OK... no pictures yet, because I am on my kids computer and I can't find my camera...you'll see why below.
On Wednesday, my friend and I start heading out with trailers and horses loaded at 9:00am. We get about 20 miles away coming down a long hill and I notice my brakes smoking. So we turn around and get the truck to a shop... with the horses still in the trailers. While making a large U-turn, I hear a big BANG!! The back window of my truck blew out from the water barrel pressing on it, when I made the u-turn. Glass went everywhere! Poor Chy got the most of it. We get to the shop they checked the brakes and said they were fine and I should try down shifting on the downhills. They said everything should be fine. I asked for a shop vac for the glass that was all over my truck and they didn't have one. ugh!!! So they used an air hose to blow most of the glass out. Now remember... I have both kids and one of my dogs in the truck and 3 horses in the trailer. Hubby stayed home.
So at noon we are heading out again. Start going into the mountains and my truck is going 30mph up the hills. We come to a big downhill and I try downshifting and NOTHING happens!! My rig is like a runaway frieght train. I used the truck AND trailer brakes and by the time we got to the bottom, ALL brakes were smoking!! Thank God that was the only downhill on the trip UP!
We finally get to camp at 4PM. This should have only taken us 2.5 hours to get up there.
We set up camp, and head down to the cook trailer for dinner. Had a few laughs then went back to our own camp. The next day we saddle up all the horses. I decide to ride my horses one at a time to see how they do so the kids don't get hurt. Dallas was alittle nervous but he did OK. I went back got Joe and that's when everything went wrong.
My first mistake was taking him out alone. We get down the road and he was acting HOT. So I turned him around and was trying to walk him back to camp, when all of a sudden he reared STRAIGHT up. I stayed on, but then Dallas called to Joe and that was it. Joe started bucking like a rodeo horse, I came off and he stepped on me when I landed. Then he took off in a blur. My only thought was I hope he goes back to camp, then I passed out from the pain. I woke up, saw a ton a big black ants, so tried rolling out of them, but they were everywhere! I was trying to roll around and get up but everytime I did I would get light headed. I didn't know stars where out in the afternoon. The pain was coming from my leg.
I was finally able to get to the road where I was hoping someone would find me. The kids came running up the road, I was sitting on a log with my head between my legs. They helped me back to camp....I think... it was pretty much a blur. I get back into the trailer and pulled my pants down to see the damage, and there is a huge bruise on my thigh and pelvic area. :( I passed out again!!!! Then came to, my friend came back from her ride and immediately got ice on my bruise. That pain started going away, then I had a new pain in my back and it hurt whenever I tried to breath. So now I know I fractured a couple of ribs!
I took some pain pills and took it easy for awhile. I did not go to a hospital as I know there is nothing they can do for broken ribs. So we toughed out the next two days, I called another friend to come up and haul my horses and trailer back down out of the mountians as I knew my truck couldn't do it. I drove my truck back, got the horses unloaded, went home took a shower then....... we had to get the kids to their gymkhana. I'll make another post on that......
I was going to go to urgent care today to get some exrays, but they are closed. So have to wait for tomorrow. (Mon) I'm not going to the hospital, because that will cost $1000 verses $60 for urgent care. I already know my ribs are fractured, but I just want to know how many and if I did anything to my pelvic bone.
So that was my trip! Hubby has been helping me and we still need to unload the darn trailer. Chy is worried that I am going to give Joe back, but it wasn't all his fault. He is not a seasoned trail horse, he is an arena horse and I should not have taken him out alone, even though I was close to camp.
Oh and he did run straight back to camp, the kids caught him and tied him back up before they came looking for me.
