I was thinking about a new horse, since Dolly can only be used for light riding. Well my friend just got a Reg paint horse, mare, 12yrs old and was used for trails. Needs a little groceries. They said she was barn sour. My friend rode it and said it rides nice. Her plans for the horse was to buy it and resell it. The only thing wrong with it is that it weaves in the stall and paces if it cant see another horse. I dont have stalls.I think she bought it for 500.00 to 600.00. I asked her what she wants for it and she said some hay. Well that tells me nothing. Not sure what to think. I have my Rashad and Dolly does need some exercise. I will have to see.
Anyone know anything about weaving?

we had a mule that weaved in his stall at college. Pretty much he was only kept stalled on the days he was getting used and the rest of the time he was out on pasture and he was fine.

Sounds like the horse is more buddy sour than anything if it prances when its out of sight of another horse. If it were me I would pass as it seems she's more of a project horse than a nice trail horse.

We had a horse at the barn where I use to board Oscar that weaved. Her owner always wanted her in a stall and the poor horse was bored out of its' mind! The few times I saw the horse in a paddock she seemed to really enjoy her out time and be more relaxed. Sounds like this horse is nervous about being in a stall and could be better off with 24/7 turnout.

I dont have any stalls so it would be 24hr turnout and there would always be a horse at home. I would like to take it out on a trail and see how it goes.

This could be one reason why this horse will always need groceries. Sounds like a bad case of Buddy sour and nervous habit. She might not be alone trail horse, but a horse that is a good trail horse with a lead/buddy horse to follow.
I can't really tell you if you should purchase this horse but with all the horses out there, I would look for something better suited for your needs/wants.

I know what you are saying gaited and I really dont need another one right now. I could take it trail riding on wed to see how she does. Ok, keep talking me out of it. My pasture will not be done till next year.
Gaited glad you are back and I had a blast. PM me your email and when I figure out how to upload my pic, I will send you some.

The horses I knew that weaved were the ones that were kept in their stalls too long.....the poor horses were bored out of their minds. When they were out they were just fine.

FW, I just spoke with someone that went to a local sale near you and the prices were ridiculously low. Lots of "no sales" too! There are so many horse out there now I don't think there is any reason to settle for less than you want. I'd keep looking for the right match as long as you aren't in a hurry to buy anyway.

If you want a project to work with until Rahshad is retired from riding I can help you out there. :) Good luck!

Gaited did you want me to take that horse off your hands? :). Then I can see if that is really what I want. Truthfully I am good with horses right now. But thanks Ranger for your offer also. Do you have any of those horses broke yet? LOL
Ranger were you at the last sale. I missed it and I am going to miss the next one also. That sucks.
I think I should just stay where I am at with horses. But they are so addicting.

Ok I know this guy who has a nice arab mare that he wants me to take for the summer and ride. He said she is a nice mare and was used for lessons. He said his family is too big to ride her. The guy just does not want her to sit around all summer and do nothing. The only thing is when you grain her you have to seperate her or she will kick out at the other horses. But she is fine when they all eat hay. Maybe I will take her for a trail ride.

Well I have seen a number of horses weave and its pretty pathetic. I always feel sorry for the horse. One of the horses weaved in the stall AND the pasture, she would stand in front of the pasture gate and weave, she was like a mechanical bird blowing in the wind, she had 4 - 5 different patterns that she weaved.

The other horse they told me she only weaved when she was in heat?

I would pass myself, since I hate watching it.

Well I am going to go and try this horse out. My friend is willing to give her to me. Since I always have horses here and no stalls it might work. Then I might take her trail riding. So I might be having a horse after all. Wish me luck.

Ok I tried this horse out. It went really nice only a few issues.
1. It would not stand still so I could get on.
2. It was lazy and was hard to get into a lope (which could be a good thing)
3. very ouchy on the gravel.
Other than that I saw it load, saw what happens when it is by itself. ( just paces). I am going to go and try it out on the trail on Wed to see I really want it.
Either way my friend is ok with me not taking it.
I will get pic of her when I take her out on wed. (if it dont rain)

Good luck on your trail ride, I hope it goes well! Is the horse barefoot? If so, maybe she needs shoes if the gravel is making her ouchy, or boot her if you're going to be on rocky terrain.(although I'm sure none of your terrain is as rocky as ours;))
