I was wondering what other horse forums are out there that folks visit. I am pretty sure horse.com is about dead. I might just take a break from forums in general.... I would like to visit a forum where they deal with training issues quite a bit.
Suggestions?

HGS.

I just get on and visit threads, hardly ever post as you're never really noticed there unless you make a name for yourself, but there are a lot of training threads there.

HGS (above) is a busy forum with a lot of members. But I'm guessing you won't like the reputation system there. :)
Horse.com is actually coming back to life a bit since the new face-lift and now that new members can join again.
I am on HGS - but get bogged down because it is SO busy. I like horseforum.com and I also visit newrider a lot - even though most of the people are on the other side of the big blue sea. They have an "adults who ride ponies" section that I'm usually found in.

HGS is fine they just don't suffer fools well ... the rep system is just a system .. I dunno ... most of my rep comes from saying nice horse ... I get more then my share of neg adn just laugh it off...

We already have at least a comfortable familiarity with your mood swings. To them, you'll just be a new grouchy stranger. :)

I didn't say I wanted to make friends. When I first started on horse.com I learned quite a bit about groundwork, worming, training, hoof care etc. I really have not learned anything here. Its a social forum, not a learning forum. I also don't like my reputation of having mood swings. For one thing, some of you are too quick to call it a mood swing, when it might be attitude or whatever, and for another, I think my mental state should be more private than it is.

Horse.com is actually coming back to life a bit since the new face-lift and now that new members can join again.
It has the potential to pick back up... Unfortunately, I think they still have the same administration problems they did before. No forum technical support. Days go by between questions and problems even being addressed, the software is still buggy, and there isn't any appearance anyone's working on it more than a minute at a time.
They at least ought to make hunterseat and shiver moderators. At least they're there and interested in the life of the forum. Instead, they kept the same moderators who are rarely there. Some of them haven't been there since before the crash.

It's not a diagnosis MW, it's just my experience watching you crabbing at everyone today.
We're growing, but still a fairly small and familiar forum. There certainly is more varied content at a few of the larger ones already listed above. I hang out quite a bit at HGS at times... It's a good forum.
And FWIW, I like the rep system there (HGS). In a big forum, it works. It probably does make people want to behave, and want to say something helpful. It just doesn't fit the more casual and friendly mood we're trying to maintain here.

I have to say I keep poking around in other forums, but I always come right back. I love this one, but sometimes I wonder if I should have 2 forums that I'm on. However, all my friends are here. Several I've met in person and all have been wonderful! :D Others, I've sent or received stuff from. Talk about kind, generous and fun to talk to!! So, I'm staying here. Good friends know all there is about you, they know your story, they know your dreams, they know your likes/dislikes and they love you anyways. That's baywindfarm for me.
P.S. They know a lot about horses too. :p

I am honestly not seeing it here. On the first forum I was on I learned so much about ACV, BOSS, groundwork, etc. There were people there that wanted help and listened. All I see here is pictures of this and pictures of that. If you don't post pictures you might as well forget it. I know I caused trouble sometimes, like with the white hooves versus dark thread on horse.com, but on a daily basis this forum is just a "hi, how's it going?" type thread. It bores my socks off yet I keep coming here hoping there will be something interesting. So I'd probably be better off elsewhere.
I checked out one forum, horseforum.com maybe? Low and behold, there was a thread about kids at shows...how they throw dirt clods, run around on the bleachers, ...definitely my viewpoint on showing totally....too many unruly kids...there was one that kicked dirt at my horse the other day and just jumped off a bleacher right in front of us. Here its totally pro-kids.
I have met 2 very nice ladies as a result of being on a forum. (in person, I took riding lessons with one)
I should go join a dressage forum!!!

I'm with WB. The forum is what you make of it. I come here for the socialization of like minded people. People who enjoy horses as a way of life. I don't board my horses so I miss the daily banter of 'barn friends'. Even the cranky ones. But if you're not into that then you should definitely find somewhere that can fulfill whatever needs you need met. . cause there is a reason for being on the internet on forums instead of reading research and training articles. .and it doesn't sound like you are into that.

