I have NEVER seen a tick dig down into an animal before.
Tomorrow Tex goes into the vet to get what is left cut out.
Its grabbable but will NOT let go.
It does not have white, so not a deer tick.
Damn things.
Dogs are NOT going back out into the kennel until its heavily sprayed.

You should of seen him laying there on his back, letting me pick at his leg until it is just red from missing(got him not the tick). He is such a trooper.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The vet got the tick out, and sent me home with some antibiotics that also are for another tick borne disease. Its to early to test for Lymes Disease, but hoping this med will stop anything before it starts. Tex is happy as usual, just tired from his long day at day care and the vet office, which is normal. He crashes as soon as he gets in the truck...lol.

Awww!! Poor guy! Evil Tick!! Hope the vets can get it out of there!!!! They are pretty amazing at times, the way they can hang on (even after most of them are gone. .)

Ticks are icky evil little creatures....I hate them with a passion. Last year they were HORRIBLE. Every time I took my dogs out, they'd come back in with at least 3 or 4 crawling on them. *puke*

Did you try lighting a match, blowing it out and sticking the ember on the tick? That usually gets them to let go.

I hear ya, thing is Im pretty anal about bugs in general and spray big time twice a yr. I havent sprayed with all this darned rain, so the bugs are out and ready to attack.
Tomorrow Tex goes in during my lunch break, I go to the Chiro after work, pick up Tex, go shopping and guess who is gonna DIE.
Im off Wednesday, so Im mowing my lawn, then going behind with my spreader, they are gonna DIE too. I dont care whats out there, its gonna DIE. I hate bugs, especially ticks and misquitoes.

I dont own matches, and would not want to burn Tex if I did have them.

Poor Tex, I hope he'll be OK. I hate ticks, I wish there was a way to kill them all, wipe them off the face of the earth. If it weren't for ticks I'd still have my Noah. He was fine 'til he got Lyme and now he's gone. I really hope Tex will be fine and the ticks will go away, we never got a chance to spray because of all the rain, it wouldn't have made any difference though, the damage was done. Hugs to the baby.

Poor boy! Hope everything goes good at the vet's tomorrow.

I'll be bringing my 13 year old Lab mix to the vet tomorrow too. She's got a nasty ear infection. :(

Awww poor thing! I am so glad we really don't have to worry about that here. Only time our dogs got ticks was when we went up to the mountians.

another time was when we brought Zeke home as a puppy. He was covered in ticks and poor Nico ended up getting one on him. I did everything to get that bugger to let go and finally just pulled it off. Nico now hates ticks because I pulled some skin off when I got the tick off.

Hope Tex gets rid of the little bugger.

Mean old tick! How dare it latch onto Tex! Darn right he's gotta die! Hope he suffers when the vet takes him out, too!

Poor little Tex! I feel so sorry for him. He knew Momma was just trying to help- smart puppy!

Just a thought, if you don't have matches how do you light your garbage and your candles when the lights go out? I can never keep a good lighter around...they get left outside or lost.

I buy those lighter things, forget what you call them, they are long.
I use them for my fireplace, fire pit and candles, works wonders.
I also have lighters for my ciggys. No matches here.

You could try using a lighter to heat something else, but I hear ya on the not wanting to burn him. Poor Tex. I haven't seen a tick around here in several years. Guess the pest control is doing a good job! I our last house my dog used to pick up several a day. My mom is way too squeamish to deal with them so every night I would give my dog a through going over and pull any off. She loved it because I would basically massage every inch of her bdy looking for them and then put some cortizone cream on the spots to keep them from itching after I got rid of the ticks.

If you pour oil on the tick it will start to drown and it will back out.

www.mosquitobarrier.com (http://www.mosquitobarrier.com)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We started using this natural alternative for mosquitoes but turns out its great for ticks, fleas and so much more! I was wondering why we weren't finding any ticks on our horses after spraying it and realized why after re-reading the list.

Did you use that on your horse pasture? Is it safe for them to eat the grass afterwards?

I know the tick is out and I'm so glad, poor baby. This is for future reference but hopefully you won't need it again. I don't know if this works but a friend sent it to me last night. It said with any tick put liquid soap on a cotton ball, swab the tick with it over and over and eventually the tick will fall off onto the cotton ball. It might work, it might not. If there was just one I used to put vasaline on it so it couldn't breathe and they'd normally back out. I hate the miserable things. When the horses had so many I just pulled them off, they don't seem to attach to the horses as good and come off easier. Then we'd drown them in a soda bottle filled with soap and water I HATE the miserable things.

I bought garlic spray to spray our yard with, I don't know if that will help, I also saw the link for the stuff listed above and that sounds good. Now that we don't have a dog I gues we don't have to spray anything now but we have the garlic spray. I would think that would be safe to spray around the horses.

Oursarge, what garlic spray did you use?

I didn't know that deer ticks had white on them? The deer ticks we have here are all dark, no white at all anywhere.
It still may be a good idea to get Tex tested for anaplasmosis and Lyme disease anyway. After what happened to Bentley last year, I'd hate for anyone to go thru what we did....and anaplasmosis can kill your dog.

one cool thing about them is that once you get it out, if you get a lighter and put the tick in the flame, it pops!!!!!!!!!! REVENGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:p i hate ticks also

I believe Tex is going to be ok. The vet put him on some meds and he has been acting his silly self.
If there are any changes down the road, I will get him checked, but so far so good.
Thanks for all the info and concern.
I am spraying him with Frontline once a week right now. When I run out of that, I will order some Frontline Plus for lil guys.
