Wow! You and Crstal are doing so well! If you try the bridge technique one handed now, it will help you guide her head around when she wants to turn it the opposite way, lol! You will be able to still use a direct rein to reinforce the aid.
What a silly Trigger! I bet if he'd had his way, he would have been in the house in a heartbeat!

She is catching on quick!!! WTG
OK OK Ann I will take pics today sometime since Mike is home to HELP me
If you bridge the riens it willbe alittle easier on you LOL.. and if you drop one for some reason it will just fall over her neck instead of to the ground :)

OK thank you!
I'll will bridge them. Thanks for helping!
Will it confuse her if I will want to trot her and hold the reins in both hands? Or is it better to be patient and wait until she is really good with neck reining while she walks. And trot her later. I'm pretty sure that she wouldn't be this easy out of round pen and trotting.

Petra we routinely switch back and forth with Moosa since he is not perfect yet :)
the hardest part about briding is learning to "handle" or "manage" the reins... we ALSO bridge our reins on all our horses when NOT showing (we don't show) LOL
Petra

Thank you PeggySue! I willl bridge them from now on. Ha ha I'm clumsy person! I'm very good in dropping the rein!
Lol I will NEVER show. I'd die with so many people around!

It's kind of from another thread.
This one:

I just started training my horse 3 weeks ago and Gypsy Rose mentioned that since Crystal is doing pretty good she may be ready to learn neck reining. The rest was discussed through PMs.
I cannot do much here at work, but when I'll get home I'll paste them in here if you are interested in this. Peggy Sue and Gypsy Rose were great help to me. I'm sure they will not mind me posting the PMs about neck reining in here.

Wow you two are wonderful!
I had a crazy day only now I finally get to sit down.
I didn't get to read all the posts and watch the videos yet. Thank you so much for all that effort!
I'm going to catch up on everything now.
I did get to ride Crystal for a little while tonight. It was already dark, but I had to :).
I'm going to try neck reining at trot tomorrow. She did awesome tonight!
So much better than yesterday. She really wanted to trot too; she was walking really fast. I didn't let her yet (would have if it wasn’t so dark – it’s a cloudy night). Will see what she is like while trotting. She has it down while walking!

Star 197: Here are parts of PM's from Peggy Sue and Gypsy Rose:
I forgot to mention bridging the reins. It's a great way to make the transition between direct and neck reining.
..............................................
YouTube - 9/3/08 T and Moosa
This is my son riding with a "bridged" rein.. look closely at his hands ignore the rest LOL
did you notice at around 3 minutes where he lays the rein adn then "pulls" the inside one... he was also using seat and leg which is hard to see in videos ... he will release the outside rein and lay it across then shorten(tighten) the inside one when asking for turn... he goes leg/seat, lay rien then pull :)
.............................................
think thumbs up... I will have my hubby take a pic tonight when he gets home think 12 hours from now LOL ... she will pick it up as you keep doing it .. both reins are held in both hands .. man trying to TYPE this is harder then I thought ...
................................................
If you are getting it to WORK one handed go ahead and keep doing that you are just skipping a "step" no biggie if it works for you :)
..............................................
Which book do you have? I'm always up for learning about which books are good and which not. Obviously, the one you have has been helping you.
...............................................
I just thought of a wonderful book that not only would help you with what you are doing with the horses, but also with your riding, as well. Warning- this is NOT conventional show riding. It's more along the lines of riding in harmony with your horse, which is exactly what you are trying to do.
Have you ever read "Enlightened Equition" by Heather Moffett?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Enlightened-.../dp/0715308106
.............................................
It's a fantastic book- one that I have read over many times.

Yes poor Mike got a lesson tonight he didn't know was coming. I wanted to show her the bridging and how to use them when a horse doesn't turn and how to hold them.
He gets that done to him alot with trees and stuff becasue he doesn't WATCH where the horse is going LOL poor guy I just try to kill him all the time:p
