Heyy, so I figured I need to write down my goals for this summer with Billy and stick to them :) Otherwise knowing me, I'll spend all summer having loads of fun - but not taking every oportunity I could that I might regret later...

So here goes (and please do tell me if I'm being stoopid here xD) MY GOALS:

- I want to compete in a Hunter Trial (cross-country)
- Complete our very first One Day Event (which is planned for 4th July!!)
- Continue to jump double clears at 2'6 showjumping (on grass - we do higher and better on surface lol)
- Jump our first clear round on cross-country!

Maybe that's a tall order... maybe not :P We'll just have to see :D:D
I'm not certain about the ODE yet, I think maybe I'll do one later in that month - depends how things go :)

Those sound realistic- just keep working and believe in yourself and your horse! I look forward to show results and pics of your hunter trial!!
Mine:
1. Spend time sacking out and gentling my filly
2. Spend time with my kids NOT yelling at my son LOL!
3. Camp this summer!

I can't wait to see more pictures of you and Billy! He's such a pretty boy.
My goals:
1. not get eaten alive/burnt to a crisp at camp ;)
2. make new friends, but don't forget about the ones I'm leaving behind
3. plan time to spend with Max
4. learn something new (I dunno what, just something!)

Good thread and we should check up on each other over the summer.
I have only 1 real goal and that is to regain the confidence I have lost over the past year. I want to get back to cantering and taking small jumps comfortably. I hate where I am in my riding right now.

You're all going to think I'm nuts, but my goal is to spend more time outside and with Gypsy this summer, and less time on this computer! I think my average is at least 5 hours a day, lol!

Computer's not going anywhere, and I don't think the forum is, either, but I regretted not spending a lot of time outside last summer, let alone with Gypsy, so I'm going to this summer!

So if you don't see me posting as much here and there, that will be why- I'm outside enjoying summer!

Considering that last year I only rode once or twice due an ankle injury, my realistic goals for the summer are:
1. ride more this summer
2. restart Phoenix--the rescue from the kill pen--and see if he can be used for an extra horse
3. make a yard so we can enjoy our land--right all land is used for horses and dogs and we bbq in the dirt driveway
4. don't forget to tell my partner how much she means to me every day

Steelhorserider: ankle injury - don't even go there :P I am also hoping *very very much* I remain unbroken for this summer so I can actually enjoy it and do loads with Billy :D

tell my partner how much she means to me every day - she'll like that xD

Everyone: First and foremost thank you! for taking this and running :P I wasn't sure if anyone'd post at all xD I think ya'll got the right idea... every now and then we should come back to this thread... update it with progress, changing goals etc. AND PICTURES!!:D:D:D Because we can all offer support and maybe even some advice on how to achieve those goals here... so let's use that to our advantage this summer :D:D I wanna see the whole forum saying "Ahh, last summer my dreams came true!"

So//// GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY (for us summer starts in... 3 days (inc. today)) SO GET OUT THERE AND HAVE FUN :D:D (we've actually got sunshine too - a somewhat rare occurance here xD)

I wanna see Cloe jump again ^_^ And Samson recently learned walk to canter.. its SO frustrating when he wouldn't do it, but a nice feeling when he did. I have it on video, I'll put it into the next one ;)

I really need to think about this one since I just reached some of mine - one was to ride in the Coliseum (did that last week) and then to qualify for our region 16 show (did that last week too)
One thing that's still on my list is to get my mare going in the side saddle and show at the Woodstock fair, another is to start showing my mare over fences.

2. Work with her quirks - i.e. trailer loading, wash rack, etc.
3. Show her in jumpers. :)

2. Work with her quirks - i.e. trailer loading,
The joys of loading eh? LOL :D I used to believe people when they said 'this horse WONT load'. Now I don't XD. Billy used to be as bad as they come... I vaguely remember it taking 3 hours or so :P With gentle work (feeding on there etc.) and short rides to fun places, he now LOVES going out.. and walks right on - he can be a little stubborn approaching the trailer but as soon as we reach the ramp he's like okay :D
Good luck with your girls training :D

GazettE Get a job.
Get a horse. *sigh*

Now you look here! Where's that positive attitude gone!? Eh? I shared my hypnotizing skills (if you can call them that :P) with Palogal earlier... your turn xD

Repeat after me...

