Sunshine ate out of her bucket while I held it today...I noticed she had a lot of bumps on her nose, they almost look like warts. Until I can get a closer look I am not quite sure. We are making progress with her, I think a couple of more days we will be able to get her halter in hand and we can attach a lead rope...she is very dirty and needs grooming badly. These bumps concern me, they look nasty...has anyone seen a horse with the same thing?
She is quite curious now and we can work around her without her moving away, she will sniff my hand and she is eating well and is losing her skinny look.
I just wanted to ask if anyone has any idea what these bumps might be (they are all over the lower part of her nose.
Thanks,
Ann:)

Lady: I couldn't really tell you for sure with out seeing a picture but my barefoot trimmer told me that these bumps (sounds like yours) were simply a "bacterial infection" similar to rain rot & can be treated with antibacterial ointment. I'm not saying for sure this is what it is, but it may be a possiblity. We have noticed that the "horses" at the barn where I board that have "pink" or "light" noses seemed to have these bumps so naturally we thought sun burn at first! But he claims other wise. I am sure that Ryle or others maybe able to point you to a better possiblity too. Best of luck!

Warts are not all that uncommon in babies, and most grow out of them...

It does say they're contagious, though I think usually adults get them only if their immune system is otherwise compromised. Would be a good question for the vet.

Everyone really needs to see some pics to know what you are seeing. Then anyone who has had a similar experience could help out.

I will try to get a picture...the other horses broke through the fence today and she was bitten and kicked ( we were out) anyway she needs to be caught now so we can tend to the bites and cuts...she still seems to be OK near us so are going to try tonight to get her. Wish us luck, thanks, Ann

Could be sunburn......Joires nose gets sunburned if I don't put sunscreen on her when it is sunny out.
