I don't know if others feed this but of course we do, I don't think there is anything we feed that hasn't been recalled. It's really upsetting. We got an e-mail from PetCo this a.m.. Anyway just in case others feed Nutro, here is the link:

Yeah I know but still it's upsetting that we think we are giving our "kids" something good and find out they screwed up. Thankfully it hasn't poisoned them or anything. I've been feeding it to mine and I'm wondering if it tastes funny because my Bo has been eating more Science Diet than Nutro. It's going back to the store today and hopeully they will eat what we replace it with which will then probably end up in a recall.

Well dang. That is what we feed our cats. And unfortunately, we've burned the bag so we don't know if we had an affected batch.

So how serious is this? They've probably eaten 3/4 of the bag. Should I play it safe and throw it out? Or just buy more of a safe batch and mix it in? None have any symptoms. We're feeding 5 house cats and a few barn cats on it.

I do hate this recall business. I think it happens any time our food making is too big and centralized. One mistake can impact too many people.

The last recall my cat Jack refused to eat the food, that was the packets and gravy. I have 3 cats, one is still on kitten food but now that she's a yr old we need to start changing her over. Jack isn't wild about the dry stuff. My late cat Misty was a yr old when I got her, the people who had her before fed her Science Diet but she didn't like it that much and wasn't a great eater. Nutro was set up in the pet store and I got a sample, she went crazy for it and always cleaned her dish so that's when we changed to Nutro. Bo was a little fussy when we got her so we gave her a choice and she eats which ever she feels like at the moment but I did notice since I opened this new bag of food the other day she has only been eating the soft on top and the Science Diet. Jack picked around the dry. I'm glad it hasn't hurt any kitties.

Petco took the bag back and we replaced it with what was recommended on the sheet until they get the other kind back on the shelves. I've been feeding it for a long time, my cats always liked it but since that big recall a couple yrs ago I'm nervous about everything I give them. I don't have a dog anymore but when I had him the only thing he liked was IAMS canned. He was then put on a Hills Kidney diet which he liked but it didn't agree with him at all and I think that eventually led to his death because his intestines filled up with air and he stopped eating and his kidneys went. It's been so sad.

WB, check the link if it works and to the left there is a place that says FAQ and it tells you all about the problem. It hasn't made any cats sick from what it says it's just that the wrong amount of ingredients were put in if I'm understanding right. Nothing to poison them or anything, not like the last time. I read it at 6 this a.m. so my mind was fuzzy. Not all of it was recalled, they show was was and then tell you what you can replace it with until they fix the other. We fed the adult forumula in the funny colored green bag. All of that was recalled. I normally throw the bags away because I keep the food in a huge tin but I just happened to open a new bag within the past couple days and hadn't put it in the tin yet so I was able to check the #'s. Their FAQ is very informative though.

If I thought I could cook them something they'd eat and they'd get all of the right nutrients I'd make the food myself.

When we had Noah we switched from IAMS to Natural Balance since that seemed like such a better food, he was on it less than a month and it was recalled so back to IAMS he went until the vet put him on the kidney food. He loved it but it didn't agree with him and that's when he started to go down hill.

Hope all your kitties will be fine.

All our cats are fine... I'm pretty sure of that.

I did read the link. Just not sure how serious too much Zinc or a lack of Potassium for the short term, was. You know how I hate to be a chemist.

I guess the good news is, when you're feeding seven cats, no one bag lasts very long.

I agree with you on the home cooked stuff. We thought about it, believe me, when all the more serious recalls were going on. But it's a whole lifestyle decision, with this many animals. I'd need a dedicated freezer just for pet food.

it wont hurt them. so they are gonna be fine WB just go and take what you have left if you feel unsure and return it to the store and get what they are recomending.. they cant tell you no if you have a bag so go for it and get the other stuff and then go back if you like . that is what im telling everyone.

We found the bag! It was in the stuff to be burned but not burned yet. And it is one of the affected bags.

I called my feed store and they'll exchange what I have left for a different variety.

Glad you found the bag. We got the indoor cat/chicken flavor I think, that was what was recommended to replace what we were feeding.

When Noah was sick I looked on line for home made meals, it was so confusing depending on what I read. My head was spinning. I know they need certain things to remain heathy, I don't want to kill them with my ignorance but yet I don't want the pet food companies killing them either. How many animals died in that last recall that we don't know about? It's really sad and frustrating.

Well, I think we made out like bandits in the deal, since there's no harm done in this particular goof. Our feed store was out of 'good' bags of equivalent, so they gave us a small bag of Nutro Max Cat, their cheaper variety, to get by on, and a gift card for more of the right kind later when they get more back in stock Tues.

All in exchange for a bag that was mostly gone. :)
