BWF (PA/OH/NY/ETC) Meet Up - Check In

In almost exactly a month there will be a Baywind Farm Forum meet up.

I need to know who is coming for sure(no maybes!), and if you're bringing a horse-- if so, how many. Bringing a horse is optional.

Horses are allowed to be contained in makeshift corrals or electric fence. However, if a horse is to be tied to a tree then a "tree saver strap" is a must to ensure that the horse does not damage the tree. There are several trails that are open to horses. We would just not be allowed to ride on hiking trails or within a nonhorse campground. We are allowed to ride on forest roads, ATV, and snowmobile trails.

I don't think so.:( My parents would never let me drive that far myself, and they aren't very trusting of other people (way over protective of me), nor do they have the time to drive me there themselves.:( And I don't know how I would get Dakota there either.

At the moment I don't think everyone is going to have a horse(I would bring a spare one, but I only have a 2 horse trailer and Caitlin is riding with me), but if that is the case I'm willing to skip out on a couple trail rides and let the horseless ride Lyric. I'm not sure what other horse we're bringing.. that's up to Caitlin..

I asked my dad (instead of my mom who looked at me like I had lost my mind when I asked permission:rolleyes:) and he said that I could go and that I have a ride up there (either they'll drive me or I'll drive myself) but I have to find Dakota a ride. Which is the tricky part. :confused: I'm currently working on that though.

My parents are still kind of wary though, so they want details.:rolleyes: Where exactly are we meeting? I mean, I know in Warren at the National forest but where in Warren? There's probably a lot of national forest up there, so is there an exact meeting spot/camp ground/whatever?

I am trying to think.. I can't go all the way around to pick Dakota up, because that would probably be one huge trip.. There's no way to can get that guy to trailer him for you like what you were talking about before? Is Warren closer to you than my house(Genesee)? If my house was closer even if you could just get Dakota there we might be set..

We are going to(or near) a campground that is called Kelly Pines. We are going to Kelly Pines and probably(I am at least) tying the horses for the night unless there are straight stalls available.

Coming from interstate 80 turn north on Rt 66 to Marienville, two miles out of town you will drive by the Ranger Station, we are open 8 - 4:30 and open on weekends as well. Driving North on 66 past the Station you will cross a railroad track, start looking for the Kelly Pines sign and the Duhring Rd sign about a half mile ahead, turn right, go about 6 miles on the Duhring Rd bare right at the Allegheny trail ride sign, that is a Privately owned campground you can also camp at, they have showers and stalls for a fee. If Kelly Pines is full I have some gravel pit areas you can camp and ride out of that are in the area.

Well, I'm still brain storming on transportation for Kota. I don't think my trailer will work, but I can try it. But if we won't go in, or has a lot of issues with it, then that's out.

I *might* have a trailer I can borrow if a friend buys the one she's going to look at tomorrow. If she does buy it then I should be good to go and can haul myself up there (I'd have to borrow a truck but I *think* I can do that without too much of a problem). But if she doesn't buy the trailer.... I don't know.:( I so wish I knew someone else who had a trailer- I'd be happy to pay anybody to haul him up there for me, but unfortunately I don't know anyone around here who could haul him.:doh: I think I know where the campgrounds you're talking about are and it's not all *that* far from me.

Morgan, thanks for offering to haul him part way but I don't think that will help me because I won't have a way to get him to your house or Warren enless my neighbor buys that trailer.:( And if she does buy it, then I can get his butt up there myself.:D

Kaitlyn: I actually thought about bringing Beauty too if there is enough trailer room, but I don't how she'd do. She's not a seasoned trail horse and she might get pretty fired up. And I only have one saddle... I could always ride Kota bareback though, but I don't know if anyone would want to ride Beauty if she's acting up (and I can't ride her bareback). She might be fine. She does pretty well when I take her trail riding with Donna's horse Shadow- he has a calming effect on her.
I'd be glad to let you ride her if she'd behave (not that I don't think you could handle her, but it wouldn't be any fun for you) herself... but I don't know how she'd act.:rolleyes: I'll have to have a little chat with her about it, lol.;)

I'm actually kind of glad you said that, JackieB.:o I really do want to bring Beauty so everyone can meet her and that way no one has to be horseless... But I have this little voice in my head saying 'don't do it.' I just don't think she's ready for this kind of situation because she's not a seasoned trail horse and I don't want anyone to get hurt if she starts freaking out, or cause a stampede if she bolts on the trail ride.:o It's probably too much too soon and wouldn't really be fair to her. She's a good horse, she just needs some more miles before I take her on a big over-nighter. I guess I already kind of knew that, I just needed some one else to say it. I feel bad that Kaitlyn won't have a horse now. Sorry guys.:(

If kaitlin can get a trailer, then I MAY bring berma, but thats not official yet. I've actaully never ridden Berma on a trail, but thats because there arn't many around here. But she is a trail horse through and through. She used to go on looong trail rides. If Kaitlin does manage a trailer, and I can get a saddle together for her, I could probably bring her along.

