I wonder sometimes whether it is us the horse owners that are patient with our horses or is it that our horses are just patient with us. :D
I was pondering this after I looked up from Gracie's bandage and notice I had placed both pillow wraps and both standing wraps draped across her back and the mane&tail brush was balancing on her butt. :p
She had a tail wrap on, a bright orange polo was wrapped around her hock to hold the ice pack in place, she also had Vicor pulling on one cross ties and my nephew dumb dog standing under her belly trying to eat the crud that I scraped out from her hooves.
My sisters mare was chasing the shetland around and grunting, while our neighbor was moving around wood logs that lined their side of the fence.
When I realized all of this was going on and Gracie was just standing there, doozing and enjoying the feel of the ice on her booboo.
I have been known to drape my sweatshirts, helmet and riding gloves on her ears, put empty plastic bags from the shaving on her back and she just stands there and puts up with it all.
So sometimes I really think it isn't us the humans that are being patient with our horses. It our horses that are putting up with the humilating tasks that we put them through.
Gracie and my relationship under saddle still needs work, but by golly I trust that mare so much on the ground. If I was a stupid person I'd try to walk under her belly, but because I have suffered enough injuries lately I'll leave that up to the stupid dogs that ignore me when I tell them to go away. :D
I'd love to hear the forms of "torture" you all bestow upon your horses that you know they'd be rolling their eyes at if the could!
