Oook-ayy.
Hey =D
Sometimes you guys say stuff like "as you remember on horse.com", "on horse.com we had this.."
But I'm sitting here like "erm sorry.. what "
I know it is another forum, I have found out that much.
I was only ever a member of this one sooo.. I kinda don't know.
But, ehh..
Gosh I feel stupid now.
But did ya'll used to be on it or something? And if you aren't on it anymore.. why
I think when I joined someone said something about another forum, but I'm not too sure :/
Any horse.com(ers) want to fill me in?

LOL Alright, LONG story short, horse.com used to be 'home' for all of us until it hit the pits and stayed the pits the WB's created this refugee camp for us and now this is 'home.' :)
cheval
05-29-2009, 11:34 AM
It broke, they wouldn't fix it, people were leaving, the WB's came in and created this forum so we'd have a home. Many people stayed over there. They redesigned it, it's still broke. This is still the best forum to be on.

Kaitlyn
05-29-2009, 11:42 AM
Yeah, pretty much October is when everyone was absolutely fed up. It had been broken since July I think, of 2008 and they didn't do a darn thing and so we all migrated here.
cheval
05-29-2009, 11:42 AM
No, there were problems way before that. The WB's got this forum up super quick because so many people were leaving the other place.

Do people still use it? Can they if its broken? :/ Does it not let you post messages or something..
Sorry for all the random silly questions. Just like alice in wonderland.. "This gets curiouser and curiouser.."

Um, right now it's down down I think,no reading, posting, nothing. But otherwise, it sorta works, but most times a new person can't join and 99% of things don't function, like the edit button (lol) etc, etc.

Yup, I'm pretty sure this is the WB's first horse forum. Not too shabby, huh? :D
All of the active members of horse.com (pretty much) migrated here, and I actually had no idea that anyone else knew of this place. I know it's on Google, but how did you find it? :)

Oh I see!
Well I am always on youtube, laredo454 on youtube is also laredo454 here, she posted a video saying it was for the forum she was on, so I decided to join because I missed talking to just anyone! I used to be on a few websites when I was between the ages of 11 and 14 (I'm 16 now) but gave them up because of a slight.. problem regarding a few people. I'm still in touch with about two people I used to chat nearly everyday with, they were the people who motivated me to take the chance on Samson... So I kinda missed talking on forums and stuff, I'd never been on a proper horse forum, so I joined this and now I love it (: I can share my pics and videos with extreme ease, its lovely getting all the feedback and help, stuff I've been wondering about for ages!
Sorry for the novel!

Sorry for the novel! That's great! I had a lot of those kinds of situations. Where things happen and then you stay in contact with a couple of people. For me, I'd share my opinion and no one would agree with me. So I'd get bashed over and over for no reason. Here it doesn't seem to happen. It's a great place.
Glad you found us!

Yeah! I keep in contact with one more than the other, they both live kinda close to each other in Canada somewhere. The one I talk to most is practically my best friend on the computer hah, we swap stories and all =) She goes to some barn called Blue Star.. Dunno if you've heard of it, I just see you're from Canada too (:!
Exactly, I don't think I can think of anyone who has been completely negative to me!

I think everyone has the question answered :).
We launched this forum in October of 2008. Not so long ago really! Hubby and I decided to launch it because there was a need that was not being met there. The forum software was barely functioning, there was virtually no technical support, and we though, hey - there's a great bunch of people here, some of them are leaving for other forums and dispersing to the wind, and I wonder, if we built a forum, would people come?
Well, we asked that question, and many said yes, so we did it. Hubby knew HOW to do it, and we had this domain name already purchased (it will be the name of our boarding stable one day) and we had a lot of startup members, so... the hardest parts were done! If you look at the member list sorted by join date, most of the "October 2008" members were prior members from horse.com that we already knew. Over a hundred joined on the first day or two, which is not bad for a new forum :)
Of course, we didn't want to stop there; a small and closed forum with no new blood coming in, that was the problem at horse.com. So we also launched a plan to increase our membership through a few paid google ads, through encouraging word of mouth, which is evidently how you found us, and by trying to improve our google rank. There's a LOT of forums, so that part is taking awhile, but the more good subjects that get posted, the more often we'll come up in searches for information, and the more we'll grow. :)

As true today, as it was then. :)
It's been well over a year since it crashed big time, for weeks, and it was after that, when it only came back half working and it became clear they were not going to invest either the time, or the little bit of money it would take to run it, that we decided we could do better. This caused a little bit of angst, us trying to let friends know about the new site, moderators there deleting all references to here, some caught in the middle and some thinking we were leaving for reasons that were personal. It never was personal about any posters or groups of posters. ALL were welcome here.
A few weeks ago, they actually installed updated software and made it look like they were going to turn it around... new people could sign up again, functions that were long broken worked again.
But it's clear now that their interest in it was short lived. They're still not answering any questions or fixing any technical glitches, days go by and no one answers.
And for a commercially funded site, there's just no excuse for that.
They've got a few people who even after that are fiercely loyal to them, or don't like me... I've never really been sure. But most came here... even if they do maintain ties there as well, which I don't have a problem with at all.

Its nice to see how you've thought it all over, and even tried your best to make a better place for everyone just to talk to each other (:

Thats childish! If their forum is not working what do they want people to do, just sit there? Its a good thing you got the message through to everyone, this is a wonderful place here =)

Rayenn,If you have more friends who would like to join, bring them on over! Have any more Irish ones? We don't have very many of you! Know any Aussies?
I think I would be lost without this place. I only started using a computer a little over a year and a half ago. I found horse.com, and then got introduced to HGS forum. I like HGS, and check in there every day, but it's huge!
This is the overall best place for horse lovers to come- I love the atmosphere! Lots of good help here- not only for horses, but for learning how to use the site, as well.
And besides- how many forums do you know that you can acually have a thread conversation with Admin?:)

It's true that lots of times, the admins and moderators are just these un-fun grouches who rarely take part in discussions, they only show up to enforce rules and yell at people.
No matter how big we get, I don't want to be that! :innocent:

I kinda don't find this place "big." I'm sure it is, but I always feel really comfortable with it, I kinda have seen a lot of usernames and spoken with the people, so I kinda know or am aware with everyone (: I love this place..

The google ads we made to advertise the forum don't cost a whole lot... just cents per click, and we can set a limit on them, so when we reach that limit, they stop showing up. :) They've been worth it though, I think we've gotten several good members that way. They put us on the top page of searches for horse forums, when they're running.
Our investment in the software was the biggest chunk, and the web hosting... but it's still well within the range of affordable hobby at this point. :)
We make some back if you guys use the ads here for any purchases you make at amazon or allivet. Some months, that makes up for most of our expenses.
