I have always wanted one!!! He is here on trial till Aug. Then if everyone is still happy, the bird, me having him, and the owners with him gone, he will stay permanently.

His name is Tango, he is 16, and he says a variety of words, he's all ready said "Love ya" to me:)

Oh - that is so COOOL!

I've always wanted one too. I would just fear for it, with too many members of the food chain in the house.

Tiff used to have one that laughed. It was the funniest thing we ever heard, when someone got to laughing, it would laugh right along, and that was so funny we'd all laugh until it hurt our faces. :D

I'm having to really keep an eye on Susie. The owner said not to worry, that the bird can inflict a lot of damage on Sue before she could get him, but still....When I let him out of the cage Susie will have to be locked up somewhere else. I don't trust her.

I hope as he gets use to me and the place he makes more noise right now he is being very quiet, altho seems calm, moving around the cage and playing with some of the toys.

He's beautiful! Careful what you wish for, I'm sure Tango will make plenty of noise once he's settled in. My birds used to love music, if the stereo was on or my sister or I were practicing the piano or our violins the birds would happily screech along.

LOL. I expect this bird will do that too. He spent the last 10 years in a Music Studio, in the same room where piano lessons were given, and in the same building where they put on musical productions:) The told me he likes music:)

He's beautiful, I love Macaws. If you have a cat just be careful, cat or dog saliva can be deadly to birds. The bird can rip into the cat but still any saliva from the cat can kill the bird. I have an African Grey and she talks almost non stop, she barks, she sings, she dances, she's precious. We have an African Senegal too. He says a few things but mostly screams. When I had my late dog Noah he loved the birds, they'd fly down and land on his back and he was fine with it. He was so good with them. He's gone now and we have a puppy and I don't trust her with the birds so she's on a leash when she's out with them and I watch her real close. I will only take the cats there if I'm holding them. She hates the cats, she will not say anything related to cats but she still calls Noah and she barks like Deanna now, a yippier bark than Noah's deep bark. They really are fun to have and yours is beautiful, so colorful! Good luck with him.

He's gorgeous!

I really want an African Grey. The other day I read an ad in our local Paper Shop for one and it said "large clean vocabulary" :hysterical:

I knew someone with a parrot and it screamed all the time but then again I don't think they paid much attention to it.

That one in the picture is just gorgeous.

Thanks everyone:) I've been doing some reading about keeping them. Hopefully I'll be able to manage with him. But if I feel I'm not, I will send him back to the owner.

We have given him a shower, he likes to be sprayed with a bottle, and we let him out for awhile, and he went to the top of his cage for a while, then went back inside all by himself. Everything so far seems OK, other then he did bite me:). peeled some skin off. It was my fault. But he has now gotten where he will take treats from me very politely:)

He is beautiful, the biting is scary, in Dec. the Senegal, Indy, jumped off of his cage and landed on my face, he grabbed my nose to get his balance and OUCH is all I can say, I was afraid to look, the blood was awful I thought my nose was gone, the pain was awful too. I still have scars but at least my nose is attached! The beaks are the only things that scare me about Macaws, Indy is a small bird and I know the bad bites he's given me. The pet store we got Tyler from had a bunch of Macaws and I'd walk around with one on each arm, they were so sweet but they were just babies and haven't reached maturity yet. I hope once Tyler reaches maturity she doesn't start biting.

They both scream, when either of them screams Tyler says "Stop it" she'll scream and tell herself to "Stop it" and if Indy screams [His scream is LOUD] she tells him to "Stop it, Stop it, STOP IT". I never yell at them so she made that one up herself. She is hysterical, she can sing the whole Hi Ho song, she sings Hi Ho Hi Ho It's off to work we to. When we go out the door she barks, yells Noah come here [We lost Noah 3 weeks ago but she keeps calling him, it's so sad.] then makes the car alarm noise. She is very entertaining. I hope you'll be able to keep him, he is just so colorful and beautiful and they can really make you laugh.

Gorgeous! I so love Macaw's! My B&G has learned the smoke detector and man oh man can he do it loud! Yikes! He is a lot louder then my African Grey, but she is a talker and he is a noise maker! They are a lot of fun if you can tolerate the noise and mess they make! Have fun with him! :)

i THINK military macaws are the ones that are mostly greens with a bit of blue on the flight feathers and a bit of red on their head above their beak.
