Last evening my youngest dachsund ate a fly spray containing permethrin (our bad she even got ahold of it - My SO feels horrible that he left it out). Anyhow she started having violent seizures and shook something awful. Thankfully I was able to get ahold of a vet. He was able to get her to stop having seizures about 4am this morning. She is laying here with me now, but still has tremors and is not out of the woods yet, but the vet is very hopeful. He wanted to send her home where she is comfortable and I can get ahold of him at a moments notice.
Just hoped my experience may help someone avoid a potential tragedy....

Wow... who would have thought a dog would eat/drink that! Even my beagle isn't that bad.

Wow! I'm glad to hear things are looking better. That had to be pretty scary.

I think with Zoey it was the plastic bottle that was so inticing. She is a plastic hound for sure - loves to chew the stuff. My vet told me that the stuff is sometimes used in flea topicals and he sees this occuring sometimes when the dog will lick the stuff of them, but not quite as severe as my girl had it.
Just one other thing he mentioned to me that I thought is good to know - the stuff will kill a cat - never put flea topical for dogs on a cat....

Yikes! what an awful thing to happen. Thanks for the reminder about kitties, too.

Wow, that had to of been scary. Glad your baby is ok now.
As far as cat topicals, you can use some, but I would NEVER use Sgts, it almost killed my cat.
I use Adams spray on my cats and still you can over dose them. Use any treatment on a cat sparingly.

Well my little girl seems to be on the mend - she is walking this morning - has a little hitch in her get along if you know what i mean - but in very good spirits. Me and the vet are very hopeful this will all pass without long lasting damage. He says the toxin should be completely out of her system in a couple weeks :)