05-16-2009, 09:04 PM
Um, I think most of our 'kids' here are very mature. And I enjoy their company and posts. I'm glad the WB's felt it necessary to build us a forum where we could be refugees from horse.com so we could all find each other again. And now this has become home, my 'foundation' if you will. I'm on another forum, a pit bull forum, but it's not home. There's 5k or 6k members and it's too easy for me to get lost in the shuffle, it feels like a busy stadium or airport. If I have a horse question, I post it here and get tons of information I need. Some days this forum is slow, or stale if you wish, but we're still a small family so there won't be a ton of new stuff every time. Not like a forum with a million members. If my forums are slow, I google something I don't know or other things to learn about.

Dont down our kids MW. You have NO clue what it is to be a parent, and obviously what our kids are about.
Your grouchy and argumentative over the silliest things.
There is alot to learn on this forum, and just because we do it in a friendly way, you dont like it and say there is no kind of training going on here. Well there is, its just not negative/argumentative like you want.

I don't post pictures and everyone still treats me good! I was on other forums for yrs and never made it to 2000 posts like I have here! I "talk" alot here!
If you want to know an answer to something ask, there are many people here to help or give their opinions etc. I would rather not have the drama of other forums, I left one because of the high school attitude drama. Adults acting like 13 year olds, I don't need that, I said good bye. The teenagers here are way more mature than the adults on that forum. If people here want to vent they can and they will have people to talk to about it, people of all ages so you can see things through the eyes of the younger people, and every age in between even old people like me! I've never really seen anyone be mean to anyone here unless it was the crazy couple and people weren't really mean they were just trying to figure them out, they changed their stories every time they said something. They were exhausting.
I learn alot here. I don't ask alot of questions because my best friend is a trainer so if I have a question I ask her, I'm lucky, but still I learn alot even if I don't ask questions. If I see something interesting I'll run it by her and she'll alot of times say that is right but it was never something I ever thought of asking her. If I didn't see it here I wouldn't know! For others who aren't as lucky to have a trainer as a best friend and need an answer I have never seen anyone not answer them in a nice helpful way. They might get alot of different opinions but then that's for them to sort through to figure out what they'd like to try. People are always helpful.
This is where I like to be and I don't look for anywhere else.

Oh yeah, we go to every horse show here which is every week from May-Oct. Next week is the first one. Our friends show and we like to watch them. We might miss 2 when we're on vacation but otherwise we're always there. I have never seen unruly kids at any of them. If there were unruly kids they'd be removed. I've seen them tell people with unruly dogs to do something with the dogs or leave. They would not put up with throwing clumps of dirt or anything else especially at a horse and rider.
I don't have kids, I don't really see this board as pro or con kids, people have kids, they talk about them, most of them seem like nice kids. I'm sure if someone posted saying that their kid did something wrong what should they do about it they'd get lots of answers! I don't think anyone would think it was OK to do something wrong especially to an animal [Except for Peggy's snake which caused a little to-do between snake lovers and people like me who hate them but still I don't think that got vicious, I could see both points of view but if it was at my house the snake would have been bye bye the first time it was seen and came after me!] if it was posted here that someone was throwing something at a horse I'm sure people would not say the kid was right!
Everything is what you make of it and I find this very informative and friendly and I only feel at home here.

I wasn't saying it was a good education forum, I was just surprised that particular viewpoint about kids at shows was being expressed. I think I will boycott forums for the summer...surely I can get more done with the horses.
For the record, I love the kids here, Dakota etc... I just have my own views about teaching kids how to ride AT shows.

There is A LOT to be learned here. There are all sorts of feed questions, spur stop questions, rearing advice, trailering adivce, pasture advice, vaccination advice, mane care, showing.
And that's just from the first three pages. It is a social forum too. I'd rather have that than something so busy like HGS or so lame like h.com.
Social is good, you get to share the good, the bad and the ugly with like-minded people who understand. And you will NOT find better admin on any forum anywhere.
It's all what you bring to the table. Starting threads, asking opinons, sharing ideas. Even if you share thoughts that go against the grain or you don't agree with, people still learn from different ideas.