Everyone will have to bring their own food.. Just stock up on everything. Jess is bringing a grill so I am going to bring a couple packages of hot dogs to share, probably some hamburger too. Hotdog/hamburgers and hot dog/hamburger rolls appreciated! :D

But yeah, pack some food to take on the trails and also stuff to snack on throughout the day. I'm going to load up, lmbo.

Dad and I are going to stay in the trailer, since it's a living quarters. WDW, I have a small air compressor in the truck that we could use to blow up your mattress, so you should be ok with bringing it.

We will be having a campfire, and I am not positive if we'll be allowed to bring wood or not.. I am going to anyway. This is what the guy said,

Fire wood can be cut on Forest without a permit as long as you cut it and use it for your campfire.

I am also gonig to see if my parents will bring some chicken. Random, but I love chicken... :D We will definitely stock up on food.

I wouldn't bring wood, FSA. There should be plenty of dead wood around to gather. If PA is like Michigan, moving wood for a campfire is a big deal because of a beetle that they are trying to keep from getting to new places.

I'm sure my family would think I was nuts if I told them to let her go with some people I meet on the internet... and I wasn't there too. She is a wonderful rider. Extremely talented. And I have been trying to get her to get involved with some of the local stables. But no one want any help (she says) It can be really hard braking into the horse community when you don't have a horse currently.

She also has spiked hair and facial percings. It freaks many people out.

I'll talk with my grandmother tomorrow and see if she would be willing to take her. As long as she has no appointment those days I'm sure she would. I will get back to you with a definite answer. Is there a day that would be better?

OK, I called and talked with Sabin today. She thought it sounded like a lot of fun. She said," I know about all of them, and have read several of there post, but they don't know about me." I laughed and said yes they do, just maybe not always in a good light. She laughed too. She just needs to make sure that that isn't when they are going on vacation themselves. So for now plan on her being there. Again, she will just be there one day. What day is better?? Also if someone could PM me directions I would appreciate it. I keep thinking of Allagany State Park the PA side. I know that isn't it. Also there is that dam... what is it called, in Warren, that isn't it either. So I need to be sure to send her to the right place. Maybe she can get on here and make an account and get the info herself. I have been trying to convince her to do that for years now. Any day is fine. I would like to leave Warren 2-4 on the 19th, really depending on how we're getting Caitlin home. If her mom could come pick her up in Warren(its the same distance to Warren as it is to where we're meeting up on tues, I think) then I will probably leave a bit later. Dad and I are leaving home about 2-3 am Saturday morning. I plan on being at Lizzy's between 7-8, and it's about and hour or so from her house to the campground. That way we get plenty of time to ride and have fun before we have to head home Sunday afternoon sometime.

We're bring the laptop, and dad has all the gadgets to transfer from camera to computer, so we can keep everyone updated. It's been a crazy week already with Kota's kidney infection, trying to put hay in, and dad has to reset Oreo's shoes before we go. Happens all the time- just when everything is working, life steps in-therefore we need plan B! Usually consists of finding a way around it- ask Lakota's pet about the trailer issues for Coventry, Vermont at the last Phish concert! We went through three trailers and ended using the fourth one, I manufactured an extended hitch to use with an eight foot camper on a 6 ft pickup!

He's definately not gaited, but that was my first thought too when we went to look at him. He's even stranger in person. If he turns his head just right he looks like a cow, and he has almost zebra stripes on one side. The funny thing is we bought him to fix him and find him a good home, but he turned out to be a good extra horse for us since he does his job so darn well. I just don't particularly like him much. We never really clicked, but he does what he's asked, so I can't complain. He was my horse while Rocky was sick and before I got Kota.

Rain doesn't have to slow us down. The trailer has an awning that we can set the tables up under and eat, so we're good there. Just make sure you bring rain gear, cause a little rain doesn't stop me from hitting the saddle.