I AM GOING TO GET A JOB.
I AM GOING TO BE HAPPY GETTING A JOB.
WHY? BECAUSE WITH THIS JOB IT WILL HELP ME AFFORD MY *LOVELY* HORSE THAT I WILL BUY.
THE JOB WILL MEAN I CAN GET WHATEVER HORSE I WANT *pretty much*. SO I AM GOING TO BE OPTIMISTIC AND BE HAPPY ABOUT GETTING A JOB AND A HORSE.

Repeat as many times as necessary for the desired effect. In fact, I'd be thrilled if you ended up talking it in your sleep :D

OK gang, its been a couple of weeks, so here's my update. We've had some crappy weather so I am only ridng abt 2'x's a week, but Missy and I cantered abit today. I just did 1 straight line and she was fine(we need to work on her stepping into it better) But it felt good to canter some again. My leg swung abit bit I kept from getting too far forward, so yeaaa ! Our first show is in 2 weeks so I need to keep at it so I can do wtc in the class I will enter.

So how are you all doing ?

I'm going to knock one more of mine off the list next month, I'm actually taking my mare to our region Championship show. That was a goal we set last fall but I really didn't think I would be doing it this year!

HERE'S MY UPDATE!

One of my goals was: Jump a clear round cross-country (Billy & I)

We did this on thursday! We are also going back next thursday for more clear-round & schooling.. all building up to doing an ODE - possibly on the 4th July - if all continues well, then it's possible :D

Right now, my only goal is to get my right knee sorted while in the saddle! My left leg sits where it should, my right leg sticks out about 45 degrees >.<

I'm thinking jointed stirrups, but as I ride at a riding school I'd have to put them on/take them off whatever horse I'm on before and after the lesson...hrm.

Non-horsey wise...I'm aiming to climb Mt. Snowdon by the end of the year and complete my Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award :).

Good luck everyone!

Jump the Moon:

I have two horses, Roanie, an 11 year old Tenn Walker, and Charlie, a 3 year old Perch/Tenn Walker. I have had both for three years. Roanie was bought with the idea that I would be able to go for trail rides with him. Unfortunately when I got him home that was not the case. I ended up with a bundle of nerves who ended up bucking me off. I decided that he and I needed a better relationship and I have spent the last three years working with him to trust me and see me as a leader.

This summer really seems to be the break-through for us. He comes to me when he is scared and even let me come up to him when he was laying down in the pasture. This is something that he would never have let me done when I first got him. I have gotten a new saddle that fits him and he seems to be okay with it. I feel like we are getting closer to me getting on and then we can be the partners that I know that we can be.

Charlie, a stark opposite to Roanie, is not afraid of anything. He loves to play, try different things and enjoys being around me. I hope to be able to put a saddle on him this summer and then start ridding him next summer. I have no real time table for him, but just want to do it correctly.

Roanchar - aw, I'm so glad things are turning out good with you & Roanie, do you know much about his past -or was what you were told when you bought him untrue? Charlie sounds lovelyyy :) I'll bet you have fun with him when he starts under saddle :)

JTM:

Roanie has had three owners before me, one in Kentucky, one in Ohio and the farm that is close to me where I got him. I have no idea about the the owners out of state. The woman that I purchased him from runs a farm and has trail rides with her horses. The things that she told me about him were true while he was at her farm. Things changed when I moved him to my place. Part of the problem was that he was moved from a farm with over 20 horses to my place that had just him. Charlie was just born so I was waiting for him to be weaned before I brought him home. He and I had some time together but I was new to horses and he knew it. It took me getting bucked off a few times for me to realize that I needed to start from the beginning with him.

Today, I am happy to say that I am able to read him pretty well. There are still the times that he catches me off guard with his spookiness, but if he gets scared and feels that he has to run he usually runs in the opposite direction. Charlie on the other hand tends to forget about everything when he gets scared. He would run me over if I were in the way. Roanie does a good job of protecting me in those situations.
