Well I'm done with the photos from the weekend and I thought I'd post a camping trip report for prosperity's sake!!!

We had a good time I think. . .lol but I don't like cold! My nose nearly froze off during the night so I didn't sleep well because I was worried my son was cold. He woke up only once and said his hands were cold so I held them and he went right back to sleep.

Hubby putting up the tent!

We found a PERFECT spot nestled under some really big trees on the edge of a big empty field that had a view of the overlook but no nearby camping sites!!! Plus we were right by the trail so we could amuse ourselves by waving at all the trail riders as they went by! We will certainly camp in that spot again!

Wyatt approved of our tent!! It's the first time we've used this one and it was VERY roomy!! And nice during the day! We of course put the cover over it at night!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3287/2959923403_8423fcb654.jpg
Playing with his new Army men. . which were the favorite of the trip!

First 'traffic'!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3192/2959007202_39060a67fb.jpg
So of course we had to play in the tent once it was up!!! It was actually almost nap time. . .

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3034/2959011402_428d2d10cb.jpg
But we played for a while anyways!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3202/2958174597_a4c5c94a8f.jpg
But naptime eventually had to arrive. . . no problems napping in the tent!!

Our 'kitchen' area

The whole campsite.

Every campsite needs a crazy pumpkin plate holder!!! lol

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3273/2960806618_be0c104847.jpg
While Wyatt was napping I left my hubby reclining in his camp chair and went home to feed horses and get my dog Sable. Shes never been camping either! She had a good time. Of course during the middle of the night when the coyotes started howling she decided to get into touch with her wild side and joined in for a few choruses!! Her howling is lovely but it's a little loud when she is sitting right next to my feet in our tent. Lol. So needless to say she got kicked off the air mattress and into the truck for the rest of the night!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3028/2959018918_f4ea071625.jpg
Another happy Sable shot!! She was tied to a tree because she has a tendency to wander some. . always comes back. . . but didn't want to lose her on the Grasslands.

After naptime the boys set the grill up and decided to explore before they cooked dinner!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3219/2959936095_1a0c52b2e1.jpg

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3074/2959957957_fc0c1c0a27.jpg
Then they set off and I did what I do. . .I watched through my camera lens. I swear I see the best parts of life through my lens!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3036/2959945971_991214b8a1.jpg
While they were exploring I took photos of the area. . . evidently only 1 tree in 100 thinks it's Fall! This is from the overlook we can see from our campsite!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3136/2958198495_fd29b3ce53.jpg
The boys brought me back a flower. Awww

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3055/2960811866_58a5bb09c2.jpg
The sun started to set so the boys started getting a campfire ready. (or rather Wyatt returned to playing and Daddy worked on the campfire)

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3175/2960820074_6e2a3d005a.jpg
I decided smoke is pretty!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3194/2959989839_f6e604644d.jpg
And so is fire!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3292/2960880890_8cf082cc53.jpg

After we ate dinner we decided to call it an early night (it was around 9:30 or so) and Wyatt and I pilled into our tent and changed into our pajamas. We got cuddled up on our air mattress under our many blankets and my hubby stayed up for a while and watched the fire die out.

The next thing I remember is waking up around 2 a.m. and being frozen solid!!! I tried covering Wyatt up with a blanket all the way over his head but he protested. So we cuddled up until Sable interupted us with her singing. After that I don't think I went back to sleep really. So needless to say I was VERY happy to see this:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3186/2960007541_b17937e902.jpg
Sunrise!!!! Yay!!! I'm a sissy. I climbed into my truck and turned the heater on and watched the sunrise a bit. (The boys claimed my covers in the tent and cuddled up closer and evidently fell back asleep!)