I'm bringing 2 tables, but only have 2 chairs with us. There's a smaller one that came with the trailer, and we're bringing the 8 foot folding table too. We try to prepare for everything, but then again with as many times as we've gone camping with the horses over the last 20 years, I think we've run into every problem you can encounter. All that's left is feed, my clothes, and throw the coolers in the trailer. Dad is awesome.

Don't forget that there's water there too, and if it's safe enough to water the horses with, I wouldn't be afraid to wash with it. So maybe bring an extra jug with you to keep water in by the tents.

Well I have half of my stuff packed. I decided to listen to you guys and just started throwing in my old beat-up farm/riding/camping clothes, lol. I'm bringing three pairs of jeans (if it rains I figured I might need an extra pair), flannel shirts and hoodies, jammie pants (Morgan, if I end up staying in your tent you have to promise not to laugh at my jammies:nono:), a rain coat if I can find one (sigh:doh:), and maybe a few t-shirts, although it looks like it will be too cold for them.:rolleyes:

Hi everyone...just letting you know everyone made it safe and sound...we (me and Dan) left them at around noon. Hoping the weather holds out for them....was cold and raining. All are excited though...they should have fun no matter what the weather. What a cool place to "horse camp"...lots of horses and riders there at other camp sites. Most them were 60+ in age. We're going back to get Morgan and the boys tomorrow around 2.

Bummer, Sabin showed up but everyone must have been riding. I'm not sure how long she stuck around. She siad there was no phone service out there. I tried calling everyone to see if I could connect to no avail. I guess they had a nice ride though.Maybe next time.

Heyyy, I guess I'm the first one back. We had a blast riding. And shiver, we felt soooo bad that we missed your daughter. We did not expect to be gone that long (we were going down a trail that we thought led somewhere for 3 hours, then once we realized there was no way out, we had to turn around and go back, which took another 3 hours.)
I loved meeting everyone, and the horses, it was a lot of fun. I have pictures, but they are not uploaded yet. :)

Just got home. Every fiber in my body hurts and aches and it was a jerkkkk to get home since I hit Cleveland, the east side was under construction. But I'm home safe and in one piece even if I don't feel like I am. SO TIRED. Might upload later.

Yes, very disappointed I didnt get to meet Sabin, we were hoping she'd stop by again and was just gone looking for us. A lady came up to us and asked if we were expecting a girl.. Yes we were. She said she was just by looking for us a hour or so ago. That first trail ride was LONG, a lot longer than I expected.

I have pics too.. Will post soon! I am all pruney from standing in wet shoes the whole time. But.. I am clean and just got back from a nice shower. :)

The whole trip went well until the end when Dan tried to unload the horses.. His friend(Bear's prev. owners) told him how he unloaded Bear so he made Tyke unload that way and then started doing it with Lyric even though I said a million times NO, I'm doing it the normal way and Lyric started freaking in the trailer. UGH.

nope, it only rained for like 15 minutes.. Enough to get all of us ladies hairdos wet and ruined and then it was decent.. Cold out saturday, in the 70's sunday. I wore a hat all day both days.

I guess I'm the last one to say that I made it home safe (except for Jess and Pete but they still have a longggg drive ahead of them)! I kind of ran into some problems/biggg trouble when I got home... very long story. Terrible ending for the day. My head feels like it's about to explode but I got a shower and just took some tylenol so hopefully things will start looking up.


I did have a really good time though. You guys are awesome!:D I had a lot of fun, and I felt like I already knew you even though that was the first time we met face to face, lol.

The first trail ride was definately interesting... a lot longer than expected though. Shiver, we all felt so bad about missing your daughter!:( We were totally (Morgan, I said it again.:p;)) not planning on being gone that long but like the others said, we got really far out and came to a dead end and had to turn around and ride all the way back.

We had a good ride today too. Pete, Jess, and Torie went back to camp earlier than Morgan, Kaitlyn, and I did because Oreo's (one of Jess's horses, the one Torie was riding) hooves were kind of sore. So the three of us kept going and explored a few random trails. We waded through this bigggg creak, it was pretty cool. I got a few pics of Morgan and Kaitlyn in the water (and others too), I'll post them a little later.:)

The camp site was really awesome, I loved the tie stalls we had. The set up was really nice. I wish it hadn't rained the first day because I know my hair was a mess from then on out and I never got completely dry after that either. But we still had a lot of fun, and the weather was nice today.

Morgan and Torie both got to ride Dakota. :) I rode Lyric for a little bit. He was really nice. Tyke and Lyric are both sweethearts, and so is Oreo.:) He shared Dakota's hay a lot, lol.
