Eager to show action on the ailing economy, President Barack Obama promised Monday to speed federal money into hundreds of public works projects this summer, vowing that 600,000 jobs will be created or saved.

OK...from what I understand of these "jobs", they are public works primarily. So, what happens when the project is over??? What happens to those jobs when the new buildings are built, when the new roads are done, what happens to those workers ???? (HINT: unemployment will go UP again ) Will the administration take credit for the higher unemployement when these jobs end ????

It looks all nice and warm and fuzzy...but when you get down into the details....it doesn't look as nice. Also, are these jobs that Americans will want to do? Or are these going to be primarily (illegal ?) immigrant jobs ???? For example...how many of these laid off car makers are going to WANT to go outside and pave roads in 100 degree heat ???? How many software engineers and stock traders from wall street are going to want to go out and build/refurbish govt buildings in 100 degree heat ???? or all these folks just going to stay on the limitless unemployment benefits and wait....

Just wondering what's going to happen?

On the news yesterday a political guest advised to pay attention to the wording, especially the term, jobs saved. He suggested that there will be no new jobs, just jobs saved. But that is also good.

The reason they want to concentrate on "jobs saved" is because there is no way to measure such a thing. It means whatever they want it to mean and can make up whatever number they need.

It's not, nor should it be, within the power of government to "create jobs" in the general economy. They can't do it. All they can do is get further out of the way and allow business to create jobs. No matter how many times John Maynard Keynes is proven wrong, they keep digging him up and dusting him off. Time to quit that.
