View Full Version : Since when did cows get so loud?

Because these cows are easily at least 2 miles away, and yet I can hear them clear as a bell. They don't live next door - and hey, and that was a cockerel!! I've never heard any farm animals from Waldridge before but over the past two days they've been particularly noisy.
Anybody know how far cow moos travel as a general rule? It's just weird, being in the middle of a housing estate, surrounded by posh detached 4 bedroom houses, and having a cow mooing in your ear (or so it feels). LOL :)

They're probably calving or weaning the calves. They get really loud then. I have no clue how long a moo typically travels though. :D

Well it's not like, a particularly distressing moo, I mean I've helped with a few calvings before (I thought I'd lost my eardrums or something :P) but no, it's more of a "where are you" moo. Lol, see me, trying to classify moos...

I am finding nearly no data on the 'net to indicate how far the sound of a moo travels. :)
They must be either breeding or weaning or both though, if they're that noisy :)

LOL! I was just thinking about this last week. I was out early sampling a lake in a bit of a valley and it was like echoing moos EVERYWHERE. I couldn't hear myself think.
Got back in the truck and heard mooing all throughout the day like it had been implanted in my brain.
They are super loud. Especially if they want to be milked, fed, let out into their pastures or maybe they are trying out for those Happy California Cows commercials!

I have neighbors a mile away with cattle, and when it comes to shipping time, you can sometimes hear them in the house, even with the windows closed, lol!

There are cows across the river from us. Not sure how far, but I know which cows they are since I have to travel to that side of the river often. I can hear them when I take my dog out for walks.