I think walking was just giving examples. The forum isn't your personal horse adviser/helper - whatever you wanna call it, it's not here to answer all your questions (especially if you are not posting them - that makes it a little hard for us) and nobody else receives answers they need, no socializing goes on, etc. It doesn't work like that, we ALL share information here and it may not be the information you need (at the time, you never know what comes up in horse life) but someone does.
I normally don't mind your "not so good" posts but I think this one is just for drama. If you really didn't like it here, found it boring or whatever, you could've done several things instead of making this thread. You could go away, ignore the parts of the forum you don't like (the socializing) and enjoy the parts you do, start "debatable" threads or heck, go away AND google "horse forums." If you don't like us, I don't get why you are asking us which horse forums we like, they'll probably be just like this one. ;)

LMAO! I didn't even say that, even though I agree with it. However in that you did support my theory that you are a know-it-all that just wants everyone to agree with you.
There have been several threads here reguarding gaits and how to develop/enhance them. But doing something about it would mean you'd have to stop complaining, brush the chip(s) off your shoulder and actually listen to someone, or maybe even ride past your mailbox.

As the TRUE COLORS SHOW!
Well lets see, since you know it all, why would you give ill advice to others and with such negative impact?
When I hear someone say that they know it all, I just laugh at their stupidity and their lack of ability to learn new or improved things. No one knows it all.
As for your husbands 1/2 Walker not gaiting, maybe if you would ride him and work him like others of this forum did, oh and wait, there was a thread on gaiting and I believe there was a lot of good advice, but I forgot, you know it all so you did not need to read it:rolleyes:.
I do believe that you live for drama and ciaos hence this thread and all the negative, nasty posts you make to others. (Irisgreen, Appylover, CG, myself and many others of this forum) You really like stirring the pot with your stupid stick:whack: (love that one Badlands;) )
As others said about this forum. There is a lot to be shared once you shut your mouth and open your eye's. Not to mention, if you have a question there is that "START A NEW THREAD" button that you can use.
All I can say is GOOD luck to the other forum that you choose. This forum tolerated your nasty comments, until you finally crossed the line.:nono:
I never knew anyone that could be so negative and nasty as you have been on this forum. Good luck in your search and HOPEFULLY you will LEARN to PLAY NICELY with others in the future!:banghead::headscratch::deadhorse:

There is A LOT to be learned here. There are all sorts of feed questions, spur stop questions, rearing advice, trailering adivce, pasture advice, vaccination advice, mane care, showing.
Hmm - feed - nope, don't want to change it, spur stop, nah, rearing - never happened, trailering, they load like a charm, pasture - plenty green right now thank you, mane care - hmm - well maybe that one...vaccinations - I have a vet thank you and we have figured out how to give her shots with a minimum of fuss, so yuppers, I do know it all....
Thanks for pointing that out to me Walkin!!!!
But oh yeah, I still can't get the 1/2 Walker to gait yet! Gee whiz, that would be your department right??
Well, I don't know what to say then. If the topics here don't help or aren't anything you want to contribute to then you may find a happier place at one of the busier forums.

I never saw any gaited threads other than about someone sending her horse to a gaited horse trainer.
As for your husbands 1/2 Walker not gaiting, maybe if you would ride him and work him like others of this forum did, oh and wait, there was a thread on gaiting and I believe there was a lot of good advice, but I forgot, you know it all so you did not need to read it
I DO RIDE MY husband's horse!!!!!!!!
And the previous owner is coming out to help us work with him on the gaiting issue.

Well, I'd appreciate if you guys would let MW choose to stay or go at this point without actively trying to run her out.
But MW - I would like you to realize that the attitudes and moods you're facing from other members are your doing. You are getting from this forum, and these relationships, exactly what you've put in them.

MW, remember that thread you started in General Discussion a while back stating that all the controversial threads had died down (about the election etc. etc.) so you wanted to start a new thread with some drama (those were your exact words)?? Are you that bored? It makes no sense to continuously state you aren't happy with this forum but then keep coming back and posting....

Maybe we shouldn't back MW into a corner here. I will admit many of her posts seem very negative in nature, but a lot of people just don't transfer well from real life to online....my boyfriend is one such person. He and I met online and honestly, I thought him to be a boring, humorless person....and was surprised to find out he was quite the opposite in "real life." His typing style is just totally different.
I do think MW is misunderstood a lot and people jump to conclusion (though sometimes it does seem to be pot stirring going on....).
But this group mentality of ganging up on people is just not sitting right with me. I realize I'm just a lowly fellow poster....but take it for what it's worth, I suppose.