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3252/2960003015_6e3353ea99.jpg
That one is my favorite shot of the trip. . lol

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3206/2960023929_d6ef5c2139.jpg

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3034/2960012549_671ca2f0df.jpg
About 7a.m. two big ol' trucks and riggs pulled up RIGHT beside our campsite in the big field and unloaded these horses and took off on a ride. Have to admire their dedication!! It was early!! But they only road for around an hour!! But they woke my kid up so he of course had to get up and play!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3215/2960032479_6621241b61.jpg
The sun goes up just as fast as it goes down evidently!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3059/2960902730_8fb5a79289.jpg
Sable waited on breakfast very patiently while my husband got the fire going again! I love fire!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3202/2960891882_d1be947cf5.jpg
And of course the boy played in his pajamas for a while. Oh to be a kid!! The first thing you do in the morning is hard physcal labor but it's fun!!

So we decided that one night was enough for us and that we'd go fishing and then break camp!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3186/2959069720_47dc4c66f0.jpg
Are there any fish in there?

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3269/2958215023_18ee92f732.jpg
I don't know Dad. . .that spot over there looks promising!!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3201/2958220835_d16a820999.jpg
Well evidently the only fish Wyatt can catch are the cute little rubber ones that go on the end of kids fishing poles. (Cause hooks are DANGEROUS on a 3 year old's line!)

So that was the end of our trip!! We had a great time and will do it again!! Just not anytime soon!!

Sorry you almost froze out there but it looks like you had fun otherwise. Maybe go back to the same camping spot earlier in the season when it is warmer at night.

Amy,

It looks like a great trip, beautiful countryside.....I am very jealous!

Would love to do that with horses but probably not workable with a 3 year old!

My dogs would have refused to move off the mattress, my beloved DH decided in a moment of weakness to encourage our highly intelligent collie up the top flight of stairs in our house because "I feel sorry for him sleeping on the second landing and not outside our room with the others".....so highly intelligent collie spends a day watching DH going in and out of the bedroom and works out how to open bedroom door letting himself and two Beagles in to sleep with us......this is not a big issue as they sleep on rugs on the floor until they hear thunder and all three simultaneously jump on the bed at once for protection!......not sure what the reaction would have been on hearing wild animals but I can guess.

Oh, I just LOVE your pics and commentary! Your son is strikingly handsome, your dog is beautiful.. how funny about the howling, lol!

I would have NO problem napping in that tent/spot, either! I know what you mean about the nights, though. It always makes my throat sore. :(

The pic from behind Wyatt/Dad made me tear up. I realllly wish I would get my camera out more.. how wonderful that you'll always have that!

Thanks so much for sharing! You take wonderful pics. :)

Guess you didn't see my tip about putting jugs of hot water in your sleeping bags to keep you warm, huh?
Your pictures are wonderful as always..........and that Wyatt sure is a cutie. Glad you had a good time, sounds like it was the perfect first camping trip. My kids never would nap on a camping trip, too much to do!

NOOO! I missed that tip!!! And unless I could stick that jug of water on my nose it wouldn't have helped much. My feet and body were warm luckily. (thanks to the dog!) Just my nose and arms were frozen! lol. But that water idea is a good one!!

Thanks everyone!! We had a good time!

Looks like you guys had a really great time! I love the sunrise pictures! Too bad it was so cold. You changed our minds on going camping this weekend. Even in our camper, we think it would be too cold during the day for the kids outside to do much.

Awww!!! Well that's too bad!!!! If we had a heated camper we'd love to go!! I don't think kids care if it's cold!! Mom's maybe. . .but not kids!

If only this was true for my daughter, AKA "The Diva". She has to have her room a toasty 70 or warmer at night, hates being outside in the cold, and just makes a rucus.

Great pics as usual. Thanks for sharing.

A tip to help keep warm while sleeping in a tent is to wear a warm hat. My best is a small fleece stocking hat. The majority of heat loss comes from the head and covering it up makes a huge difference especially if you are like me and can't sleep with covers over your head.

It's great to see the youngster getting a taste of the great outdoors. More kids need to learn to enjoy it.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the pictures Amy! I felt like Gypsy said - it was like we were along with you... very fun! When I camp I HAVE to wear a hat when I sleep (that and warm socks) and it seems like then I'm fine.

I really like that photo of the lantern - very cool.

You wouldn't happen to be related to the Spivey's that used to live outside of Henderson, would you?

I don't think so. I married in to the family so i'm not entirely sure of where all of them reside. But it's unlikely.
