has my duck been doing? Leading my baby ducks into the river so they'll DROWN. I'm so upset. Especially about Káduk. :( The worst part is the older female is hatching a bunch of duck eggs, the daddy of which is the sociopathic duck. So we're going to have a bunch of sociopaths running around here drowning each other! Gahhh.

That's awful. I'd be upset, too. I'm sure he's got some evolutionary reason for his conduct. Perhaps because they aren't his ducklings, who knows? I'm afraid I'd send him off to the Rainbow Bridge if I was sure that he was doing in the other ducks.

It's hard to tell in the "Animal Kingdom" what your male duck's instincts are and why he is doing this but when your female has her ducklings she will protect her babies and put a "Beat Down" on your sociopath male!!!

The ducklings will be taught proper behavior from their mom and she will correct bad behavior so don't worry that they will be sociopath too.

I'm sorry to hear that you lost your two ducklings but they may be alive and well just living down stream somewhere. They can indure rough currents and swift waters more than you think so here's to being optimistic on all your ducklings.

That's good to hear, Vacker.

After the female hatches her eggs we're going to get rid of all the ducks. She's just about as evil as the male. My friend has like 50 acres and a pond and they have a ton of ducks and geese. Maybe out of all the ducks there Mr. Sociopath will get put in his place.

It's a Christmas miracle!!

We just found Káduk hiding in the shop! So maybe Mr. Sociopath only drowned one duck?

I'm still getting rid of the other ducks. Káduk can stay but the other ones are going to go. My other nice duck, Duck Duck (the other male) might stay but he doesn't get along very well with Káduk. If they can work it out those two will stay. But for sure I'm getting rid of the female, the mean male and their babies after they grow up some. I don't know what we would do if we kept all of her babies! She's sitting on about 9 duck eggs and 4 or 5 chicken eggs. We already had 23 chicks this year plus our 8(?) chickens hatched last year. It would be madness if we kept all of them. After this years chickies start laying we'll be selling our free range all natural cruelty free eggs for $3.50 a dozen. :) So maybe all of our birds could start paying for themselves.
