View Full Version : Stroke
Remember my thread from a couple of months back? My beagle couldn't control her bowel movements, and I was frustrated?
She had a stroke last night and can't walk. She doesn't recognize anyone and doesn't look at us when we pet her. We've made the decision to put her down today. I've had her most of my waking life (I'm 19) and I feel really uncomfortable.
Lately we've been talking about her passing. I was browsing for dogs for adoption last night, and we keep saying she'll go to a giant bed in the sky (since sleeping was by far her favorite activity!) I hope I haven't jinxed anything.
Goodbye, Bagel. :(

Aw, I, sorry you lost her and I know that it is little consolation, but you gave her a wonderful life while she was here and you did the right thing. Give yourself some time to mourn her passing and remember her with a smile on your face and love in your heart.

She's being put down as we speak. I couldn't go. My dad is with her. The house feels really empty and alone right now.

It's always harder on us than our pets because we know. You are giving her a gift of unselfish compassion & love. The hole in your heart will never fill in but it will heal.

I'm so sorry. Childhood dog's are the hardest to loose. There is something about your dog as a child that no dog ever comes close to. What a long life she had though!

I'm so sorry, I went through the same thing last week when we had to put our beloved Noah down. It rips your heart out but we can't let them suffer. I am really very sorry for your loss. My husband wants another dog but I really don't, at least not now, nobody can take Noah's place.

I am so sorry you have to make such a heartbreaking decision--but you made the right one for her. You are a good Mommy.

So sorry to hear about your loss - hugs to you.
Thanks guys :) I really, really appreciate it. The house is terribly empty. I've never seen my dad so emotionally hurt. He had to clean out her bowls and take her cage to the basement. Then he picked up her collar and said he wanted to keep it in his drawer. He wants to take it out in a few months when he's ready. I thought that was really sweet.
We think she had a stroke because neither of her back legs worked, and she kept falling over to the left.
My dad put her down on the vet room floor and Bagel started walking again. He had to make a really hard decision right there, but in the end he thought that she wouldn't make it past the week. I think it would be hard to say goodbye to a dog twice, anyway. I was petting her yesterday morning, and she didn't even look up when I touched her. He made the ultimate decision to let her go.
I have so many memories of her. :( I keep waiting to hear a sigh or clicking toes on the ground, but nothing.

I am so very sorry. I know this is hard for you and your family. Bagel had a good life and was loved so much by her family.
Know... She is now running and chasing goodness knows what! Her body is now young and she is happy, happy, happy. Trust me. She is in a very good place and you will meet her again. :)