I actually agree. Not because I think anyones feelings are going to get hurt, but I think someones desperate for attention. (TBgirl's right IMO) All the nagging and efforts to make her leave would only solidify her position her on the forum. Every forum has someone like her, I think we should be glad she's not worse than she is. :) (see eleven, I'm sticking up for her! LOL)

Yeah, but most of us forgive her for that. :D

My sister just moved to Texas, so riding your horses might just some day be a reality. I am sure that I would learn a lot from you, but neither do I consider myself as poor of a rider as you think. I'd love to see what you could do with Ginger!! And I would not laugh at you either.
Those cookies look awesome. I never shared my sandbox as a kid by the way.

I am actually now in FL...and like I said, I have an open door policy at my ranch. And I can even get you multi park passes to disney :cowboy::p
My only concern with you has been your attitude on the forum. That doesn't mean I would not be more than happy to have you visit. Bring your horse is you like.
I just think you need to humble yourself and you'll find there is a lot to learn here. And like others have said....if you aren't finding the answers you want... hit "new post" and make one. And see what happens. I'm all for helping anyone if I am able to.

Actually...now that I re-read...I'll let you ride some of my horses.. I'll put a free 15 days on your horse... and even take you to disney...
And we'll see who's laughing at that point...
If you read my other threads..... unless your horse is a sado-mascociat homocidal maniac.... it's got nothing on the horses I get in here.
And, for the record, I've never deemed you a poor rider... I've never seen you ride.

Ginger is a sweetheart, just has a few quirks is all. She is mostly a one rider horse. The trainer I hired several years ago did an awesome job with her but she is not the kind of horse that lets just anyone get on her. She stands for me to mount, but wiggles out of the way when others try. After some serious groundwork she will let you mount. Super quick. The riding instructor said something about she'd like to see me try team penning...but I doubt I'd ever be able to do that.
Its a long drive, thanks for the invite... Sorry about Dena...
Oh and Arrow, that was a SARCASTIC post about knowing it all.

The problem is that you come across as you know it all...when you don't know a whole lot from what I have read....
I am all for someone learning... I have 20 plus students from 4 to 23... and I am more than willing to help anyone. I don't think you're taking this forum for what it is. \
If you want help with something.... I know there ar many people here who will jump to help you. Buy your arrogance sometimes outweighs your willingness to learn. And another forum is only going to make things more frustrating for you. I want to see everyone succeed, no matter what their discipline, but know who you're talking to before you go on an attack. I am a fan of cut and dry advice.... because I have little advice I give that is not a reality check. But I also assess the situation before I respond. Because I don't know what said person is dealing with. You have to pick your battles, assess your own knowledge, and humble yourself is certain situations...

I hang out quite a bit at HGS at times... It's a good forum.
And FWIW, I like the rep system there (HGS). In a big forum, it works. It probably does make people want to behave, and want to say something helpful. It just doesn't fit the more casual and friendly mood we're trying to maintain here.
I haven't been back here because I prefer my home forum but in response to what I just quoted WB.
It is the rep system (and a couple other things) that actually brought about the 10-12 trolls HGS had on site recently. It was interesting being able to view both the HGS reaction to the trolls and see what was written by the trolls at their home site. They are still there even now and in collusion with each other with discussions of some of the more "interesting" threads at great lengths.
Even some of the people posting on this thread were mentioned. I am thankful the rep system was not initiated on my home site.

I was vaguely aware there was some kind of cross-forum trolling thing happening there last week, but I only tried to follow it for about 3 minutes, and then gave up. What was the "other forum" involved?

I've seen tons of Spyders, Spiders, and a ton of different versions all over BBs. Similar name doesn't exactly equal same identity in real life.

yup...i used to talk to a Spider all the time on TheManeStreet, as well as over MSN and in our TMS chat. I highly doubt this is the same spider though...LOL
Very common nickname...I've seen several variations on it's spelling on the horse games I play too.
and not everyone goes by the same name on every forum ;) I have a different name on The Mane Street than I do here, and another different name on HGS.

I hope to see some new threads from you as well MW, ask questions. I am not the post popular or probably not even the most well liked personn on this forum, but I still ask questions when I have them, and although I may not get as many answers, more often than not I get some good suggestions.
