OK, so my mom got my gramma a dog because my grammas been complaining how lonely it is without a dog since her last one died. And my gramma loved the dog when they went to see it, but once they got home my grammas been beating the crap out of it because it had an accident in the house and wont follow her on the leash. so we (my mom, sister and I) took the dog from her and now we have it.
Its a 6-year old Shiba Inu rescue from a puppy mill. Its very sweet and mostly just lays around all day, but it doesn't walk well on a leash and is deaf...
so cute though.
Since no thread is complete without pictures, here ya go!
Oh, and her name is Pickles.

Aw geeze... Well I'm glad you got her back. Kinda wrecks my image of grandmas, who would beat a dog. She can come around to the leash, she just needs someone to work with her :)

they are great dogs if you work with them. my friends had one in Japan it was a cool little dog but same problems he would run all over on the leash.

OMG! I'm glad you took her away from your grandmother if she was doing that to the poor thing. What a beautiful dog, the poor sweetie, she just needs time to learn is all! I hope you are going to keep her and NOT give her back to grandma?! The poor dog is deaf too, and your grandma still did that....yeah....bad grandma, she does NOT deserve to have a dog.

Not exactly sure how long your grandmother has had it for but if it spent the last six years of its life at a puppy mill of course its going to have accidents and not walk well on a leash!
Glad you took the dog from her and good luck with Pickles. She really is a cutie and I love the name! :)

thanks for all the good wishes, so far Pickles is doing well as far as not having accidents at our house. My gramma insists that she was having all sorts of accidents at her house. She was left alone overnight and didn't do anything, so hopefully things work out. Yes, though, we are keeping her, she's not going back to grammie.
The dog will need a lot of work as far as the leash, she doesn't lead at all unless she wants to go there. And always has to be on a leash because she runs off.
The other day we were running down the sidewalk after her yelling "PICKLES!!!"
Imagine what the neighbors thought.
We are keeping her now though until we can figure out what to do. we may just keep her if she stays as good as she is. she's VERY sweet and just lays at the door all day and loves to be in your lap.

Aww, what a cutie. Im glad you and your mom took her from your grandma.
That dog is going to have some issues being deaf. It cant hear NO, or Good dog, so it has to be taught differently. I hope you have great updates on Pickles.

aww, thanks. the Sheltie's not mine actually. I'm dogsitting it and brought Pickles over for her to have some company and so we could keep an eye on Pickles while my mom and sister and I had a little cookout.
Vicky- Yeah, Its going to take some creativity training her. my yowling cat snuck up on her yesterday in the backyard...
She's very observant of body language though and seems to react well to your body language. She hasn't really done anything bad yet other than running off, so its mostly been focusing on making sure she knows to pee and poop outside, lots of petting and positive expressions.

Ah, okay. :) Well, the sheltie is a purdy thang. ;)
I keep picturing in my mind you chasing after Pickles. :hysterical: I can imagine what your neighbors were thinking.

lol, I know, I even start laughing if I think about it too long. We thought about changing her name to Sookie so it wasn't as silly, but I'm kind of attached to Pickles. hehe. It sort of fits her.

Aww!! She's adorable!! I hope it all works out for her!! She's likely had a rough life living at a puppy mill. Wonder how many litters she had. . .and how many of those pups will turn out deaf. . .(puppy mills SUCK). Glad Pickles (great name by the way) has a much brighter future!

Good luck with leash training her. I know when I was training Mr. Misha to walk on the leash I had to take him somewhere that he was unfamiliar with in order to get him to explore. I believe Shibas are a primitive breed, and so they think about things differently from more domestic dogs. It could take some work.
And if nothing else, as a northern breed (typically more independent), she'll need lots and lots of good training -- especially her recall. Mr. Misha still runs off and has practically no recall, and he's almost 2 1/2. Pickles seems to be really well socialized to people and dogs though (Shibas are typically dog-aggressive), so hopefully she won't be too hard to reach, bond with, and train.
Good luck! She sure is cute!

Wow, sounds like Grammie doesn't need another dog. Glad you stepped in, that poor dog already had enough of the tables stacked against her :( I love Shiba's, we used to have one named Yoshi :) They are FAMOUS for running away though. My aunt had one that would just dart out the door in a mili-second and mosey on home when he wanted to...if he didn't get picked up by the pound first. You'll have to start teaching her sign language! :)

Maybe the leash thing happened first and then she was nervous of Grandma and started with the accidents?
Either way, I'm with WB- my image is ruined- LOL- and I'm very glad you rescued Pickles, again! What a lucky (and good-looking!) girl. :)
