How do I know what kind of blanket to get Chrissy? I want it for winter and up here in Ontario, it can get pretty cold, but not too bad. I was looking at weatherbeetas and the one that I like says that its a medium : http://www.weatherbeeta.com/USA/range/landa-fs/fs-standardneckmedium.asp
I also was looking at this one (Xander) : http://www.pleasantridge.ca/winter_blankets.htm
Do you think either of these would be apropriate for Chrissy?

I like Weatherbeetas, but that particular one is not the most durable blanket they make. It's a 600 denier outer, whereas their better ones are 1200. This is the amount of ripstop durability the blanket will have... and affect how many years it will hold up. My Weatherbeeta Oricans have lasted 5 years or more.
The other one, Xander, is not a brand I'm familiar with, but on it's specs, it's a better blanket. A little more fill, and 1200 denier outer.

Yup, what WB said.
You want a 1200 outer, or as close to it as possible. I look for at least a 250g fill to keep them warm. Also make sure it is water proof and not just a stable blanket, nothing worse than a soaked blanket on a horse.

The medium weight is OK. The weather where you live is virtually identical to where I live in Western Michigan. I have a medium weight Weatherbeeta Taka for Buster, and he's snug as a bug inside that thing when I put it on him.

I have a question....Has anyone every tried a 3 in 1 blanket system? I'm looking at this one. http://www.doversaddlery.com/product.asp?pn=X1-24715&idu=1A29543TGWG1&ids=957638963 It's outer denier is 1680. What do you think?

Painted, I love the idea and would definitely buy that when we're buying blankets next time.
I double ours up when it's especially cold, with their spare blanket which is also a turnout blanket. So I'm sure this would fit neater and be a lot tidier than that.

I haven't tried it either - I just do the double up thing as well if I have to.
I did buy and "heavyweight" blanket just so I didn't have to double up - just to many straps :)

Weatherbeeta is a good company; blankets are durable and fit a range of body types pretty well. I think the best blankets I've ever had are the Maxims that I have now, I bought them 5 yrs ago and they've been fabulous. I have a 76" for my appendix and an 84" for my draft cross. They fit both terrific, very well made with great hardware and stitching and I'll bet I get another 5 yrs out of them. And both horses are always bone dry under them even when it's pouring rain. Are you from the 'cold' part of Ontario or the 'freezing' part?

Thanks for all the input everyone.
lovnforkfull- I'm from the 'cold' part of Ontario, just an hour away from the michigan border.
