What would be the general concensus on the Big Horn saddles. Specifically a Ranch or Pleasure saddle.

I saw a couple at a local tack shop last weekend right next to a circle Y and honestly couldn't tell the difference in quality from looking at them together. Difference in price was enough to take notice though. About $400 with the circle Y being more expensive.

If you've ridden or own one would you relate your pros and cons?

Thanks in advance!

Ive owned 2 of them and I love them.
I buy the cordura ones but they have to be a certain type, if you buy one under 350, watch out.
Ive owned this one in black, 16 inch.

We love hubby's Big Horn - Arab trail saddle on the right there... Comfortable, and still looks new after several years of trail use.

Well, personally i think they're kinda ugly with the half synthetic, half leather thing...but they are very comfortable.

I dont like anything synthetic for one, my main saddle is a circle y all around roping saddle I have had it since may of 1987 (graduation present), and I cant say it looks new but it has held up thru 22 yrs of rodeo, ranch work, wrangling dudes at a guest ranch, and working as a head wrangler at a Y camp and still going strong you can see it in my pics........Kevin

I have a nice leather/synthetic one and I don't think it's all that comfortable, but then again it's a inch or two too big for me. :p

They are nice saddles otherwise though, they look very, very well built..

Ya, but is it the proper bought Big Horn.
I have a synthetic I bought at horse.com that I would NEVER buy again, the saddle is ok for Bobs use, and it fits Myst, but was bought for City, size matters.
A Big Horn, the right one, I would buy again.
I wouldnt buy a Big Horn from Horse.com. That is not knocking Horse.com, it is knocking a couple of the Big Horn saddles they sell.

Mine looks exactly like yours only it has a different pattern, I got it from eBay though. I don't think Horse.com sells the leather/synthetic ones, do they?

Aww, then you have a Big Horn!!!
Yes, horse.com does sell some synthetic/leather Big Horns, but I think of the 3, only 1 may be any good, the other 2 are not ones I would purchase.

Big Horn was bought out by American Saddlery. The Big Horn section is now called American Big Horn Saddlery.

I've been in touch with them and they are sending me a Big Horn Catalog. Plus American Saddlery is sending me a CD with all of their catalogs on it.

The one I saw at JP North didn't seem to have any synthetic parts to it, just leather. It was around $1,200, vs the $1,800 circle Y. So more towards their higher end product line I think.

I bought a big horn off another forum member a few months ago and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. It's so comfy. I had a circle Y show saddle that was really comfy too, but it was $2800 CAD and the BH I have didn't cost even close to that and is easily just as comfy.

I bought one several months back and so far I love it. I was encouraged at the feedback I got here on them, and my dad and bff always comment on liking the looks of it, lol. I've not taken more than an hour or so at the time in it yet, so I can't comment on long-ride comfort, but I don't see how it would be an issue. Here's mine:

I've heard a lot of good things about them, atho I have never seen one or ridden in one myself.

So, I have to ask, not all Big Horns saddles are created equally, so to speak? Why are some better than others and not so good? And how do you know which ones to avoid?

FYI,,,these saddles I am showing have NOTHING to do with horse.com, only the saddles themselves.
Big Horns to watch out for are
http://www.horse.com/Big-Horn-Pastel-Trail-Saddle-WKS11.html

Of these saddles, the ONLY ones I would not buy are the felt horn ones. Most Big horns are good saddles.

Ive had two and never paid over 450 for either. Lasted for yrs and sold them with horse in still new condition. I rode the heck out of that saddle yet you would of never known. I still own my other one.

Easiest way to buy a Big Horn if your not familiar with them is to ask someone who owns them if it is a decent saddle.
