So, today I felt fine..... at the new job this morning they offered free flu shots, my new boss checked to see if I could get one if I wanted one, and I could....so we all went down to the RN this morning to get our flu shots at work. So, about 2 hours ago, as I was driving home....I got real sick feeling, it came on very suddenly.....nausea, headache, stomach ache, low-grade fever (I took my temp after I got home).... I know they say you can't get sick from the flu shot....but, this sure is a weird coincidence...and I've never felt so ill quite this quickly....anyone have any weird experiences from the flu shot?? Well, dang.... in fact, I gotta get off the computer for a bit right now, I'm not feeling very well..... :(

I've never had a flu shot but my mother's friend had one the other day and is experiencing the same exact things you are, it happened not long after she got the shot so she thinks they are related, of course the Dr says no but if I had to guess I'd say it was the shot.

Hope you will be feeling better real soon.

Maybe a weird side effect? I dunno. The Garadsil shot makes me faint, lovely, eh?

I don't get shots....havn't been vaccinated since I was 5. They are a major phobia of mine so I admire that it was such an easy decision for you! I don't think it's super uncommon to feel a little under the weather on the first day, your immune system might just be responding to the vaccine. I hope you feel better!!

I wish now I hadn't gotten the dang shot. :( The stomach ache had me doubled over after I got home.....I am just sipping on a Coke now, hoping it goes away...... I am thinking it is the shot, I've never had something come on this fast before, especially with a fever...... Of course I just started his job a few weeks ago too..... Lovely.

I have to get mine for school and it always makes me feel a little warm/groggy/tired, much like I think shots must make babies feel. But I've never gotten that sick! Sounds to me like it could be coincidence, though, and maybe the regular blahs from the vax aren't helping any.. but that's just my knee-jerk reaction.

Regardless, I hope you are feeling much better soon! Yuck!

My dad got a flu shot last year and got the flu two days later. No one in my family has ever had the flu except for that incident *knock on wood*.

Ive gotten sick from the flu shot. I should say, symptoms of the flu. Heck its the virus, dead virus, why cant ya get sick feeling from it.
I sure hope you feel better tomorrow((HUGS))

Ya, killed, what Carla said, what I ment, but you know me, always tripping over the right words.

Actually, it's a killed virus, so it 'tricks' your system into fighting it, without you actually getting sick.. unless you get a weakened/live vax- which is actually the nasal spray I think.. (don't quote me, though)

Of course, not sure what you got and when, Vick. I'm just a runnin' my mouth. :)

Yeah the flu shot usually made me get a bit queesy and sickly feeling! Luckly it usually passed after a good night's sleep.

Last year was the first time I didn't get a flu shot, and I sill got sick! Apparently flu shot or not, I'm still getting the crud! So I've just decided not to get them anymore, or at least while I'm working nights and am never around the germy coworkers!

Honestly, I wouldn't get it either if I didn't "have" to. (it's not required, but I figure being around so many sick folk I'd better be on the safe-r side) I'm not a big "vax-or-bust" kind of girl, either.

There is an ENT doctor on another forum I'm on... she's pretty holistic in her thinking but here's what she said when asked about the flu shot. "No - I don't get one. They are a lot like some vaccines we give our horses - they keep the host from getting the symptoms of the illness but NOT from carrying it around and giving it to others. Because I am in the health field and in close contact with my patients, I'd prefer to get sick and then KNOW I've got something so I can stay home and nurse it rather than spreading it around to everyone else."

Sure hope you're feeling better, Renee! (Morning sickness, too funny!)

I never get a flu shot. Caveman usually does and my mom always did, but fortunately they never got sick from it.

Well, I popped on here real quick just to take my mind off of everything for a little bit....and I can finally sit upright for a while (been curled up in a ball).....I think it is perhaps the stomach flu (morning sickness....too funny....but that would be impossible, haha...).....I've been throwing up half the night, and...um....other things (think Montezuma's Revenge and you're close.....:().....just sicker than a dog....so perhaps it is a coincidence....I dunno....but I haven't been quite so ill in years and I am not one who throws up all the time so this is real unusual for me.... Still wish I hadn't gotten the shot tho.... OK, I am heading back to bed.....

