My two questions for the day...

What is that little thing a the bottom of a thread that says "Tags"?

ONE thing I liked about h.com was that I could sort the members by state and see who was near me... any way to do anything like that on this forum?

THANK YOU!!!

Id like to find someone close to me, if only to ride with. That would be cool.

How and where did you do that on horse.com? I'd like to see the page. If state can be added to the member list table, and they've entered something there, then you'd be able to sort by it. That might be fairly easy to do.

Oh - I forgot the other thing.

Tags are keywords you can add to make the threads easier to find in a search by tag. Anyone can add tags to threads. I've seen a few people using this feature. The bonus is the tags are also read by google when it is indexing pages, and may help a page to come up higher in the rankings when someone is searching by that word.

In the Member list there is a sort called FROM. You can click on that.

Ah - so it's not exactly sorted by state, it's sorted by whatever they put in there, be it state or city or even nothing, if they haven't entered it. Unfortunately I just looked at how our location was stored, because I couldn't remember, and ours would end up being the same way... For example, mine will sort with the Ts, not the WAs.

Um... I'm technologically challenged... can you give me an example? Sorry - I'm just not getting it...

heh... Say you're posting on someone's thread and you advise they use Tea Tree Oil for something. You could add "TTO" or "Tea Tree Oil" or "Hippy stuff" (whichever term you want to use ;)) as a tag to that thread and all the other threads where you mention it, and then later, you could search by that term and have all those threads show up.

It can be any keyword you might want to use to later find that thread.

There is an advanced search feature in the member list search function. You can search on location. Everyone who puts the name of his/her state in as location will show up.

Ah - so there is! Thanks JackieB. Still, I think it would be helpful to add the location column to the table so when they do come up, any other information they include, like city, will also be there.