What you have is going around. I had it a few weeks ago, my stomach pains were so bad I almost called my friend and asked what her son's symptoms were when he had to have his appendix out but I didn't have the strength to get to the phone. It was awful and I was scared. Thankfully it passed within 24 hrs. Gingerale helped me alot. I'm not supposed to have it because of the sugar in it but at that point I didn't care, nothing else helped me. It turned out alot of people in the area had what I had and also Bronchitis. Lots and lots of people with that. It seems like this stuff is coming early this yr.

It is weird though that it came right after the shot. It could be shot related or you picked up some kind of germ when you went for the shot. When ever I walk into the Dr's office I get sick within 2 days. I had an appointment for prescriptions and in 2 days I had that stomach thing. What ever I really hope that today will be a better day for you.

Never been sick like what your saying, guess it is something else.
You should call your Dr. ask them what to do.

Yes I've experienced a similar thing. I don't get the shots but I get the flu mist and this last time I got a bit of a cold a couple of days after. You should be fine in a day or so.

My first and FINAL flu shot was in 94 (?) I thought that I was going to freakin die! Never in my life have I ever been so sick after this shot. I missed about 7 days of work.
I have not had a flu shot since and have NOT been as sick as that. So my vote for me is NO FLU SHOT Please;)

Hope you feel better SOON;)

Thanks everyone. What a rough night that was. I feel a teensy weensy bit better this morning, needless to say I didn't make it to work. Never have I gotten such bad stomach pains or threw up so much....

I emailed a friend of mine who is an RN, she said bronchitis and the stomach flu are really making the rounds right now, a friend of hers just had it Tuesday. Sooooo....I am going to go back to bed, hunker down, sip on a Coke and take it easy. But, I am very sure I will never get another flu shot again....chances are the shot may have had nothing to do with this, but I don't know, and I won't be getting any more shots from now on.....you just never know. And I woke up this morning and noticed that I have a red streak right underneath my eye along my lower lid in, sort of along my eye lashes....maybe I burst a blood vessel while I was being sick...anyway, so now I really look awful, with that bright red streak underneath my eye lashes..... :(

Yikes. I am not getting the flu shot this year and I don't think the kids are either. They aren't in daycare and last year they both got it and they BOTH got sick. so no thanks.

Hope you are feeling better!

Well, I am thinking now it must be the stomach flu (gastroenteritis)....after talking (er, well, emailing) a couple friends of mine.....they've got friends sick with the same thing that I have, and another friend has a fever and is sick too.....ish.... I don't want to scare anyone from having a flu shot, they can be helpful....but, I am leery now...I think what maybe happened with me is I was already coming down with this flu (I'd had a bad headache for a couple days and felt tired) and they say you shouldn't get the flu shot if you are sick...well, I didn't know I was sick, got the flu shot, and Whammo......

Vaccines are hard on the immune system... that's how they work. You probably were already tossing around the bug and trying to fight it off - then the flu shot overwhelmed your immune system and BAM... poor thing got the icky stomach flu.

Hope you're feeling better soon!

I've had several flu shots over the years without any neg. reaction but several friends have would up sick afterwards. Coincidence? Don't know.

There's a nasty GI bug going around here in my area; it's been hitting the jail where Deputyhound works, and it's already made the rounds of my hospital. Sounds like it's in other parts of the country...

It took me about 3 days to shake the GI symptoms.

if i am not mistaken the flu shot that you receive treats influenza- which is a respiratory disease that usually requires hospitalization, what most people consider the flu is just your bodies natural defenses in killing a germ-throwing up to get the bug out, coughing up liquid does the same, and the fever symptom is to make unsurvivable conditions for the germ.

also you could have an allergy to something in the shot.
i have severe allergies(anaphylaxis) to eggs, peanuts, and nuts. This has prevented me from getting many vaccinations that are grown in eggs-traditional flu shot, chicken pox vaccine, and others. When i was a baby and had to get these vaccines they had to give me a very small dose with a dose of benadryl to prevent me from swelling and dieing, my mom said it took all day. Now i just don't get vaccinated with these.

I have had one flu shot in my life with a negative reaction - could it have been coincidence I suppose, but when they offer them at work I run the other way ;) I even had a boss get mad at my once saying that I had better not call in sick that winter, but I didn't care.... Hope you get to feeling better real soon...
